Meet the MEC team

The MEC is powered by the initiative and dedication of a talented team. Every week we strive to go above and beyond to ensure that patrons and presenters alike are provided with positive and memorable experiences, and are keen to return time and time again.

At the end of 2023 the MEC team won the annual MidCoast Council Staff Recognition Team Award for exceptional service, professionalism and leadership. It was noted that “the team is trusted amongst peers and the community, and the high quality of customer service generates additional income and maintains a solid reputation with returning patrons. This is evidenced by the outstanding feedback the team receives in person and online after each production that is staged at the venue.”

For us it’s a point of both pride and pleasure to present great entertainment in a welcoming environment, as we strongly believe that a vibrant cultural backdrop develops strong communities and happier individuals. To borrow Shakespeare’s words: “To business that we love we rise betimes and go to ‘t with delight.”

Thanks for supporting our work and here’s to a great ACT 2 2024.

Shaun Parker & Company’s In the Zone

Presented by MidCoast Council

Hip-hop dance meets gaming technology in this ground-breaking new work by Shaun Parker & Company.

Conceived by award-winning choreographer Shaun Parker and digital sound designer Alon Ilsar, IN THE ZONE is not only fun and exciting dance theatre, but it also empowers young audiences to consider themes such as technology, man-made global warming, personal choice and resilience.

IN THE ZONE features captivating new technology called AirSticks, developed by Alon Ilsar, which create live sound through movement and features Western Sydney hip-hop artist Libby Montilla and choreography by award-winning director Shaun Parker.

With AirSticks technology in the hands of Libby Montilla, the audience enters the world of a video game through the dance forms of locking, popping, waving and body-ticking, inspired by the stunning soundscape which includes crunchy electronica, atmospheric strings, funky drum loops and the sounds of birds, ocean waves and nature - all intrinsically linked to Libby’s outstanding body animation and storytelling in a bravura solo performance.

IN THE ZONE takes gaming and escapism as a point of inspiration and celebrates the spectacular worlds that we can explore with technology today. It also provides young audiences (and the young at heart) with the insight that they are much more in control of their own emotional responses than they think they are.

A perfect show for the entire family, with adults enjoying the show just as much as their children.
