EDITO EDITORIAL
Récemment arrivé en poste à l’Alliance française de Kuala Lumpur, c’est un honneur et un très grand plaisir pour moi que de prendre la direction d’une institution malaisienne dédiée à promouvoir les échanges et une meilleure compréhension entre les cultures malaisienne et française. Depuis plus de 50 ans, grâce à nos prédécesseurs, l’Alliance française s’est imposée comme l’endroit de Kuala Lumpur où l’on apprend le Français et où l’on vit de magnifiques expériences culturelles. Notre comité et sa présidente francophile, Tengku Zatashah Idris, sont résolument déterminés à renforcer notre action, à parfaire nos services et à améliorer encore notre centre de Lorong Gurney. Il s’agit là d’un défi motivant pour notre équipe mais également d’une chance pour l’Alliance française de Kuala Lumpur. Cela permettra également à tous ceux qui désirent nous accompagner, de partager les valeurs d’un réseau mondial, guidé de Paris par la Fondation Alliance qui célèbre cette année le 130ème anniversaire de l’Alliance française. Pour l’heure je vous invite à découvrir notre programme culturel riche et varié pour les deux mois à venir : films européens et français, danse, documentaires, ateliers, conférences et, bien sûr, des rencontres à l’occasion des fêtes de Noël. As the newly appointed Director of the Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur it is for me both a great honour and a tremendous pleasure to be in charge of a Malaysian institution dedicated to promote exchanges and a better understanding between Malaysian and French Cultures. For more than fifty years now, thanks to our predecessors, the Alliance Française has been the place in Kuala Lumpur to learn French and to live wonderful cultural experiences. Our executive committee and its Francophile President, Tengku Zatashah Idris, are strongly determined to enhance our action, to improve our services and to make our centre in Lorong Gurney a better place still. This is a chance for the Alliance Française of Kuala Lumpur as well as a motivating challenge for our team. For all those who wish to accompany us, it will also be an opportunity to share the values of a world-wide network guided by the Alliance Foundation in Paris, celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Alliance Française this year. For the time being, I invite you to discover our rich and varied cultural programme for the next two months: films from France and Europe, dance, documentaries, workshops, conferences, and, of course, Christmas gatherings. Il est l’un des plus beaux livres qu’il m’ait été donné de lire. Une petite fille, « belle de jour » est retrouvée morte, assassinée dans le petit village de V. Elle était le dernier rayon de lumière pour ce village perdu, enraciné dans la misère. Qui est le responsable de ce meurtre atroce qui secoue le village, révolte ses habitants ?

Ici les âmes se croisent et s’entrechoquent, se soupçonnent et se déchirent avec en toile de fond « la guerre des tranchées », la première guerre mondiale, racontée par un narrateur mystère que le livre dévoilera petit à petit car lui aussi possède ses propres secrets. Ce sont bien ces hommes, ces « âmes », qui sont au centre du roman, ces personnages à la fois grandiloquents et misérables, nobles et lâches. Philippe Claudel, avec une grande sensibilité qui caractérise son écriture, nous apporte une réflexion sur la nature humaine lorsque celle-ci est confrontée au mal. Philippe Claudel’s creatures are neither white nor black, they are grey”. They are dulled by coldness and by this endless war. This is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. A young girl, “Belle de Jour” is found dead, murdered in the small village V. She was the last ray of light in this remote village, rooted in misery. Who committed this dreadful murder which shocks the village and revolts its inhabitants? Here souls cross and clash, suspect each other and get torn apart; as a background, the trench warfare, the first World War, told by a mysterious narrator whose secrets are slowly unveiled of whom the own secrets are slowly unveiled. These “souls” who are the main focus of the novel are nothing but men, both grandiose and miserable, both noble and coward. Philippe Claudel, with the great sensibility characterizing his writing, brings up his considerations on human nature confronted to evil.

Chaque année, le mois du film documentaire met à l’honneur des films documentaires rares ou peu diffusés pour partager des moments de convivialité autour du cinéma. Pour cette 14ème édition, l’Alliance Française a sélectionné trois films, trois décennies qui évoquent le regard de réalisateurs sur des femmes et leur travail quotidien. Qu’elles soient ouvrière, bistrote ou maitre-verrier, la caméra se glisse dans leur vie professionnelle pour conter une histoire psychologique, sociologique, politique ou simplement humaine.

Each year, the month of the documentary puts into light rare or hardly shown documentary movies with the aim of sharing moments of conviviality around cinema. For this 14th edition, the Alliance Française has selected 3 movies, from 3 decades, showing the view of directors on women and their daily work. Whether they be labourer, barmaid or glassmaker, the camera seeps into their professional life to tell a psychological, sociologic, politic or or simply human story. They did not all die but all were stricken - Wednesday 27 November, 8pm Sophie Bruneau and Marc-Antoine Roudil, 2006 - 1h20 Every week, in three public hospitals of Paris suburbs, a psychologist and two doctors receive patients. The movie is a testimony of the normalization of pain in the work environment.

Concours de photographie “On joue sur la Terre”

Pour sa 4ème édition, le concours photo organisé par la Fondation Alliance Française s’intitule « On joue sur la Terre ». L’occasion de créer un reportage photographique illustrant les pratiques ludiques à travers le monde. Photographes amateurs, à vos appareils ! Ce concours est gratuit et ouvert aux adultes résidant à Kuala Lumpur. Chaque participant a jusqu’au 9 décembre pour envoyer deux photos autour du thème « On joue sur la Terre » à l’AFKL. Le lauréat sera sélectionné par un jury de l’AFKL pour participer à la phase internationale de la compétition qui aura lieu le 25 janvier 2014. La Fondation Alliance Française sélectionnera 40 photographies qui seront l’objet d’une exposition collective à Paris. Le grand gagnant remportera un séjour d’une semaine à Paris ainsi qu’une exposition individuelle dans une galerie parisienne. photography competition - “We play on earth!” Now in its 4th edition, the photo competition organized by the Fondation Alliance Française is called “We play on earth”. The occasion to create a photographic journey showing the wide range of playful activities all around the world. Amateurs photographers, grab your cameras! This competition is free and open to all adults Kuala Lumpur residents. Each participant must send 2 pictures to AFKL around the theme “We play on earth” before December 9. The winner will be selected by a jury from AFKL to attend the international phase of the competition to be held on 25 January 2014. The Fondation Alliance Française will select 40 photographs to be exhibited in Paris. The grand winner will be awarded with a one-week stay in Paris as well as a solo exhibition in a Parisian gallery. Ken Yang, Paris – Kuala Lumpur EXPOSITION DE Peintures 2002 – 2013 L’artiste Ken Yang, le plus Parisien des Malaisiens, membre de la Maison des Artistes, est de retour à Kuala Lumpur après plus de onze ans passés à Paris. A l’invitation des autorités de son pays d’origine, Ken Yang revient avec une grande exposition à la Galerie Nationale des Arts Visuels (Balai Seni Visual Negara), où il déploie des peintures d’inspiration européenne, ainsi que des toiles avec des thèmes de la Malaisie. Entre art figuratif et portraiture royale, l’artiste nous mène dans un voyage visuel et sensoriel entre Paris et Kuala Lumpur : Une ambiance parisienne, meublée de drapés, d’antiquités et de mille objets d’inspiration du XIXe siècle (collection de l’artiste). With responsible teachers and efficient pedagogy team, they had made sure that I progressed and achieved my learning goals!” “Prior to joining AFKL, I had studied French back home but that was a few years ago. I love learning the language, that’s why I wanted to continue learning French. Before I settled down with AFKL, I did my research and discovered that AFKL is the only authorized French Language Center in Kuala Lumpur (under the French Embassy). Hence, I decided to join somewhere I know there will be supervision over students and their progress. I loved the ambiance in Lorong Gurney center – it is a big, spacious place, surrounded by the nature. I had the chance to meet many wonderful individuals including the native French speakers and to join various French cultural activities – all these helped me to improve my language skills and cultural knowledge in the real life. Over time, my classmates and teachers in AFKL become my friends, and this wonderful experience made the learning of French easier and more fun. After one year of studying in AFKL, I managed to obtain B2 in TCF-Q exam and I am quite happy about that. I have no regret that I chose AFKL! Rentrée de septembre 2014 en France ? Les inscriptions commencent maintenant ! Vous êtes titulaire du STPM ou du A-Level, d’un niveau DELF B2 et vous souhaitez faire vos études en France, en français, à la rentrée de septembre prochain ? C’est le moment de constituer votre dossier de demande d’admission préalable pour intégrer une université. Cette procédure est obligatoire pour les étudiants étrangers souhaitant s’inscrire à l’université en 1ère ou 2ème année de licence. Le dossier, à retirer sur le site internet de l’ambassade de France en Malaisie ou au Centre universitaire franco-malaisien, est à rendre avant le 10 janvier 2014. Your next intake in France ? It is time for pre-registration in French Universities You have passed STPM or A-Level diploma, a DELF B2, and you would like to study in France, in French, in September 2014? This is the time to apply for pre-registration to enter French universities. This pre-registration process, called Demande d’admission préalable (DAP), is compulsory for all foreign students who would like to pursue studies in France in the first and the second year of Bachelor’s degree (licence). The application form is available on the French Embassy website and at the MFUC. Candidates have to bring it back to the MFUC before 10 January 2014. If you cannot provide DELF B2, you will be asked to take a proficiency test called TCF, organised by the AFKL in the end of February 2014. To register in BTS, DUT (vocational degrees) or in Art schools, there is an online procedure, called Admission Post-bac (APB) : http://www.admission-postbac.fr/ For registration in master’s degree, candidates have to contact directly the university where they want to study.
