Why study a Degree in Contemporary
Studying in Ireland Ireland is an attractive, affordable and welcoming destination for US students with over 8,000 Americans a year choosing to study in Ireland across a broad range of programs and disciplines. City
Limerick
While I was at MIC, I learned a lot about myself as well as Ireland. I met some amazing people who made my journey that much better. I was involved in clubs and societies such as the Live Music Society and the International Students’ Society. The classes I took made my experiences more enjoyable because when I would travel through the country, I would recognise landmarks I learned about in my Early Modern Ireland class, or see signs in Gaelic that I could read thanks to my Gaeilge ab initio class. All in all, through the classes and experiences that MIC helped me to engage in, I fell in love with the country and would recommend going abroad to anyone who has even the smallest interest.
Michelle McCabe (USA)
Caitlin Birge (USA) Deciding to come to Mary Immaculate College was the best thing I could have done for myself. MIC is a great college, filled with kind and welcoming people. The reason I picked MIC is because of its size. The College is small but that is the best part. Students and lecturers all know your face and it is so easy to talk to your lecturers about anything. I wanted to come to Ireland because it is such a beautiful country and Limerick was the perfect place to come because everything you need is so close. The city centre is a ten minute walk, and the bus station is even closer!
Student Life in Limerick City Limerick City is Ireland’s third largest city and renowned for its culture and heritage. Originally founded as a Viking fortress, you can still find the majestic King John’s medieval castle at the heart of Limerick City on the beautiful River Shannon. With a population of just 100,000 in the city center, Limerick is a very studentfriendly, safe environment. It is a cultural hub for theater, music and art as well as being the home of Munster Rugby and a stronghold of Gaelic Games such as hurling. It is easy to get around while offering all the amenities and benefits of living in a city. Limerick is a Gateway City to the Wild Atlantic Way with Bunratty Castle and the iconic Cliffs of Moher within an hour’s drive and it is just two hours to Dublin. Ideally located just twenty minutes from Shannon International Airport, our international students avail of low-cost fares to travel around Europe with ease.
