At annual awards program —

Ida County 4-Hers recognized Several Ida County 4-Hers received recognition Nov. 5 at the annual Ida County 4-H awards program in Holstein. Merit awards were presented to 4-Hers who demonstrated outstanding participation in 4-H activities at the club and county levels. They were presented to juniors Lauren McMillen (Maple Huskies) and Jaycie Vohs (Ida High Achievers), intermediates Kylee Weber (Maple Huskies) and Elizabeth Zobel (Grant 4-H’ers) and seniors Bridget Verschoor (Maple Huskies) and Lance Else (Ida High Achievers). Youth leadership awards were presented to senior members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in 4-H at the county level and beyond. Lexi Phillips of the Ida High Achievers and Madeline Else of the Battle Badgers received the youth leadership awards. Collin Grove of the Blaine Clovers and Lillian Hoffman of the Logan Hotshots received communications awards. Livestock project awards are presented to 4-H’ers who have been actively involved in a livestock project, and have shown at the fair for at least three years. Receiving livestock awards were Maple Huskie Kylee Weber (beef), Blaine Clover Collin Grove (horse), Logan Hotshot Lillian Hoffman (sheep) and Battle Badger Madeline Else (swine). Outstanding record book awards went to juniors—Margo McMillen (Maple Huskies) and Abigail Else (Ida High Achievers) and intermediates—Lillian Hoffman (Logan Hotshots) and Tate Phillips (Ida High Achievers). Ethan Zobel (Grant 4-H’ers) and Ryan Paulsrud (Ida High Achievers) received outstanding longtime record book awards. Outstanding other record awards went to Lexi Phillips, Ida High Achievers; Lance Else, Ida High Achievers; Collin Grove, Blaine Clovers; Kylee Weber, Maple Huskies; Taya Phillips, Ida High Achievers and Jaycie Vohs, Ida High Achievers. The “I Dare You” award went to Claire Sohm of the Maple Huskies and Lexi Phillips of the Ida High Achievers. Ida High Achiever Evan Else received the Ak-Sar-Ben award. Herdsmanship awards went to Blaine Clovers for beef; Grant Champions and Maple Huskies tie for sheep; Battle Bad-

gers for swine; Maple Huskies for horse; Battle Badgers for goat; tie between Battle Badgers and Blaine Clovers for poultry and Grant Champions for rabbit. The Logan Hotshots won the best fair booth award and the Lester Freese Traveling Trophy attendance contest award for the highest attendance at the awards program last year and the fair clean-up days. Evan Else (Ida High Achievers) and Autumn Rohlk (Blaine Clovers) were the recipients of Ida County 4-H Foundation Scholarships. The Grant 4-H’ers and Logan Hotshots were recognized for 4-H’ers for 4-H recognition. These clubs supported the 4-H’ers for 4-H campaign last year. These clubs donated $3 per member or more toward the campaign. Receiving the club leader of the year award was Kristal Phillips of the Ida High Achievers. Other club leaders recognized were Peggy Gebers (Battle Badgers), June Knop (Blaine Clovers), Anne Zobel (Grant 4-H’ers), Joe Redenius (Grant Champions), Martha Boyle and Phillips (Ida High Achievers), Trisha Hoffman (Logan Hotsthots), Melissa Friedrichsen and Jenni Sohm (Maple Huskies) and Teresa McMillen (Clover Kids). Adult awards were presented to Melissa Lockwood (alumni award), Melissa Friedrichsen (honorary 4-H member) and Hawkeye Fabrication (meritorious service). Robert L. Butcher was recognized for induction into the 2017 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. Iowa State Fair participants recognized were Margo McMillen, Tayden Redenius, Anna Van Dusen, Kansas Petersen, Grace German, Taylor Oldham, Madison Schreiber, Bree Henningsen, Emma Endrulat, Hannah Weeda, Jaycie Vohs, Sophia Van Houten, Taya Phillips, Ethan Zobel, Travis Wiese, Hannah Yockey, Ahren Van Dusen, Tate Phillips, Elizabeth Zobel, Abigail Else, Mallory Moore, Collin Grove, Kolton Knop and Elliott Bengford. Adult awards: Every year, numerous people are nominated in four categories: alumni award, honorary member, meritorious service award and the leader of the year award. The alumni award is awarded to a past 4-H member who has continued to support 4-H after graduation. The honorary member is awarded to a person who has supported the program even though they were not a member of 4-H. The meritorious service award is given for outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty. And the leader of the year award is given to a leader who is nominated by 4-H members.
