Grand champion steer: Grace Boyle, 18, of Holstein had a day to remember Friday at the Ida County beef show. She showed the grand champion market steer, grand champion market heifer and was named top senior beef showman. The grand champion steer, above, was also judged to be the champion home raised steer. Reserve grand champion steer: Kacie Mandernach, 15, of Odebolt, competing as an O-A/BC-IG FFA member, showed the reserve grand champion market steer at the Ida County fair beef show Friday. The animal was also named the champion purchased steer. Kacie is the daughter of Mindi and the late Scott Mandernach. Kacie said Friday’s achievement was extra special because it came on her father’s birthday. With Mandernach is beef show judge Ben Kelly.

Katie showed the champion pen, while Kollin showed the reserve pen. They are the children of Cordell and Barb Knudsen and Blaine Clover 4-H members.

Cattle wash: The cattle washing stations at the Ida County Fair were busy Friday morning prior to the start of the beef show. Approximately 50 head of individual cattle were shown in the morning and 22 pens of three were shown in the afternoon.

Fun at the fair: The Ida County Fair offered fun activities throughout its 2017 run including, at top and going clockwise, the Rafter K Equestrian Drill Team performing a routine to recognize victims of cancer prior to the start of Saturday’s rodeo; a rodeo clown shows off his dance moves to the crowd Saturday; several ladies show off the artwork they created during Thursday’s Ladies Night Out, which featured “Painting with Kate” and Bob Paulsrud, with the help of Linda Burk, auctions off several items donated by Ida County 4-H groups prior to Saturday’s rodeo (all of the proceeds from the auction go to the Ida County 4-H Foundation, which uses the funds for scholarships, projects and camps).

Animals and ag/natural resources: Margo McMillen, tractor planter and alternate Brayden Doty, knot tying poster. Personal development: Ethan Zobel, “EZ Equipment Sales” (self-determined project).
