Mid-America Christian University prepares students through a Wesleyan perspective to create, collaborate, and innovate to solve local and global problems for the glory of God through Jesus Christ and the good of society.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

On May 9, 1984, a group of visionary leaders from Gulf Coast Bible College and the Church of God (Anderson, IN) gathered in Oklahoma City to break ground on a new campus. The Shroyer farm, just south of the city’s airport and across the street from a public golf course, was the perfect setting for growth.

This year, Mid-America Christian University celebrates 40 years of offering students a Christian higher education in Oklahoma City. Standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us since 1953, we are preparing for the next generation of ministry leaders to be equipped and trained.

Many things have changed in 40 years with new buildings, new programs, and new faces. What has not changed is our commitment to providing a Christ-centered, biblical worldview in every class, every chapel, and on the courts and fields. Since our founding in Houston, our vision for preparing students through a Wesleyan perspective to serve the church and the marketplace has remained central to all we do.

Earlier this year, we gathered insight and ideas from students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, and many others as we dream about this next chapter. The result is a new

strategic plan entitled “The Place to Be.” The plan includes spiritual growth, program expansion, and resource development. Throughout this issue of the Mid-American you will see the early fruit of this plan and the dreams and projects underway for future growth.

As friends of the University, I am asking you to participate in three ways:

1. Please pray for our current and future students!

2. Please consider supporting MACU through your financial giving.

3. Please visit us on campus or online to see the great things God is doing.

This fall our residence halls and classes will be filled with students pursuing God’s call upon their lives. Stay tuned for more to come on the impact MACU is having now and in the years to come. Thank you for joining us in dreaming bigger and doing greater!

HERE WE GROW AGAIN

With surging enrollment numbers both online and on-campus, MACU’s student population is booming

MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY IS EXPERIENCING ANOTHER REMARKABLE YEAR OF EXPONENTIAL 10% ENROLLMENT GROWTH, both online and on campus, attracting students who are eager to advance their education, faith, and future careers.

Our student body is a vibrant mix of both on-campus and online learners, reflecting our commitment to providing flexible and accessible education. With a total enrollment of approximately 2,300 students, our diverse community is evenly split, with onethird attending classes on campus and two-thirds benefiting from the convenience and flexibility of our online, accelerated programs.

MACU has experienced historic growth in the number of students studying on campus, reflecting our enhanced facilities, engaging campus life, and signifying the vibrant and thriving community that students are eager to join and be a part of.

The significant growth in our online enrollment highlights the increasing demand for flexible learning options, enabling students to balance their studies with personal and professional responsibilities.

At MACU, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. Our continued growth and strong enrollment numbers are a testament to the trust and confidence that students place in our institution. As we continue to expand and evolve, we remain dedicated to our mission to foster a community that empowers students to achieve their academic goals and encourages spiritual formation.

This fall, enrollment on campus and online will increase 8-10% over last year as students decide MACU is “the place to be!” The distinctly Christian culture, strong academic programs, and successful athletic programs are some of the key factors leading students to choose MACU. Faculty and staff have worked hard throughout the summer to add classes, update residence halls, and create new spaces for fun and fellowship. We praise God

for bringing students to MACU as we continue our 70year tradition of training leaders for ministry in the church and the marketplace.

” PRESIDENT PHIL GREENWALD

A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE

This summer, MACU students impacted the world for Christ by participating in camp teams, completing internships, and even doing mission work in Belize.

1- MISSIONS IN BELIZE

“I recently went on a mission trip to Belize where I had the opportunity to serve the community of San Miguel through a Vacation Bible School (VBS), as well as sharing the love of Jesus with them through various activities and teachings. It was a transformative experience that deepened my faith and opened my eyes to a world in desperate need of Jesus.”

— Kenzee Danielson (‘24)

2 - CAMP TEAMS

“Camp teams was the greatest decision I’ve ever made; it helped me learn how to lead. It was a blessing seeing the love these campers had for Jesus. I can see that they want more of Jesus.”

— Lissette Moratoya, Sophomore, Ministry

3 - CROSSINGS INTERNSHIP

“This summer has been nothing short of learning opportunities and growing in knowledge! From capturing events on my camera, like the Regional CHOG Conference held at Crossings in June, snapping photos every Sunday morning at Crossings across multiple locations, or going on an adventure as a High School Sponsor while having the opportunity to take photos of all the activities, it has been a true blessing.”

— Claire Bailey, Senior, Digital Marketing/ Ministry Leadership Multidisciplinary

4 - SAINT JAMES, MISSOURI FIRST CHURCH OF GOD INTERNSHIP

“My time in a ministry internship this summer has brought me so much joy. I’ve had opportunities to serve in worship, youth, childrens, and production ministries, and it’s been a great time in all of it. There’s no better way to spend a summer than serving the Kingdom of Heaven with people who want to do the same.”

Ministry Leadership

5 - INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CONVENTION (IYC)

This July, we attended the 100th anniversary of the Church of God International Youth Convention in Orlando, Florida, where over 300 students responded to the call to ministry!

EVANGEL HIGHLIGHTS

Ashley Sullivan

Jasie Eischen

While some students spend their summers working on their tan, Jasie Eischen committed her summer to furthering her relationship with God through Kaleo, a nine-week training program that focuses on prayer, evangelism, spiritual leadership, dating and relationships, discipleship and more.

The Kaleo program also helps show the students how to balance their walk of Christ with working a part time job and having fun activities planned. Jasie explains, “I had the opportunity to work at Volcom in Disney Springs. It was super sweet to grow genuine friendships with my co-workers. Since I worked at Disney Springs, I got a free Disney pass and was able to spend any free time going to Disney Parks.”

Jasie is excited to return to MACU to begin her junior year fully equipped to share the word of Jesus in a new and exciting way.

During Ashley Sullivan’s lowest moment is when she came to trust and believe in God the most. As a Norse Pagan, marrying a Christian man caused tension in her marriage. But after surrendering her life to God, she has devoted her life to learning about Jesus and how to walk in His footsteps.

That’s how she found MACU — through many hours of prayer and her friend, a proud MACU Alum, who baptized her in a bathtub of a sober living facility. After growing up battling addiction, Ashley is already putting her Christian Ministries studies to work by volunteering with Jesus Gang.

“With Jesus Gang, we just get everybody together. We worship. We talk about God, our problems, how we can help people. There’s times that we take it to the street and minister. All we try to do is spread the Gospel. Because if people like us can change our lives, why can’t we give it to the other people in the streets or in the prisons?”

Ashley has fully given over her life to Jesus, has restored her marriage with her husband, lives a happy life with her children and is grateful to be continuing her education at MACU.

THE BIG REVEAL

The Evangels are entering a bold new era with a redesigned mascot that reflects our history and exemplifies our mission.

MEET YOUR NEW

Our updated Evangels mascot logo is rich with symbolism and meaning, deeply rooted in Biblical passages, historical quotes, and inspirational messages from University leadership. Derived from scriptures such as Luke 2:10, which speaks of bringing “good news of great joy to all people,” and Psalms 104:4, which describes messengers as winds and flames of fire, the mascot embodies the role of Evangels as bearers of the light and hope of Christ.

Historical reflections, including the 1962 Clarion yearbook’s depiction of a burning torch as a symbol of being “on fire for Christ” and spreading light in a world of darkness, further reinforce this theme. All five University Presidents also emphasized the mission of Evangels to take forth light into darkness during their tenures. Together, these elements create a powerful narrative for the mascot, representing the University’s commitment to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ

“The

new mascot image

represents

our

continued commitment to developing leaders who are guided

by faith. I hope this inspires Evangels of past, present, and future to take forth light into darkness.”

“As we unveil the new Evangel mascot, we celebrate a legacy of faith and leadership that challenges each of us to live a life of purpose. May it inspire us to be torchbearers of light and truth, impacting the world for God’s glory!” — Ashley Gotcher (G’19) MACU Alumni Association

— Gary Kendall (‘79, G’17)

“In the process of sharpening and realigning the brand of the University it was imperative that we find a better way to signify what it means to be an Evangel. The new logo provides spiritual depth, historical context and a fresh new look for all of us who call ourselves Evangels!”

“Our redesigned Evangel mascot is a powerful symbol of our mission to bring light and hope to the world, deeply rooted in Scripture and the legacy of our University. It represents our unwavering commitment to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ!”

— President Phil Greenwald (G’20)
