My First Christmas In Heaven I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below. With tiny lights, like heaven’s stars, reflecting on the snow. The sight is so spectacular; please wipe away that tear, for I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear, but the sounds of music can’t compare with the Christmas choir here. I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring, for it’s beyond description to hear the angels sing. I know how much you miss me. I see the pain inside your heart, but I am not so far away. We really aren’t apart. So be happy for me, dear ones. You know I hold you dear and be glad I’m spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I send you each a special gift from my heavenly home above. I send you each a memory of my undying love. After all, “Love is the gift, more precious than pure gold. It was always most important in the stories Jesus told. Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do, for I can’t count the blessings or the love He has for each of you. So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear. Remember, I’m spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

Warmest Wishes Over the river and through the woods, we hope our best wishes reach you wherever you celebrate this season. Wishing you safe travels and a very happy holidays!

Keota Elementary Letters to Santa

The Song That Rings In The Night By RD KEEP Nearly 200 years ago, in 1816, a young priest by the name of Joseph Mohr created the text to a Christmas carol that still is sung with reverence each year. Mohr penned his words in the form of a poem in Mariapfarr in the Lungau region of Salzberg, Austria, where he was living at the time. Mohr’s words sat only on paper until December 1818 when the priest wanted a song to share with his congregation on Christmas Eve. The following is a story penned and orated by the late Ralph Childs at KMA Radio in Shenandoah. “In a little Austrian village a priest stared out into the darkness. It was Christmastime in the year of 1818. The sun had drifted behind the frosted peaks of the mountains ringing the town of Rogendorf, where in almost despondency sat the Rev. Joseph Mohr. A serious problem tormented him. The village priest and organist Franz Gruber of the tiny church of St. Nicholas had spent many days working out plans for a festive Christmas observance. But the church organ was broken. Mice had destroyed the bellows. Only six hours remained to prepare a sermon before Midnight Mass and words would not come. Suddenly there was a sharp pounding at the door, it burst open and a man stood in the doorway, snow mantling his shoulder. A mile up the mountain a young woman had given birth and she wanted the child to be baptized at once. Would Father Mohr please come quickly? The priest reached for his hat and coat. He knew it would take hours to make the trip; the narrow streets were choked with drifts. The journey seemed to take an eternity, but the sight of the proud radiant mother and her new baby brought a curious peak to Father

Mohr. As he tramped home through the drifting snow his thoughts turned again and again to the serenity of the mother and child he had seen. In Father Mohr’s mind the words of a poem began to form. He considered to make them into a sermon weighty with meaning, but the poem kept coming back to his mind. It was all but ¿QLVKHG ZKHQ KH NLFNHG WKH VQRZ IURP KLV ERRWV DQG VDW GRZQ EHIRUH WKH ¿UH LQ WKH VWXG\ His friend Franz Gruber was waiting for him. As Father Mohr listened, his burden listened and his spirit soared. Gruber had set his poem to music and the children were singing it. The song would be his sermon. Father Moore didn’t know that this simple song was destined for the ages, but it did seem right to him as his hand rose in benediction over the heads of the children. As the verses are sung, the light from the candle dances in the shadows silently calling us to the manger of so long ago.

Yes, Virginia came the answer from The Sun For 117 years the story has been told of an eight-year-old who dared to ask the question. While questions have arisen as to whether the little girl or her father actually uttered the words in the now famous letter the authenticity of the letter remains. Each year the letter and its contents are reprinted from the copy published in The Sun from New York City. With permission we at The Sun are reprinting this communiquĂŠ Virginia O’Hanlon wrote to the editor, Francis Pharcellus Church. What follows is The Sun’s editorial. Yes, Virginia ... We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the VDPH WLPH RXU JUHDW JUDWLÂżFDWLRQ WKDW LWV IDLWKIXO DXWKRU LV QXPbered among the friends of The Sun: Dear Editor— I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.â€? Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus? Virginia O’Hanlon 115 West Ninety Fifth Street Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childKRRG ÂżOOV WKH ZRUOG ZRXOG EH H[WLQJXLVKHG Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Greetings of the Season

Thank you for your goodwill and support all year long.

to all our good friends

Please accept our thanks and best wishes for the very merriest holiday season.

Into large microwavable bowl, measure cereal; set aside. Line cookie sheet with waxed paper or foil. In 2-cup microwavable measuring cup, microwave brown sugar, butter and corn syrup uncovered on High 1 to 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until melted and smooth. Stir in baking soda until dissolved. Pour caramel mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Microwave on High 3 minutes, stirring every minute. Spread on cookie sheet. Cool 10 minutes. Break into bite-sized pieces. Make sure Chex mixture is cool to the touch (so candy doesn't melt.) Evenly sprinkle mini peanut butter cups candy and miniature marshmallows over Chex mixture. In small microwavable bowl, microwave caramel baking bits and cream uncovered on High about 1 minute or until chips can be stirred smooth. Use a spoon or fork to drizzle over snack. Microwave the milk chocolate baking chips next, starting with 20-seconds and stirring, then at 20 second intervals until the mixture is completely smooth (microwave temps vary, so watch the chocolate and stir frequently until it's of drizzling consistency). Drizzle over the snack mixture. Then microwave the vanilla (white) baking chips in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth, and drizzle that over the snack mixture. (Note: The vanilla and milk chocolate chips should not need cream added.) Quickly sprinkle coarse salt over all while candy drizzles are still wet. Refrigerate until set. Break apart and store in tightly covered container.

With Wishes Warm & Bright For your patronage this year, we are deeply grateful and wish you and yours the very best holiday season ever!

A Visit from St. Nicholas Poem

For many years children have sat on the laps of their fathers and grandfathers and listened intently to the words of a poem written simply, silently nearly two centuries ago. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Stir in vanilla. Remove from heat. Add cereal. Stir until well coated. Let cool for several minutes. Stir in M&M's, very gently! They will have a tendency to melt. Pour them over the mixture as spread out as possible so you don't have to stir much. Using wax paper press mixture evenly into prepared pan. Let cool for 15 minutes or until set.

‘Twas

... A few days before Christmas and I looked at my car. It was bumped and all dented; been driven too far. The horn didn’t beep, The signals just quit, The brakes didn’t work, The tires were split. The windshield was cracked and was hard to see through. The gas line was clogged; Hydraulic lines too. I shrugged my humped shoulders and uttered a sigh. Different wheels I must get; To this mess say “Bye-Bye. To Wagler Motor Co. I went hoping I’d feel, Their Showroom of values would give me a Good Deal. I looked to the left and then to the right, They all sparkled and shined under all those bright lights. It was then I saw it in the center of the lot, I could feel my heart pounding, My cheeks were all hot. Jim, Bob and Mike smiled and said, “Simmer down, “I’ll give you a Deal, How does this figure sound? With that I said, “Yes and jumped at that price, ‘Cause I wanted that car so shiny and nice! Waglers, Waglers, my dreams have come true.
