EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

MiClcaheludilea Indonesian 08 / 01 / 1998 Constantly immersed in a mixture of cultures, I have grown to learn and appreciate diversity. This diversity has become a big part of who I am a person and as a designer. I believe that good design is an expression of many contradictions, One that is simple yet complex, considers form and function whilst possessing a timeless quality but pushes the boundaries of design. My approach to design is a mixture of dynamism and innovation, creating new spatial experiences.

16

SUBZERO COFFEE PROJECT Coffee Shop SIZE 170 sqm CLIENT Subzero Cafe LOCATION Jakarta

Subzero Cafe is a brunch and coffee cafe. The concept of this cafe is industrial meets contemporary. The main a"raction in this cafe is the undulating layers of timber that creates a cave-like cafe. It covers the entire wall and ceiling to break the monotony of spatial heights. Resembling a series of ribs, the layers envelop most of the interior, apart from the concrete wall and flooring. The interior compromises five types of seating areas so the customer can choose the enivironment best suits their mood. There is a huge bar table for a group, a person who needs a place to read or a couple who wants to chill can find their favorite spots.

18

LAYOUT PLAN Finishes were carefully chosen to create a cozy and relaxed ambience using natural materials and colors, including the selection of furnitures. Timber veneer slats matches concrete and gives a rustic touch. The ambience inside is warm and dark, a contrast from the outside. Individual pendant lights hang over each table, floor recessed strip lights gives a so" illumination to the timber slats, and create a soothing ambience. Neon text light fills up the empty wall of the cafe and gives off a bold statement.

The design focuses on rustic materials and objects such as exposed pipes and old wood. Incorperating it with hanging sofa and table with steel ceiling pipes adds both the eccentric vibe and wow factor to the cafe. The concept celebrates the history of coffee and where it was made, taking the users through a journey through time and place. Every element from the narrative to the most delicate details contributes to a whole in the interiors echoing factory and rustic feels. The unique elements and ambience of the coffee shop seperates the Hideout from the other coffee shop.

AT&T SHOP PROJECT Telecommunication Shop SIZE 156 sqm CLIENT AT&T LOCATION San Francisco AT&T is an international telecommunication shop that specializes in mobile phones, data plans, tablets and accessories. The concept of the cu!ing edge shop is futuristic contemporary with a twist of naturistic elements. The essence of the brand is the vast technology that is always in flux. Futurism embodies the word technology; and futuristic has its own appeal because of it’s unique form. To create a sustainable image but still keeps the futuristic ambience, a biomimicry element of a tree is added. The real size origami tree also acts as pillars; it gives the impression of an enviromental friendly future they dreamed. The bleecher is an eccentric and eye catching furniture that forms in a wavy stacking form acts as a waiting area and a presentation base. The overall origami themed ceiling shapes that covers the whole store, connects the ceiling and the floor together. To avoid the whole shop being too edgy with the origami, I've added several curves, waves and spheres to compliment.

O F F I C E . THE BRAVO

BRAVO COMPANY PROJECT Office SIZE 690 sqm CLIENT Bravo Office LOCATION Jakarta Bravo company is a creative led, independent design studio based in Singapore and New York. They have clients from various parts of the world, ranging from Singapore to San Francisco. They specialize in brand identity and development as well as printed communications and art directions. The concept of the graphic design office ‘ Bravo ‘ is contemporary pop. The concept manifests two parts of the office and company; playful and spontaneous, yet very professional. The initial idea was derived when I saw the ‘ Bravo ‘ website and logo. Their website spoke eccentric, excitement, bold, lively and simple design. The people working in the company seems to have a good sense of humor, fun and creative.

36

The concept contemporary pop defined their personality and brand image. The office features a professional workplace with ergonomic workstations, a mix of open landscape work places and some private rooms. At the same time, there are areas where social and spontaneous interaction between colleagues and guests could take place. The office is a mix of these functional requirements. The interior of the office is transformed into an eccentric office with pops of colors, geometry, typography quotes adds a bold statement to the room.

COLOR SCHEME

37

OFFICE

The color scheme of the new bravo office are black, grey, white, blue and yellow. Blue creates a sense of deep calm energy, wisdom and serenity because it is the color of the sky. It is excellent to use blue in the office because it promotes intellegence, efficiency and communication. Yellow is a complimetary color of blue but is used in a small area. Yellow stimulates optimism, confidence, and creativity so people aren’t easily bored. White color is pure, whole and complete. It makes the interior looks more spacious and clean. Grey color reflects professionality and elegance. It tones down all the bright colors and makes it more formal. Lastly, black is used in a small area. Black creates a bold statement to the office.

E X H I B I T I O N . BOOTH RAFFLES F-POD RAFFLES

45

RAFFLES BOOTH PROJECT Booth SIZE 16 sqm CLIENT Raffles Design Institute LOCATION Jakarta Raffles Design Institute is an design and business college based in Singapore. To convey this through the design of the F-Pod needs to be artistic and modern, so people would know it’s an art institution. My concept is to create something READY, DYNAMIC and EYE CATCHING. The hexagon is the most sided regular polygon that will tessellate. It’s simple and the pieces can be easily assembled and rearranged. The concept ‘seen to be seen’ is applied when you see the structure from the le" side, the right side of the information on the hexagonal can be seen. On the opposite side of the structure, the le" side of the information can also be seen due to its see-through panels. This medium sized f-pod has a contemporary feeling when customers walk in. The flamboyant color of orange which is the color of ‘ Raffles’ is purposely exaggerated by using basic colors.

RAFFLES F-POD PROJECT F-Pod SIZE 4 sqm CLIENT Raffles Design Institute LOCATION Jakarta Raffles Design Institute is an international college based in Singapore that specializes in design and business majors. I was assigned by Raffles to designed their 4 sqm F-pod booth for a university exhibition in Jakarta. The design concept of the booth is contemporary and sustainable with white and orange as the color scheme like the logo. The wave like shape of the booth creates both balance, harmony to the design due to the circular shape. The booth focuses on the lighting of the f-pod; it uses LEDs all around the wood slats to enhance the form and create diversity.

EXHIBITION

The three factors that embodies a great design follows the principles of design, which are balance, harmony and variety and we can find in this f-pod. The balance can be perceived in the shape of the booth, which is a combination of two small semi circles and one big semi circle (see the side elevations). One big semi circle is equivalent to two semi circles thus, pu"ing the whole structure in a state of equilibrium due to it’s concave shape. The weight of the whole structure is put to the two bars in the middle for more support. The harmony of this f-pod can be seen through the wood texture of this f-pod that’s visible from the ceiling to the flooring. Also the wooden slats that are stacked perfectly following the shape of the pod. Variety made this f-pod looks unique and takes it to the whole new level. The LED-acyrlic-diffused are placed in between the wooden slats in an unorderly way. It makes the concave appeals more and gain more visual interest for the customers.

It can be a hassle when it comes to Exhibitions hence, a knock-down and ready to assemble F-pod would save time, money and energy. The whole structure is made out of steel and aluminium; I aim to make the whole structure as light as possible. The wooden slats mentioned earlier are not made out of wood. Instead, they are square hollow aluminiums profile that is finished with a special sticker wood textures to get the effect. With aluminiums, the structure is lighter, more flexible, easier to adjust, and stronger compared to woods. The key that holds all of this structure together is the pipe joint; it connects the structure altogether from the ceiling to flooring. When assembling, the pieces are seperated by flooring, steel structure, pipe joint, logo, furniture, tv, lighting, wavy ceiling and concaved wall. In the exhibition all of these can be assembeled under an hour, then diassembled and reused again easily.

SHIBUI CHAIR The word ' Shibui ' in Japanese means simple and subtle in Japanese aesthetic. This chair symbolizes that term with its simple design with clean lines and geometric design. this chair design is inspired by the Japanese windows and its simplicity. It follows the clean and straight lines of the windows with repeating pa!erns. The chair is carefully handcra"ed by with the ďŹ nest wood. PAPER CRANE SCULPTURE

Inspired by the famous Japanese paper crane, the real size origami was made to study the structure elements like beams, columns and foundation. This model is in a scale of 1:50 and can function as a grand entrance or a pavillion to provide shades. It is a building that could withstand lateral and vertical forces with strong structure. The whole structure is made of steel covered with heavy duty canvas fabric.

73

JAPANESE FOLDING DOOR

ART

Folding doors are used to seperate two areas without wasting any space by stacking it at. Japanese design are famous for its practical and simple design; they used folding doors as much as sliding door because of their tiny space. This model was made in a scale of 1:25 to study the way door works and its aesthetic solutions. The door is made of wood and translucent screens to let lights in.

74

INTERWINED

Interwined is a sculpture made out of balsa wood. The two structure formed a connection together by supporting each other. This project They compliment each other in a way that makes a harmony together. This particular projects requires me to create something that follows the design principles of unity, harmony and variety.

LIFE IN A HIVE This model pavillion is a scale 1:50 acts as a shade from the sun. The concept of the pavillion follows the Golden Ratio which 5 of the hexagons are align and scaled in a ratio of 8:5:3:2:1. I applied this mathematical concept to come up with a more visually appealing design.

75

“ LIVING IN A NUTSHELL” This 1:25 miniature is a contemporary minimalist studio apartment with 50sqm. It’s challenging to fit an entire home in a small apartment. I have used the elements of interior design aggrandize the place by using bunk bed, tall cabinets and drawers and bright colors. The bunk bed features a stairs that acts drawers and below the bunk bed is a huge storage with lots of drawers and cabinets.

HEXAGONAL WALL PANEL

The concept of this design is contemporary futuristic with a rhythemic pa!ern. The design of this wood panel is inspired by the bee hive shape which is a hexagonal shape. This shape symbolizes unity and strong bond. The two triangles are packed in a dierent manner but formed one shape, a hexagonal. The wood panel is an eye catching wall that is suitable for a grand entrance or decorative wall for commercial space. The LED behind the panel illuminates subtly outlining the shapes of the hexagons.

PHOTOGRAPHY ‘ Naik ke Puncak gunung ’ by Michelle Claudia Canon 650D, f/16.0 , 1/50 sec, ISO 50 Theme: Essence of Nature Taken in : Puncak, Indonesia Taken on : September 29, 2014 Jakarta is now a city full of with humans and buildings, until the 'nature' becomes a foreign word. I took the time to go to the Puncak early in the morning in order to get blue sky and morning hues. On the way up to Gunung Gede, I saw a sloping hill with Pine trees that lined neatly. It reminds me of a childhood song 'Naik ke Puncak Gunung'. I felt a moment of serenity and bliss seing this rare beautiful lanscape that le! me in awe. This is the definition of 'Essence of Nature' for me, which is cool and fresh air free of pollution can be felt, as well as seeing the mountains surrounded by trees and greenery.
