Great Tradition Helped Turkey Valley ▪ Trojans Make 8th Straight Post-season Run By Michael Hohenbrink Editor When the season got underway for Turkey Valley, few might have guessed just where the practices and hard work would lead. With some strong opponents, some losses might have seemed inevitable, particularly with teams on the schedule such as Central Elkader and AGWSR. With the former, in particular, a victory over powerhouse Don Bosco made Central Elkader a force to reckon with, achieving a 44-34 win. Yet, fate smiled upon the Trojans. Central Elkader (7-2) came the closest of any team this season to stopping Turkey Valley’s perfect run and still ended up 22 points behind the Trojans with a 42-20 TV victory. Over the course of the season,

TV saw margins of victory ranging from 22 points, their lowest winning margin, all the way up to a 72-7 rout of Clarksville with a 65-point margin of victory. “The players have put in the effort in practice and at BFS morning sessions,” said Coach Mark Scott. Both offense and defense helped the Trojans. “The players have executed well offensively and played great team defense,” said Scott. Now in his 14th year as head coach, Scott noted an impressive record for the team with TV’s 15th

trip to post-season with nine on his watch. With this season’s successful bid to make it into post-season, TV is in its eighth year in a row of making it to post-season. “It gives me a sense of pride to be part of a great tradition here at TV,” said Scott.

Wyatt Blazek’s two-point conversion helped keep the Trojans competitive early in the game against Don Bosco.

competitive this year.” Scott is in his 14th year as head coach and is backed by assistants Dan Stepan and Chris Sullivan along with volunteer Frank Wilson. Scott noted the team would be in a new group of teams against which the Trojans will play. “Riceville has a good squad returning,” said Scott. Northwood-Kensett, Janesville and AGWSR are all on his radar as strong contenders. As a team weakness, Scott noted one point. “We are small in a few positions,” said Scott. Key for success will be tackling on the defensive side while on the offensive side, execution is important.

Dons, Trojans Share History TV Has Seen 0-3 Record With Don Bosco By Michael Hohenbrink Editor Turkey Valley’s post-season hopes were dashed by Don Bosco in the first round of post-season play. That’s become a bit of a tradition for the Trojans. After a perfect season by Turkey Valley, perennial rival Don Bosco was able to put a halt to the Trojans’ run. The Oct. 28 victory by the Dons (75-24) marks the third year in a row for the Trojans to be thwarted by Don Bosco.

Last year, Turkey Valley defeated Midland 42-26 in the first round of playoffs, only to be brought up short by the Dons in the second game, 34-74. In 2014, the Dons trounced the Trojans 660. A powerhouse in 8-man football, Don Bosco is a formidable opponent. The same year the Trojans saw their 0-66 loss, the Dons made national headlines with a 102-6 pummeling of an opponent with the Tri-County Community School District. While Turkey Valley loses 10 seniors this year, the program overall has been a healthy competitor, seeing a 9-1 record for winning seasons over the course of the past decade. That record means the Trojans have a fighting chance of seeing playoff ac-
