INVINCIBLE THE HELEN REDDY STORY

SUN

AUG 14 2PM

Hailed as the ‘Queen of 70’s Pop’ Helen Reddy was Australia’s very first international superstar, with three #1 hits on the US Billboard charts and six more in the US top 10. She sold over 25 million albums, starred in Hollywood movies, hosted her own prime-time show on American Television and played to sellout houses around the world. Then, all of a sudden, she lost it all. In 2020, the feature film “I Am Woman” brought some of Helen’s incredible life story to screens worldwide. In 2022 Australian singer and actress, Nikki Bennett, brings the whole story to Australian stages. Her iconic song, “I Am Woman” became the unforgettable anthem of the women’s liberation movement of the 1970s. But it is the rest of her story that is SO incredible… In this beautifully written and performed solo show, acclaimed Australian singer and actress Nikki Bennett, weaves Helen’s extraordinary life story though her biggest hits: I Am Woman, Delta Dawn, Angie Baby, Leave Me Alone, Ain’t No Way To Treat A Lady and I don’t Know how to Love Him …just to name a few.

“I hope the audience will feel a fresh sense of connection to a story that has already successfully infiltrated the psyche of the Australian theatre and movie going public and get a sense of joy and understanding of who Aboriginal people are and walk away from ‘The Sapphires’ with a smile on their faces”, said Tony. Four young Aboriginal women from regional Australia, who like singing country music, suddenly get the chance to change their tune and their lives. Wearing uniforms of sequins, armed only with microphones they find themselves trying to spread joy in the hell that is the Vietnam War. The Sapphires is a funny, heart-warming tale inspired by the true story of writer Tony Briggs’ mother. It tells of the incredible journey of a singing group of four Yorta Yorta Women, who sing classic soul hits against the backdrop of personal change and massive social upheaval. It is an energetic, fun, and engaging play that affirms life and the realisation of dreams. Meet and greet after the show.

MARK VINCENT It’s obvious that Mark has a deep connection to his devoted fanbase, the ones that have sent his albums to the top of the ARIA charts. It’s something he has never taken for granted, and he dedicates ‘In The Eyes Of A Child’ to those that have stuck with him throughout his career. Mark’s career to-date has been a series of extraordinary highs, things he never could have imagined when he stepped on the stage of Australia’s Got Talent at 15. After blowing us away with his stunning rendition of Puccini’s world-famous aria ‘Nessun Dorma’, he would go on to win the entire competition in 2009. In 2014 he made his musical theatre debut in Dirty Dancing, followed closelyww by being handpicked by Dame Julie Andrews to play Freddy Einsfeld Hill in My Fair Lady. In 2017 Mark recorded his tribute to his boyhood idol, the great Mario Lanza, featuring the groundbreaking virtual duet ‘Because You’re Mine’, with Mark singing alongside the legendary tenor. In the years since Mark has toured the UK with Katherine Jenkins, performing at iconic venues including London’s Royal Albert Hall and he has toured Ireland with Irish tenor Tommy Fleming. He has worked with Susan Boyle, Marina Prior and Anthony Warlow, and his Australian national tours are always sold-out affairs. His new album “In The Eyes Of A Child” marks an exciting new milestone in Mark’s journey, and he looks forward to taking you all along for the ride with him.

ONSCREEN FILM STRAIGHT LINE CRAZY Ralph Fiennes (Antony & Cleopatra) leads the cast in David Hare’s (Skylight) blazing account of the most powerful man in New York, a master manipulator whose legacy changed the city forever. For forty uninterrupted years, Robert Moses exploited those in office through a mix of charm and intimidation. Motivated at first by a determination to improve the lives of New York City’s workers, he created parks, bridges and 627 miles of expressway to connect the people to the great outdoors. Faced with resistance by protest groups campaigning for a very different idea of what the city should become, will the weakness of democracy be exposed in the face of his charismatic conviction?

“The excitement of circus at its best combined with the grace and choreographic line of dance, and the magical undercurrents of good theatre” THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

BACKBONE HIGH OCTANE CIRCUS The internationally renowned circus company, Gravity and Other Myths, takes the concept and perception of strength and (literally) tosses it into the air. In this “dazzling and warm hearted” performance (The Independent), individual and collective resilience is tested as the company tumble, backflip and walk across each other’s heads – Backbone explores the limits of emotional and physical endurance.

EDWARD THE EMU BASED ON THE BOOKS BY SHEENA KNOWLES & ROD CLEMENT WRITTEN FOR THE STAGE & DIRECTED BY EVA DI CESARE The award-winning creative team from Monkey Baa Theatre Company are back with a brand-new take on another muchloved tale, Edward the Emu. More than an adaptation, this is a unique imagining of two beloved picture books, Edward the Emu and Edwina the Emu, combining the plights of both emus in one heartfelt, clever and funny new tale. Edward is bored with his lot. Being the only emu at the zoo has left him feeling glum and under the impression that the grass is greener in everyone else’s enclosure. Maybe being a seal, or a lion, or a snake might be a better option in life for a lonely bird? Convinced that the other creatures are more popular, Edward breaks ranks and goes to find the fun and along the way, finds Edwina! Written for the stage by Monkey Baa’s Artistic Director Eva Di Cesare (Diary of a Wombat, Josephine Wants to Dance) we follow the emus as they hilariously navigate their own feathered existential crises, seeking to find their place in the world. Meanwhile, unaware of the birds’ internal worlds, their human keepers are in hot pursuit to restore order to the zoo. With exceptional, world-class puppet creation from Bryony Anderson and Alice Osborne’s puppetry direction, an original score from composer/sound designer Nate Edmondson, set and costume design by Isabel Hudson (Best Stage Design of An Independent Production, 2020 Sydney Theatre Award), lighting design by Matt Cox and inventive storytelling from Di Cesare, the emus’ journey of hijinks and tenderness leads them to discover that the best thing you can be is …. you! Monkey Baa Theatre Company has been creating classic, muchloved productions for young people for over 24 years. Edward the Emu carries on the vision to make theatre an intrinsic part of young people’s lives with the quality, humour and heart that has made Monkey Baa a favourite of families across Australia.

“ I absolutely love what you have done ... clever, quirky, and very original” SHEENA KNOWLES, AUTHOR EDWARD THE EMU & EDWINA THE EMU

“ Her voice is absolutely sensational” BRIAN WEST

This Is Me is the rags to riches story of the Legendary Dame Shirley Bassey performed by Internationally Acclaimed Artist, Actor and singer the beautiful Rachael Roberts. This is a stunning tribute to the magnificent girl from Tiger Bay, with all of the glamorous costumes, the honeyed Welsh speaking voice and of course, the fabulous powerhouse vocal that Dame Shirley is so famous for. After paying tribute to her heroines Judy Garland, Edith Piaf, Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, Bette Midler in various venues around London (Café De Paris, The Pheasantry, Madame Jojo’s, Volupte), Rachael decided to concentrate upon a dedicated tribute to Dame Shirley Bassey. Songs and hits include I Am What I Am, Diamonds Are Forever, Kiss Me Honey Honey, Something, Get This Party Started, This Is My Life and of course, the show stopping Goldfinger.
