THROUGH THE CRACKS 3RD YEAR PROJECT
LOCATION: Onehunga, AKL, NZ YEAR: 2013 SOFTWARE: Adobe Photoshop CS6 Adobe Illustrator CS6 Rhinocerous 5.0 Autodesk 3ds Max 2014 Autodesk AutoCAD 2014 THROUGH THE CRACKS is a proposal to redesign the existing privatised Onehunga WaterCare plant into a public water education centre and wetland. Onehunga has a substantial underground aquifer which gathers rainwater through the cracks around One Tree Hill, Mout Eden and Mount Wellington. From these three main catchment regions, the central water flow direction is drawn to towards the site to form a geometry which defines the order of function and form of the architecture. ARK IN THE PARK MIXED-USE DESIGN COMPETITION
Ark in the Park is a conceptualized geographic response to the characteristics of the historical springs under the site. The ancient river has always been the gathering point of activities in historical times, thus this project aimed to recreate the vibrant reflection of the ancient atmosphere through a dynamic use of space. The design cultivates green space as an echoing element to the surrounding green frame proposed for CBD redevelopment of Christchurch. Avon river creates a strong contrast with the existing city grid especially the Focusing on the ‘sense of place’ and the historical aspects of the site. angles at which it intersects with the grid.
Using the cut spaces as open public courtyards (divided into four separate sections for four separate properties) - echo the river’s active characteristic
Passages are created between each property line to create permeability; main circulation route is derived from the direction of the underground.

Abstracting the spring angles in a general direction.
6. MASSING FORM
Facades facing the courtyard are cut at 60o sloping away, to emphasize the shared space.

Buildings are further shaped with a modular system using the diagonal cuts. Every building is mix used with the lower levels being more concentrated on public permeability and the upper more focused on private living.
9. GREEN CONNECTIONS
Creates a very strong connection between each building as a whole and generates a positive atmosphere for its inhabitants.
OAK PAVILION
EX-TREE COURTYARD DESIGN COMPETITION
The competion was initiated due to fall of two large ancient Oak trees which was the heart of the University of Auckland’s NICAI faculty courtyard. In absense of these grand trees, the competition asked to design a new courtyard. The Oak Pavilion is a project looks into the dynamics of wind and sound through the use of timber chimes installed on a set of pavilions for the new courtyard. ETCH-A-SKETCH
2ND YEAR GROUP INSTALLATION PROJECT
The ETCH-A-SKETCH project is a dynamic and interactive light installation that is conceived to celebrate this time of burgeoning possibilities for the city of Christchurch. Operating on a massive scale, the giant ‘Etch-aSketch’ will draw bright vectors of light that form wireframe rectilinear light structures both around and above festival goes as they walk through the space.
