LOOK TO MONTGOMERY’S FOR INDIVIDUALIZED DESIGN

If redecorating or renovating your home is your goal in 2025, Montgomery’s is the complete furnishing and design center where you can transform your home. Their exceptional products and customer service can streamline and simplify any home project.

Montgomery’s is a family-owned business that provides personalized design services and quality products for 137 years. Montgomery’s stores are located in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Watertown and Madison.

Montgomery’s goal is to save customers time and reduce stress in any home or commercial design project.

“We have all the tools needed to help a new homeowner or a remodel project,” said Paula Kruetzfeldt, an interior designer at Montgomery’s. “Everything we need to help clients with their lighting, wall coverings, paint colors, window treatments, furniture is right here.”

Paula brings 25 years of experience as an interior designer, including six years at Montgomery’s, to every design project. She describes her job as interior project management — whether she’s helping a client select a couch, redecorate a room, or she’s consulting with builders and contractors on new construction from framing to finish.

Each project begins by asking customers about their wants, needs, lifestyle, and their design ideas. Montgomery’s staff will make recommendations based on budget and preferences to ensure their customers have the furniture, lighting, flooring or window treatments they want, plus design support.

“What Montgomery’s does best is making every customer feel special and listening to what they need,” Paula adds. “It is not a cookie-cutter design. It is individualized design per client.”

“Everything is right here. We simplify the process as to not overwhelm the customer,” Paula explains.

Complimentary “house call” design consultations are part of the process.

“We want customers to have the full experience,” Paula states. “If clients come in needing a certain piece (of furniture or decor) or they’re saying ‘I want to remodel my house,’ or ‘I want to change something in my living room,’ we offer complimentary design services to help people make good, cost-effective decisions.”

Every staff member is knowledgeable about the products Montgomery’s carries. Weekly trainings educate the staff about furnishings, décor and products in each store.

“We have specialists in each department: flooring, lighting, window treatments, and mattresses. Our staff is trained on something every week — a brand of flooring, or technology in lighting, or new furniture pieces that recently hit the floor,” Paula shares.

Montgomery’s staff also travels to furniture and home décor markets around the United States twice each year to learn about new products and the latest design trends.

“We have long-standing relationships with manufacturers. They tell us what’s on trend in the Midwest,” Paula adds. “We carry brands that are tried and true, and have been around forever.”

Montgomery’s began in 1888 as a furniture store and still prides itself on selling a wide variety of quality, well-priced furnishings for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, home offices and outdoor living spaces.

“We have design styles for every taste and price points that fit any budget,” states Paula. “We can help home owners maximize their space

while also creating an inviting environment you can thrive in and enjoy.”

“We’re constantly changing products to accommodate our customers,” adds Paula. “We’re always willing to get what customers need or want.”

Customers who purchase beds from Montgomery’s can find excellent mattresses there, as well, from major name brands and private labels.

“Our mattress department has specialists who are probably the most knowledgeable in the industry to help customers select the right mattress. They can tell you exactly what you need. We have a sleep technology support report equipped with pressure mapping to your perfect comfort level and mattress for you. It’s all about knowing the products we are selling,” Paula explains.

When searching for home décor and accessories, customers are guaranteed to find new items every time they walk into a Montgomery’s store, Paula adds.

“We have so much décor. I can look at a piece of art and the next day, it’s gone,” Paula shares. “I tell customers if you really think you want something, you better take it today.

We’re constantly buying products for home décor. We have modern, traditional, transitional artwork, vases, plants, florals, and sculptures. Every kind of décor you can imagine, we have something that will work.”

Each of Montgomery’s four store locations has flooring and lighting divisions that sell products at price points to fit any customer’s budget.

Montgomery’s lighting divisions display chandeliers and fixtures in roomscapes to help customers better visualize how the lighting might look in their own home or office.

“Instead of trying to (make a choice) between 400 lights displayed so high you can’t see it, we have the ability to showcase our products in more of a customer-friendly aspect,” Paula says.

Montgomery’s flooring divisions provide samples of wood flooring, carpet, tile and more that customers can borrow so they can see firsthand how the flooring will look in their homes. Design consultants will accompany customers, if desired, to make recommendations about flooring.

Window treatments complete any room and Montgomery’s has an exceptional selection to choose from. We are an official Hunter Douglas vendor with a full gallery of home and commercial shades at varying price points. One of the most unique services offered is a team of three full-time seamstresses who create custom window treatments and more.

“Our designers will design a bedding ensemble or drapery treatment and our seamstresses will make it into these beautiful works of art, and our team will do the installation,” Paula said. “If we can design it, the seamstresses can sew it. It’s amazing.”

Montgomery’s genuinely enjoys helping customers achieve the stylish homes or businesses they imagine.

“We know what works, and helping clients figure that out is fun. We want clients’ rooms to look beautiful just like they do,” Paula notes.

“We

RAISING THE BAR ON LUXURY

Durable, maintenance free, and resistant to stains and scratches. Experience the luxury of Cambria quartz surfaces at Creative Surfaces. Scan the QR code to find your style.

A spectacular 8,200 square foot combination of single-family, two-story living and workspace is nestled on four rural acres near Harrisburg with beautiful views. This unique barndominium is a brandnew version of a luxury lifestyle with 5,000 square feet of living space and a 3,200 square-foot shop/ hobby and entertainment space plus an oversized two-car garage all under one roof. With their wideopen interiors, soaring ceilings, and modern design features, barndominiums make beautiful family residences that Dobesh Construction can customize to suit your lifestyle and budget.

From first approach to this barndominium home you can tell it is something special, with its vertical deep, grey siding and tall columns of variegated stacked stone, highlighted by natural stained wood, dramatic angled roof lines, and pops of warm rust tones on the garage and front entry door. The exterior beams are sourced from the Black Hills, and the walls of oversized, black-framed custom windows draw you inside to see what interesting spaces lie within.

Entering the custom, eight-foot high Therma Tru walnut fiberglass front door with an Emtek pull handle by Builders Millwork, you feel welcomed into a

large, bright open concept space with 20’ tall ceilings and great flexibility for furniture placement and lifestyle choices. The door is a perfect match to the Pro Garage Door garage doors. Stunning oversized windows welcome in breathtaking South Dakota sunrises and sunsets. From the entry you can see the smart black and white kitchen, the great room space anchored with a floor to ceiling fireplace, and the open staircase to the second floor with a powder coated black steel railing and a thin wire system that contrasts the solid ash floating stairs.

Although barndominiums are often thought to be overly industrial or cold, Dobesh and the homeowners worked collaboratively with interior designer, Carly Ellsworth, to ensure design details enhanced the warmth and hominess of this large and open home.

The selection of natural wood plank floors by Thornton’s Flooring adds visual warmth and flow and a cozy feel in the winter months. Open areas are accented with placement of a dramatic, sculptural light fixture over the floating staircase and circular bands of light over the dining table and kitchen island with a large, black metal ceiling fan centered in the space.

“My client understood the importance of energy efficiency, especially living in the country,” says Bryan Dobesh, owner and builder of Dobesh Construction. “With epoxy floor throughout the garage, radiant in-floor heat throughout the house and shop, geothermal forced-air systems, and EPS R33 (the standard in Sioux Falls is R19) SIP insulated wall panel systems, their family will keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It’s an over-the-top residential build, with structural engineering behind them.”

Dobesh Construction utilizes EPS SIP panels for any type of build, not just barndominiums including both commercial and residential construction for superior energy efficiency.

The kitchen is striking with modern black cabinets contrasted by white marble, solid surface countertops, a full height back splash with floating wood shelves, and contemporary black stainless appliances. The stunning, eleven-foot center island seats five and has waterfall edge details and a black composite sink, punctuated with a gold-toned industrial faucet. There is plenty of cabinet storage space plus an adjacent, large walk-in pantry with two conveniently located doors for easy access from the kitchen or mudroom area.

The views from the kitchen through the large windows are spectacular! You can feel the warmth of the fireplace while preparing for a family dinner or to entertain. Bella Faux Finishes accented the floor-to-ceiling fireplace with a Venetian plaster surface in undulating tones of grey adding texture and elegance to achieve the perfect movement and effect the clients desired for their fireplace.

At the top of the stairs, there is a truly special additional feature of an entertainment loft with a full bar and an adjacent, cozy home theater space, carpeted for warmth and to soak up the sound, outfitted with theater seating and plenty of room for play and study areas for the kids.

The heated wood flooring continues, and the cabinets and countertops are cohesive with the kitchen. A door leads to the huge open garage area into a loft-style game and gathering room that features a pool table, plenty of room for gaming consoles, and space for every imaginable family recreational activity. From there you can go down the stairs into the main garage area with ample built-in storage and room for recreational and motor vehicles of every kind. The high end, energy-efficient wall and ceiling surfaces have the additional benefit of stylish, silver sheet metal walls and a contrasting black ceiling.

The home features five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The sprawling, light-filled

primary suite is also framed by tall windows and a slider to a private covered patio area. The natural wood tones of the floor flow into the large-scale porcelain flooring in the primary bathroom, in undulating tones of black and browns that continue up the walls to the ceiling. As an accent wall in the shower, there is a floor to ceiling contrasting section of textured porcelain tile in light wood tones. Clear glass panels frame the spa-type water room with an easy access, zero entry spa-like water suite, with its freestanding tub and two wall-mounted shower systems in elegant black metal, providing a truly luxurious shower experience. The black cabinetry and quartz countertops continue, matching the kitchen. The vanity is designed with maximum storage, a seated area, and an additional wall of enclosed storage space. The sinks are punctuated by black plumbing fixtures, two LED lighted mirrors with touch sensors, and striking pendants hanging from the high ceilings.

The shared bathrooms in the secondary bedrooms are perfect for kids and guests with their grey quartz countertops and double sinks with black faucets. The vertical wall mirrors are lit from behind creating a lovely floating effect.

At the entry from the garage area into the main living spaces is a mudroom with seating and storage, and the laundry room is off this hall and is equipped with a tall washer and dryer set in black and framed with ample cabinetry in a fun teal color.

Bryan Dobesh is an award-winning full service custom home builder with a background in building design and construction management for 30 years. The three simple steps Bryan goes by are Design, Build, Live. “I understand every client is unique, which is why I offer a personalized approach to our services,” Bryan says. “We custom design plans to create a beautiful home that is functional, energy efficient, and checks all the client’s needs.”

Spacious, Modern, and Cozy

At first glance to this single family, two-story home in the new Aspen Ridge Development in Brandon, you know you are approaching a special home. This modern dwelling at 920 S. Country Club Avenue rests in a cul-de-sac with a city park in the background and is expertly crafted by the team at Trademark Homes.

The architectural shapes and dramatic rooflines are enhanced by the contrasts of black horizontal and white vertical cladding. A natural wood balcony on the front with modern iron railing, and coordinating patio shade cover, adds balance and charm. Around the back of this 3,837-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 3.5-bath home, a wide driveway leads to an oversized three-car garage with plenty of room for storage and unique, contemporary doors with windows to bring in natural light.

A central walkway with a far-reaching lawn and designated flower beds leads to the front entry. The black, glass and wood door brings you into this stunning open and airy two-story great room with stairs to the upper level, wrapping around the two-story tall central fireplace, with a beautiful, stacked stone surface in muted cream tones. The living room area has a wall-mounted TV over the fireplace, huge atriumstyle windows with beautiful views of the park, and an interior balcony with stairs leading to the bedrooms.

Throughout the main living spaces, the flooring is a light wood with elegant markings and the walls echo a complementary light creamy/grey tone, enhanced with white base moldings and trims.

The beautiful, custom kitchen leads into an adjacent dining area. Each space is punctuated by a unique light fixture, with pendants over the island and the dining area, and a ceiling fan is centered over the living space and made of combinations of glass and black metal with gold trim.

The kitchen is framed with warm, natural wood cabinets below the white, quartz countertops. The appliances and upper cabinets are in a low sheen, modern black which contrasts the white, floor-toceiling, traditional brick backsplash. A functional walk-in pantry is designed to maximize storage potential and features a “butcher block” counter area. There is a glass panel door off the kitchen leading to the covered patio area for easy and gracious entertaining inside and out.

A hallway from the kitchen leads you back to the first-floor laundry room, powder room, mud room, and garage access. The mud room has a long, floating wood bench for pulling your outside shoes on or off, and generous wall hooks spaced on a wall of black floor-to-ceiling trim. The laundry room is light and airy with a tile floor, quartz countertops, a deep sink, hanging rod, and plenty of cabinets for storage.

Three bedrooms on the upper level surround the loft that overlooks the living room. The open loft area is carpeted for a cozy feeling and has a floor-to-ceiling fireplace to gather around on chilly winter nights. A wet bar is conveniently located along one wall including a full-sized fridge, sink, lots of cabinetry for storage, and open shelves for display.

The carpeted primary bedroom is spacious and airy with an adjoining full bathroom and walk-in closet. The spa-like bathroom features a large hexagon tile floor in grey tones coordinating with a continuation of the natural, warm wood cabinetry and is punctuated by the white quartz counters and large, modern porcelain tile shower walls. A Wall-to-wall black framed mirror amplifies the

light from the window over the elegant, free-standing tub. Each additional bedroom is carpeted and generously sized offering plenty of room for rest and relaxation, including the guest suite on the main level.

The material combination of wood, quartz, and large tile can also be found in the secondary bathroom on this floor. This bathroom is easy to share, with two sinks and a separate toilet room for privacy including a high window for natural light and ventilation.
