Michelle Deng was born in China a n d s h e l o v e f o r i n te r i o r d e s i g n stems from her childhood when she traveled to various regions acros s the world; There’s no real need for a semi-colon there. I’d use a period, instead. while touring the globe, she was inspired by the variety of designs she saw. Apart from her art degree, Michelle is quite proficient with various design softwares such as Photoshop, 3D Max, Revit, Auto CAD and In design. Also, she has prof icienc y in a number o f l a n g u a g e s i n c l u d i n g E n g l i s h, C h i n e s e (C a n to n e s e, M a n d a r i n) and Nor wegian, which helps her to relate to her clients. Her style as an interior designer are influenced by her expansive travels in Europe and Asia where she got exposure to traditional and contemporar y designs. She combines those styles with her American influence to create a product that only she can produce. Due to her globally-influenced style, Michelle is commonly referred to as an international interior designer. For her, the sky is the limit and there are no boundaries in her profession.

This portfolio holds a collection of some of my academic works in interior design, architecture and art. Each project had it own means of presentation, but for convenient, they're all presented in this book in a similar layout, while keeping the original presentation spirit.

The Mariotto Residence is a remodeling of a threestory house located in San Francisco that is designed to accommodate three members of the family. Given that the three members have different personalities, the house will have to consider their personal styles.

The designing of the house must consider the need for meditation as the family members engage in the practice as a way of relaxing the mind. In the East, meditation is highly valued and is not only a way of thinking in the right sense of mind, but also a method of fixing the mind by allowing a person to use their inner silence to discover the inner consciousness. In this regard, the designing of the spaces in the house must provide the occupants with enough space to conduct meditation whenever possible. and the peace of mind is paramount.

The living area provides a great view of the outside world and a sense of both comfort and deep upholster y marked in blue suede that matches the blue stained wood laminate that is used to make the floor of the living area. Also, the fireplace is designed strategically opposite the sitting area and the walls are f inished off in a waxed walnut design. At the base of the fireplace are rectangular sheets of antique that compliment the brass finishing on the sides and

The master bedroom is designed to provide open space for meditation, T H E M A R I O T T O R E S I D E N C E I LOWER UNIT

which has blue and brown patches that are mixed with brown and black striped laminate floors. More view is available in the bedroom by a wall length and height windows that face the open view of nature and the distant landscape. The floor is plainly brass color that blends well with the plant theme and the deep upholstery of deep blue color and the fine finishing of the hard surfaces and suede furniture. The little furniture is suede-covered to match the upholstery in the master bedroom and the living room. 20

The designing of the house provides the necessary space for meditation. First, the type of color chosen for the upholstery is deep blue that is much associated with meditation by providing a sense of connection to the natural set ting of the sky and the distant horizons. Secondly, there is as much space as is needed for meditation by minimizing the number of furniture in the room to provide enough space and peace of mind needed. Also, the floor and wall design does not create chaos in the mind of the person meditating as they are closely related to nature by the way they depict the image of plants.

The eagle ray is very distinctive with a flattened body and triangular corners to the wing like pectoral fins. With a maximum wing span of six feet from tip to tip, a long whip like tail. Its pure white underside is etched with a mazelike pattern that flashes enticingly as it glides through the water and sometimes soars into the air its wing motions mimicking an eagle’s.

The location convenience to quality public transportation as well as locating within walk able distance to many types of commercial spaces make it an ideal candidate for LEED senior living center. With access to a plethora of southern sun exposure as well as existing southeastern wind conditions, the site can utilize these natural resource to maximize energy efficiency.

TEXTILE DESIGN Design by Michelle W. Deng

Design Inspiration The inspiration is from the water-lily, flower and leaf, so drawn as to produce the effect of a shadow in color, a shadow stirred by the wind, giving a sense of life and motion, with gradations of color instead of light and shade.
