If 410 million other people could start a Facebook account you certainly can do it! Over 60% of Facebook Users login daily if not more often. Fastest growing demographic 35 years and older. The average user has 130 friends. A facebook user can have up to 5,000 friends. A facebook page can have unlimited fans. Over 3 million events are created on Facebook monthly. Over 2 BILLION links are shared on Facebook monthly. Over 10 million photos are shared on Facebook monthly. 70% of college students logon to Facebook DAILY. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, is the world’s youngest billionaire.

www.facebook.com First Name: It is suggested that you use your actual first name. Before Facebook changed their Fan Pages many businesses set up profiles for their businesses. This is no longer necessary . Last Name: Enter your current last name. Those with maiden names can add their maiden name later. Your Email: We suggest starting a Gmail account and then pointing all of your social media to the one email address. Review our Gmail Learning Guide . New Password: Choose a password you are comfortable with. Remember to make it a mix of numbers and letters. I am: Male or Female are your choices. Birthday: Month Year and Date must be filled out. Why do I need to provide this? : If you are not comfortable sharing this information Facebook explains why they need it. Sign Up: Click sign up to complete this page.

Profile Picture We have discussed in past training guides the science of profile pictures. It is important to create a few sizes of profile pictures and keep the graphic consistent . 250 pixels x 250 pixels for Facebook will fit perfectly. Click on Upload a Photo. Choose the photo from your computer. Upload the photo.

Relationship Status: You may find out more than you want to know , but Facebook allows you to choose your relationship status and who you share the relationship with. Your choices are: Single, In a Relationship, Engaged, Married, Its Complicated, In an Open Relationship, and Widowed.

1. This area will allow you to search for friends through your email contacts. Save this step for last. 2. Fill out your profile information. We will start here first. 3. Activate your mobile phone. We will do this when we choose our URL username.

Where to Start 4. Search for friends by name or by email address one at a time in this area.name or by email address one at a time in this area. This can be done at anytime. 5. Control what information you share. This is where privacy settings can be set for your account.

Basic information All areas need not be filled in. You can choose how much you would like to share and with who in privacy settings. Sex: Male and Female are the choices. Show my sex in my profile: You can choose if you want others to know if you are male or female. Birthday: Month, Day, and Year. Birthday greetings are very popular on Facebook. Show my full birthday in my profile: Choose how much information you want to share with other. Current City: The Town or area in which you currently live. Hometown: Where you grew up and consider home. Home Neighborhood: This can be an area example: Sunny Hills, Temeku, or the lake. Relationship Status: If you want to share your current relationship status this area can be selected. More Basic Information Interested in: If you are looking to “mingle� you can choose whom you would like to mingle with. Looking for: All of these can be chosen, a few, or none. This information is up to you. People do look at your profile so share carefully. Political Views: This is a fill in the blank so no need to fit into any box. Religious Views: Same as political view, open box.

Events: Create an event on Facebook and share it with others. It becomes like a profile page for the event. Links, photos, video, and information can be shared on the event page. You even have the option to invite others. Click on the calendar page icon on Facebook to try it out.

Personal information All of these areas are fill in the blank. It is suggested that you separate ideas with commas, but besides that share as much or as little as you like. Links will be created in your profile page from your topics to search engine searches. There are three choices in the photo area. Upload a photo: which will allow you to upload a single photo. Take a photo: This allows you to take a picture with your web cam. Create an Album: This allows to upload up to 200 photos per album

Contact information Facebook has privacy settings for your contact information. However any time you put information on the web there is a chance it will be shared. This area can be filled out as fully or as sparsely as you wish: IM Screen Name(s): Allow friends to find you via your IM account. Mobile Phone: You can choose who your phone number will be shared with in the privacy settings. You will need to share it with Facebook in order to secure a URL username later. Land Phone: House phone or Business number Address: Once again you can choose to share this information or not. Home or Business. City/Town: This will allow other users to search for you via your area. Neighborhood: This can be an area of town or housing tract. Zip : Zip Code Website: Share your personal or business email address. Create a Facebook badge for your website: You can share your Facebook account on your website. Save Changes: Click here to save information.

Education and work College / University: This will give you the ability to connect with other classmates. This will also allow them to find you. If you include your year it makes it even easier to be found. You can add multiple colleges. Concentration: Your area of study High School: Like the College section this allows you to connect with other classmates. Employer: Share your employer and allow coworkers and bosses to find you on Facebook. Once again share as much or as little as you like. Position: What was your job title? Description: What tasks did your job include. City/Town: Where was your job located? Time Period: When did you work there? Save: Be sure to click save when you are complete. Whats on your mind? Thought: The What’s on your mind? Area allows you to share thoughts , ideas, quotes, or anything else that can be shared via text. Photo: Click on the photo icon to share photos with friends. Video: Upload a video to Facebook to share. The video may not be larger than 1024 MB and no longer than 20 minutes. Remember copyrighted material may not be shared. Event: Create an event on Facebook and share it with others. It becomes like a profile page for the event. Links, photos, video, and information can be shared on the event page. You even have the option to invite others. Link: Share a webpage by copying the URL , clicking on the link button and pasting the URL into the area given. A great way to show interesting information you have found on the web. Don’t forget you can share You Tube Videos by copying the link supplied by You Tube.

Find friends on facebook There are a few ways to connect with friends on Facebook: Find People You Email: This option will go through your emails and find any emails that match accounts on Facebook. It then gives you an option to connect with these friends. Search for People: This will allow you to enter a full name or email address to find more friends. Find Classmates: Find friends you went to High School or college with. This will start the search with other classmates that graduated with you. Find Coworkers: This will search for others that worked for the same company or organization that you have indicated you worked for. Find People You IM: This will search your contacts in your IM system. Suggestions: As you connect with friends on Facebook , Facebook will start making suggestion of friends you might know. Finding friends and businesses by URL: You may see ads with Facebook addresses in magazines, on receipts, and all around. You can always type that into your URL box and friend those organizations.

Facebook URL Username In order to choose a username for your Facebook profile you must type in the above url or click this link. This will allow you to choose a friendly URL for your Facebook profile. This makes it much easier to share with friends.

Facebook Page: is a public profile that enables you to share your business and products with Facebook users.

Facebook Groups: are centered around ideas and hobbies. Facebook Groups allow interaction between members.

Get your cell phone ready! Have your cell phone ready and click the continue button. Choose your country code. Enter your cell phone number with area code. Click confirm. You will be sent a text message from Facebook. (Regular texting charges will apply) The text will be a code.

Confirm Your phone Enter the code sent from Facebook in the code area and click Confirm.

You can choose one of Facebook’s suggestions or type in your own desired username. Have a few in mind there may be a chance it is not available. Click the Check availability button. Continue to try until you find an available name.

Username available - confirm Once you have chosen an available user name it will ask you to confirm. If you make a mistake you will only have one change available to change your name. The username will then be set by Facebook. It will also share with you your new friendly URL.
