One of my most enjoyable memories is when my wife Carrie and I would go searching for the perfect Christmas tree with our three young daughters and our English setter, Shelby. We would spend an entire afternoon at a local Christmas tree farm going up and down every trail before we finally decided on that perfect one. Great memories of sharing quality time with family on a cold winter day.

East Central

A

visit to East-Central Michigan is like coming home. The quiet

agricultural areas and fertile farmland throughout the Thumb and Great Lakes Bay region are inviting and familiar. Maybe it’s the area’s long agricultural history that stirs at our roots, or perhaps, the simple beauty of the traditional farmstead—the red barns and dairy cows, fields of corn, wheat, sugar beets and beans, long rows of vegetables and small fruit orchards—that awakens our gratitude for this beautiful land where our food is grown.

f you’ve spent time in Southwest Michigan, you will always be

drawn back. Charming beach towns, dazzling sunsets, and vigorous farmland make this an alluring place. Notably, this region warms up faster than much of the state and summertime lingers longer. What could be better? Look for early sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, melons, Niagara and Concord juice grapes, wine grapes, and other warm-season crops. This is also the land of the blueberry—and one of the leading areas for blueberry production in the country!

Southeast Y

ou may not think of Detroit and the surrounding region as an

agricultural destination, but it’s time to take a closer look! Southeast Michigan is, in fact, the oldest farming region in the state and has a long history of producing the food that powers the residents of its communities. Home to numerous farmers markets, the largest historic public market district in the country, beloved historic cider mills, educational farms, dairies, and pickyour-own orchards, this region is one of the most compelling agricultural areas of Michigan.
