Brett Suchla, Consumer & Commercial Sales When you think fall you generally think: cooler temperatures, football, hunting, etc. But in the equipment industry we think: fall cleanup and snow removal equipment. Here at Mid-State Equipment we have what you need to make your life easier and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy fall in Wisconsin. From Stihl chainsaws and blowers to Giant Vac blowers and vacuums to zero turns and tractors with bagging attachments and mulch kits. Brush cutters can tame a jungle! It is unbelievable how you can go into a waterway, field, or woods, and with little effort, cut a large area in no time at all. My family loves walking or ATV’ing around in the woods. With a brush cutter it is very easy to maintain the trails and keep them safe. Mid-State offers brush cutters for skid steers, compact tractors and even walk behind models for rental. Stop in today or give us a call for more information on the unit that fits your rental needs.

The MT52 unit is the unit I favor the most. With its compact size, versatility of attachments and big power these little bundles of tracked dynamite never cease to amaze me! Regardless if you are walking behind the unit or riding on the detachable platform, the size of the unit allow it to get into spots that the conventional skid steers and excavators can't. These units can utilize attachments including buckets, forks, breakers, augers, trenchers or vibe plows. Stop in and check out the Mini Track Loaders for yourself.

The walk behind trencher has the ability to fit in tight areas and handles sudden grade changes and slopes with minimal damage to the turf. It is great for installing irrigation, drain tile, and a wide variety of PVC pipe for underground drainage, down spouts, and catch basins. The trencher is capable of digging in multiple soil conditions. The maximum depth for this machine is 4' which is great for getting below the frost line. It cuts a 6" wide swath which allows for a wide variety of pipe and bundled wires.

My favorite piece of equipment in our rental fleet is the Towable Lift. This piece of equipment is a multi-purpose unit. From hanging siding to trimming trees, this lift gives you much more versatility than hauling your old ladder around. Not only that, these lifts are much safer than using a ladder propped up against something unstable. With your feet in the basket your job is sure to be done safely and quickly. Stop in or give us a call for more information. The reservation rates for lifts begin at only $225 a day!

My favorite piece of rental equipment is the mini excavator. It can be perfect for many projects at home or on the work site. Create a water feature. Move rocks and mulch around the yard. Dig new water, electrical, or drainage lines around the property. The mini excavator has many tools and attachments that can help with any project. We offer a wide range of sizes as well. The compact mini has a width of just 28 to fit through most doorways. You can rent these units starting at $200/day from most of our locations.

Precision Farming Update

Phil Moskal, Integrated Solutions Manager A few weeks ago we had a field demo with Active Implement Guidance or AIG. With AIG you have a StarFire receiver mounted on the implement and then something that actively steers the implement. That steering mechanism can be a steerable axle, coulters, a side-shifting hitch, or a steerable hitch. We had steerable hitches on hand from Protrakker and LaForge for our demo. During our demo, customers were able to observe that around corners and on side hills, the hitches helped the implements stay on the AutoTrac line better than without them. We noticed on one simulated headland pass, when the AIG was turned off, the planter drifted off the line almost 20" compared to when AIG was on. This difference can represent a significant increase in yield if you are in a striptill application. Another application for this is pulling a side-dress applicator on a side hill or curve track. With a non-steerable hitch, navigating around a curve in standing crop almost always results in running some over. With a steerable hitch, you can eliminate some of that because you can keep the tractor and implement between the rows. AIG does require SF2 or RTK accuracy for the tractor, but with Signal Sharing, you can put an SF1 receiver on the implement and it will “Link to have the same accuracy as the tractor. If you are interested in learning more about what AIG can do in your operation, please contact Eric Kell or myself.

Product Spotlight - 2016 John Deere Equipment Updates Marty Mumm, Janesville Ag Sales

For model year 2016 John Deere has some exciting new products along with some improvements to their existing product lines. I have heard conversation in the large horsepower 4x4 marketplace inquiring about a certain style of tractor. The question had been simple and specific. When will John Deere produce a 4 track version of their 4x4 tractor? May I now introduce to you the latest tractor to John Deere 9R family. The 9RX. How many times have you heard “good things come to those who wait?” Well, the wait is over. John Deere may not have invented the 4 track 4x4, but they definitely have innovated it. The large cast upswept axle allows a larger drive wheel along with proven sealed mid rollers to put the 470-620 engine horsepower to the ground. This tractor will be more efficient, productive, and reliable than anything on the current market. Keeping the production levels high while keeping inputs low is what the e18 Transmission with efficiency manager does best. Working in conjunction with a John Deere PowerTech PSS 13.5L or Cummins QSX15 engine, this transmission works automatically through all field conditions to maximize production levels while minimizing fuel consumption. Partner an optional 115 GPM hydraulic flow and you will be able to run the large implements covering big acres in less time. As with all 9R family of tractors, you can also put an optional 1 ¾ 1000 pto on it. Operators are sure to enjoy the comfort of the air cushioned CommandView III cab and CommandARM with 4600 CommandCenter as standard equipment. This makes long days feel much shorter. Cabs can be optionally equipped with premium sound, Bluetooth interface, HVAC, MP3, 8

satellite radio and leather seating to give the operator unmatched comfort. Combine those options with ITEC, LED lighting, and Greenstar AMS products and your operators are sure to remain comfortable day or night. With the addition of the 9RX to the 9R family, John Deere has exclusively become the only OEM in the marketplace that can provide a wheeled, 2 track or 4 track 4x4 solution. This completes a 4x4 lineup that will provide the power, productivity, operator comfort, and reliability today’s operator expects. When entering fall it is hard to not speak of combines and front end equipment. The big news out of the harvesting factory is the addition of a folding option on the John Deere 612C. This corn head will be available in Stalkmaster or non-chopping configurations with the convenience of being able to fold from the cab. Daily harvesting production is estimated to increase 30 acres per day when compared to a traditional 8 row head.

9RX

9620RX Enhancements are also coming on the 30', 35' and 40' flex drapers. They include a wider belt, and faster speed for the center section, increased durability of reel fingers, and a shorter divider to reduce grain loss and crop knock down. Improvements to the S series combine have been done in the cleaning area. The Dyna-Flo Plus cleaning shoe is built with an additional six louvers in the sieve area, increasing corn cleaning area by nearly 10%. Optional Active Terrain Adjustment system is now available for those customer wanting their combine to automatically compensate for rolling terrain. Also available this fall is Harvest Mobile. Working directly with an iPad tablet or smart phone, customers will be able to view in-depth information on field performance and have Interactive Combine Adjustment capabilities. The all new FT4 compliant 6E tractors will step into the spotlight produced by their 6D predecessor’s. With new levels of performance and comfort, these 3 available tractors are sure to impress as well. Building off the popularity of the higher speed transmissions in some of John Deere other tractor families, the 6E will offer a 24F/12R PowerReverser 40K transmission with Hi/Lo. This will be a 25 mph tractor, which will be a huge advantage in getting from farm to field quicker with this economical tractor. John Deere has also enhanced their nutrient application portfolio with the introduction of the 2510H Hi-speed bar with dry application. Keeping with their 4R theory of product application this applicator will allow customers to apply from the Right source, at the Right rate, applied at the Right time while being in the Right place. For specific information on any of the model year 2016 innovations or enhancements from John Deere, please follow up with your Mid-State Equipment salesperson.

Fall Parts & Service Jay Goninen, Corporate Aftermarket Manager Thank you to everyone that was able to attend our Combine Clinics in Janesville and Columbus. We had some great crowds on both days, which really makes all the work that goes into a Clinic worth it! We worked at making each session performance focused. Each session was aimed toward either making or saving you money. While some of the information can be repetitive in hopes of refreshing your memory, we hope that the new information that was added will be of value to your operation. One of the new items that we introduced was John Deere’s “Go-Harvest” App. This app can be downloaded to your phone or tablet and contains information to help you get your combine set up for harvest. It gives you a flow chart on how to set up your combine according to what crop you’re harvesting. It contains a lot of the information found in your paper manuals, but is much easier to carry! Plus, the flow charts and photos make it easy to follow along. I’d encourage you to download and play around with this great tool.

Switching gears to our Parts Department, I’d like to remind you that we have several ways to get your parts in addition to coming into our stores. Though we love to see our customers in person, we realize that there are times where you just get too busy. For those times, we have Parts Salesmen, or CSRs, to cover a wide area. If you’d like to arrange for a CSR to stop out and see you, please let your Parts Department know and they can arrange a visit. We also have Drop Boxes located at various locations between our stores. These come in handy as we have a transfer truck that runs between stores on a regular basis and makes drops at these boxes as customers need. Lastly, you can go to JDParts.com, select Mid-State Equipment as your dealership, and place your order. We also have a link for this on www.midstateequipment.com. Check out our website and the Mid-State calendar to stay current on our Parts and Service specials. I hope you are having a safe and productive Harvest!

How do I perform calibrations in my 9X70 STS series combine? Answer: Several combine functions need to be calibrated through the “User Calibrations” tab in the command console. Calibrations need to be performed when connecting each header to the combine for the first time when preparing for harvest and after any John Spaight repairs during harvest. These calibrations include Prairie du Sac Service Manager Feeder House Speed, Threshing Clearance, Chaffer Opening Position, Sieve Opening, Corn Head Deck Plates, Moisture Sensor, Yield and Service Hours Reset. To access the “User Calibrations” on the command center display, Select the Diagnostic tab (4th tab from the left) by pushing the round command center button, until you get to the 2nd page in the diagnostic menu. Using the scroll wheel and check mark button on the arm rest, scroll through the drop down box and select the calibration to be performed. Follow the calibration instructions. Once completed you can continue normal operating. If a calibration fails, a fault code will appear. Have the fault code handy when calling your Mid-State service department and request further assistance from a technician.

Why do I have header loss on my grain platform ? Answer: When you see beans left behind from your header a good thing to look at is your sickle and guards. It is important to remember Jon Schroedl that your guards are just as Watertown Sac Service important as your sickle. They both work together in cutting the plant off. If one or both are dull it will shake the plant and tear the stem off instead of cutting It off. When it shakes the plant it will knock the beans out of the pod and cause header loss. It is important to remember that harvesting starts with your header. If your header isn’t performing properly then your combine won't either. 11
