The Best Magic Card Tricks Revealed - Mental Health Techniques According to "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Magic Tricks, most magic card tricks contain the same basic premise. The magician asks an audience member to pick a card, then magically discovers which card the spectator chose. Adding variations to this trick does not take much more effort, and can make you a great card magician.
• The Basic Trick Spread the cards out before the spectator and ask them to pick one. Then ask them to replace it. Close and shuffle the deck. You will then "magically" find the card they picked, and ask "Is this your card?" The Trick: While the spectator is still memorizing their card, cut the deck. Do this by pulling up half of the deck and holding it in your right hand. At this point, you need to subtly tilt the portion of the deck in your right hand so you can peek at the card on the bottom. Then ask the spectator to replace his chosen card in your left hand. Replace the top half of the deck. You can cut the deck several times, as long as you do not shuffle it. Finally, begin placing the cards on the table one by one, asking the spectator to think of the card they had. When you get to the key card, you know the next card you reveal will be the spectator's card. Pick it up and pretend that you have telepathically figured out what the card is.
The Bet • Perform the above trick, but with a slight variation. When you are placing the cards faceup on the table, continue to place a few more cards face-up after you have revealed the key card and the audience member's selected card. Pick up the next random card, and tell the audience member you bet them the next card you turn over will be theirs. They will, of course, take the bet because you have already revealed their card. Then, instead of turning the next card face-up, turn over the card that the audience member chose, so it is face-down on the table.
Weighing cards • Perform the basic trick, but tell the spectator that you will know the card by its weight. Tell them that the human hand leaves a smudge that very slightly alters the weight of the card. When you turn each card face-up at the end, act as though you are weighing them. When you get to the key card, go back a couple cards, then forward to the spectator's card.
Telepathy • Once the audience member has replaced their card in the deck, spread the deck across a table, and ask the audience member to think of their card, without looking at it. Find the key card, then find their card, then memorize it. Flip the deck together, shuffle, and put it back in the box, as if in frustration. Make one final attempt at reading the audience member's mind, then slowly reveal the identity of their card.
