Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to the 2010 Northwood University International Auto Show, the largest new car, outdoor Auto Show in North America. This year our theme is “Electrify the Drive, Sparking a Global Revolution.” Our theme not only concentrates on the race to solidify an electric vehicle, but also focuses on how the car manufacturers want you to feel when you enter their car. They want you to feel something exciting and new, to give that “wow” feeling. Also, it is no longer just a race between the normal heavyweights of the automotive arena. There are new cars coming in from Europe, China, and new manufacturers’ in the U.S. It is also a race to see how costs can be reduced, miles per gallon increased, and quality increased in the process. The vehicles that we have on display this year show the manufacturers dedication to those standards. We have over 60 manufacturers displayed this year and over 500 cars. This show simply does not “happen” every year. This year a 12-member Executive Board led the show, and has been working hard for the past 10 months. From there students serve as captains and team members for each vehicle brand. The show is run in a corporate structure, with students filling all of the positions from the top to the bottom. We have over 600 students working the show this weekend, doing everything from serving food, parking cars, and working the displays. We have averMidland’s Premier Art Gallery aged over 50,000 guests per weekend over the past 3 years and we are hoping to present the Voted The Best Place to Buy Original Art show to at least that many people this weekIn the Tri City Area. Administration Welcome Welcome to Northwood University’s 47th Annual International Auto Show. This is a very special weekend for us and we are very happy that you are part of it. As you may know, we pride ourselves on doing things a bit differently at Northwood. As a business school, we offer a rigorous curriculum that equips our graduates with the knowledge and skill sets required to lead organizations across industries and markets. While we employ traditional resources and tools to accomplish this goal, our mission includes a commitment to offer much more than lectures and examinations. Indeed, we provide our students numerous opportunities for leadership development and experiential learning as well as the chance to grow and share with people from around the world. Our annual International Auto Show is a prime example. The largest new car outdoor event in North America, Northwood’s International Auto Show features over 500 new cars vehicles and hosts some 50,000 visitors. The three-day event also generates an estimated $2.5 to $3 million in economic impact for the Great Lakes Bay Region economy. That does not include the millions of dollars it inspires in auto sales following the event. As you can easily imagine, an event of this magnitude requires a great deal of planning and coordination. That is why we take such pride in pointing out that it is organized and managed entirely by Northwood University students—over 600 of them—from our different degree programs; and none of them receive payment or credit for their participation. All this points to something else that makes us unique: The Northwood Idea. There are a number of fine business schools throughout the world today. Very few, however, offer degree programs that incorporate the virtues found in the Northwood Code of Ethics, values such as: integrity, respect, honesty, responsibility, freedom, empathy, spirituality, and achievement. Very few are built upon the belief that free markets and free persons are the primary foundations of a vigorous economy. At Northwood, we practice a healthy skepticism of large and powerful government because we think history has clearly demonstrated that such structures move rapidly from being of the people to being over the people, and freedom is lost in the balance. In an era when many pundits claim that capitalism is dead and that the government is the driver of the economy, we think the principles of The Northwood Idea are more important than ever. As more and more people look for sound leaders capable of restoring the American Dream, we at Northwood University are doing all we can to educate them in the classroom and through learning and fun-filled experiences such as the International Auto Show. for 18 years, including serving as NAPA president from 1998-2004. Handschuh began his career as an outside salesman at Mighty Auto Parts where he rose to the position of vice president of sales and marketing.

Ronald McEachern General Manager of Suburban Chrysler Jeep Dodge

Steve Handschuh is the president and chief operating officer of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) and vice president of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). AASA, a market segment association of MEMA, exclusively serves and represents North American aftermarket product manufacturers. As AASA president, Handschuh provides general oversight of all the association’s organizational management. He represents its members on critical business issues by generating dialogue, education, and action, which help provide a stronger, unified voice for aftermarket suppliers. Additionally, Handschuh provides leadership, direction, and administration for all aspects of AASA activities and works closely with the AASA Board of Governors to maintain a strong focus on providing services and programs that address industry issues and offer members opportunities to advance their business. An automotive aftermarket industry veteran of more than 30 years, Handschuh served as senior vice president, commercial, at AutoZone. In that position, he was responsible for more than $700 million in sales through more than 3,500 stores. Prior to AutoZone, he worked for NAPA AUTO PARTS/Genuine Parts Co. PAGE 6

Ron McEachern started his automotive career in 1976, working as a porter for Roger Penske Chevrolet. He graduated from Birmingham Brother Rice High School in 1978 and went on to study Automotive Marketing at Northwood University. He graduated in 1982, earning a BBA degree with a dual major in Marketing and Management. His first job after graduation was with a company called Oakleaf Corporation, a computer company that specialized in finance and insurance productivity. He was then promoted to Project Manager with his only focus on improving the F & I processes of Southeast Toyota Dealerships. In 1984, McEachern was offered a job with a fellow Northwood graduate, being given the opportunity to work at a dealership and learning every departmental responsibility. In the following 6 years, McEachern studied every successful sales process, eventually working with the likes of Jackie Cooper, Clint McGhee, and Bob Harrington. He eventually mastered several selling processes including “One on One,” “4 Square,” “APB,” and “10 Step Sales.”

In 1990, McEachern returned to his family in Michigan and soon began his career with David Fischer and the Suburban Collection. His first job with the company was to establish a team to launch the new Saturn Brand. The Suburban Collection eventually operated eight Saturn retail facilities under his management. The Collection’s largest store was in Troy and was the largest Saturn retailer in the world and the 3rd largest GM dealership in the country, retailing over 4,000 new Saturn’s in 2008. McEachern’s current position is on the Senior Management Team of the Suburban Collection acting as General Manager of several platforms in Michigan and Florida, including the brand new Suburban Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram store residing in the old Saturn of Troy building. McEachern is also involved with training and development with the entire Suburban management team. At home, he is joined with Pam, his wife of 27 years. They have 4 children, ranging from 22 to 15. In his free time, McEachern coaches High School Hockey and enjoys spending time with his family in Northern Michigan.

Denise Petitta

Senior Vice President, JP Morgan Chase Marketing Executive

Denise Petitta is Senior Vice President at JP Morgan Chase. She joined Chase Auto Finance over 17 years ago and has held numerous positions over her tenure including roles in credit risk, dealer commercial services, sales, product management and marketing. She was named National Marketing Executive in 2000 and joined the Executive Committee in 2006. She recently assumed responsibilities for Dealer Market Development focusing on growing Chase’s commercial and retail business.

Prior to joining Chase, she worked at GMAC for six years where she was part of the supervisor development program and held several operational and managerial positions including collections, credit, vehicle remarketing, and floorplan lending. Petitta holds a BS degree in Marketing and an MBA from Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. She has also attended the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. She has held officer positions with the Association of Consumer Vehicle Lessors and is a past member of the Consumer Bankers Association. In addition to her business responsibilities, Petitta participates in diversity and career development initiatives within JP Morgan Chase and is active in her local community. She and her family reside in Montclair, New Jersey.

Don Esmond

Senior Vice President of Automobile Operations for Toyota Motors Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

Prior to joining Toyota, Esmond had a 12-year career with Ford Motor Company, where he held various field positions including national account executive, assistant and general field manager for the Seattle Lincoln-Mercury District sales office, merchandising manager, and zone manager at the Los Angeles district sales office. Additionally, Esmond spent five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as captain, naval aviator, and helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, 45 Air Medals, and a Purple Heart. In 1999, Esmond received the prestigious Semper Fidelis Award from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (MCSF). The Semper Fidelis Award is presented annually to an individual who has displayed â&#x20AC;&#x153;dedicated and inspirational civic and community leadership.â&#x20AC;? Esmond was later named as a director of the foundation, which raises money and awards college scholarships to the deserving sons and daughters of U.S. Marines and the children of former Marines. In 2006, Esmond was appointed to serve on the Defense Advisory Board for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. He earned a BS degree in business and economics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Esmond resides in Corona Del Mar, California, with his wife, Cheryl. They have three sons, Mike, Dan, and Chris.

Don Esmond is senior vice president, automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc. Esmond is responsible for all TMS automotive operations, including the Toyota Division, the Lexus Division, sales administration, Toyota Logistics Services, Toyota Motor Sales de Mexico, and Toyota de Puerto Rico. Esmond joined Toyota in 1982 and served as corporate fleet and truck manager and national fleet manager. He became vice president of field sales for Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota, in 1989. He later served as vice president of the large car sales team where he launched the new Camry. He held the position of group vice president of the Toyota Sales Division and most recently, senior vice president and general manager, Toyota Division.

Ken Lingenfelter CEO of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering

Born the son of a General Motors executive, Lingenfelter grew up with a lust for stylish, high performance autos. Finding success in the real estate settlement industry, Lingenfelter procured his first Corvette in 1977. Additional cars were acquired as his passion for performance cars grew. Now, having sold his company, he has dedicated himself to assembling a collection of significant race cars, muscle cars, Corvettes, and exotic European cars from around the world. In 2008, his passion for speed and excellence led him to purchase the assets of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, a company founded by his distant cousin John Lingenfelter. Many of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering products have been instrumental in establishing performance thresholds. The talented team at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, as well as The Lingenfelter Collection, will continue to enhance the passion and create excitement among hot-rodders, racers and exotic car enthusiasts that reach far beyond their imagination.

Jill Lajdziak is president of smart USA, the exclusive distributor of the smart fortwo in the United States and Puerto Rico. Lajdiziak joined the Penske Automotive Group wholly-owned subsidiary in January as the next chapter in her PAGE 9

Executive Board Brandon Postema, General Chair n Brandon Postema is currently a senior pursuing a dual major in

Aftermarket Management and Management. He is the son of Brian and Lynn Postema of Alto, Michigan, and is a graduate of Caledonia High School. While attending Caledonia, Brandon was an active member of DECA, taking home both district and state medals for three straight years. Currently Brandon is involved in many on-campus activities including The Automotive Group, College DECA, and other volunteer activities including Rake-A-Difference Day and the Salvation Army Christmas Party. Brandon’s previous Northwood University International Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Infiniti in 2007, Captain of Performance and Customs in 2008 (which won the Best Aftermarket award), and Specialty Chair and Heavy Truck Chair for the 2009 show. Brandon looks forward to completing his final year at Northwood and plans on working in the aftermarket business after graduation.

James Hannah, Vice Chair n James Hannah is a senior pursuing a triple major in Entrepreneurship,

Economics, and Management from Algonquin, Illinois. He is the son of James and Debbie Smith and a graduate of Dundee Crown High School where he was a member of the track for two years and also a member of several clubs. His hobbies include traveling and being involved in outdoor activities. At Northwood James was an active member of the Entrepreneurship Society for two years. His past Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Maybach in 2007, Captain of Team smart in 2008, and Captain of Team Volvo/GMC Heavy truck in 2009. Upon graduation this year, James would like to move to Chicago and enter the corporate real estate market.

Tyler Marifke, Multimedia Chair & Marketing Communications Co-Chair n Tyler Marifke

is currently a senior pursuing a dual major in Entrepreneurship and Management. He is the son of Gerard and Mary Ellen Marifke of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and a graduate of Elkhorn Area High School. While attending Elkhorn, Tyler was a district medal winner in DECA as well as a state competitor, a district and state level award winner in various band competitions, plus a speech team captain/medal winner in district and state levels. While at Northwood he has been a part of the Competitive Speech Team, Circle K, and College DECA, as well as a former reporter, co-producer and executive producer for Northwood’s WebTV. Tyler’s Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Motorsports, Team smart, and Captain of Team John Deere, (which won two awards in 2009). He is looking to buy and open two businesses upon graduation.

Yan Zhuang, Chief Financial Officer & Marketing Communications Co-Chair n Yan Zhuang

is currently a junior pursuing a major in Accounting and the daughter of Liyan Liu and Aike Zhuang of China and Karen Wallace of Potterville, Michigan. Since her start at Northwood, Yan has involved herself in many campus-related clubs and activities including being president of Emerging Leaders and an executive board member of the Student Government Association. She was an active member in Circle K International and participated in many volunteer activities including coordinating the Salvation Army Christmas Party, Rake-A-Difference Day, and Rock the Mall. Yan has qualified for the President’s List for four terms and Dean’s List for two terms during her six terms at Northwood. Her previous NUIAS experience includes being a member of Team Mini Cooper in 2008 and Team Audi in 2009. She looks forward to concluding her college career at Northwood and intends to continue her involvement in the Auto Show until her graduation.

Leah Young, Special Events Chair n Leah Young is currently a senior pursuing a dual major in

Fashion Marketing & Management and Management. She is the daughter of Bruce and Amy Young of Kentwood and a graduate of East Kentwood High School. Leah has been involved in many different campus activities, such as Circle K and Fashion Group, and participates in volunteer activities regularly. She spends much of her free time working as a manager at a retail store in the Midland Mall. Leah’s previous Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Mini in 2008 and Fashion Chair for the 2009 Auto Show. Upon graduation, Leah looks forward to pursuing a career in the fashion industry either as a merchandise buyer, or in human resources.

Richard C. Griffin Jr., Special Projects Chair & Fundraising Co-Chair n Richard C. Griffin, Jr.

is currently a senior pursuing a triple major in Banking & Finance, Economics, and Management with a minor in Accounting. He is the son of Richard Griffin, Sr. and Sharon Pompey of Detroit, Michigan, and a graduate of Southfield-Lathrup High School. While attending high school, Richard was an active member of DECA, taking home both district and state medals for three consecutive years, and lettered in three varsity sports. Currently, he is involved in many on-campus activities including Minority Business Leaders, College DECA, Fashion Group, Finance Association of Northwood University, as well as other volunteer activities including Rake-A-Difference Day and the Salvation Army Christmas Party. Richard’s previous Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Infiniti in 2007 and Team GMC for the 2009 show. He looks forward to completing his final year at Northwood and plans on working in the financial and real estate investment business after graduation.

Ryan Confer, Logistics Chair n Ryan Confer is currently a senior pursuing a triple major in

Finance, Economics, and Management. He is the son of Russell and Mary Confer of New Lothrop, Michigan, and a graduate of New Lothrop High School. While attending New Lothrop, Ryan was an active member of SADD, PALS, varsity wrestling and football, winning two team state championships; one in wrestling (2004) and another in football (2007). He was also a two-time All-State wrestler and ranked in the top ten of his graduating class. At Northwood Ryan is an active tutor in the Timberwolf Learning Resource Center, member of the honors program, and involved in the Midland community by coaching the Midland High School varsity wrestling team. His previous Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Saturn in 2007, a member of Team Ford in 2008 (which won the People’s Choice award), and Captain of Team GMC for the 2009 show. Ryan looks forward to graduating in 2011 and plans on working in the financial advising business after graduation.

Nathan Arndt, European Chair n Nathan Arndt is a senior at Northwood University majoring in

Automotive Marketing & Management and Management. He is a 2007 graduate of Coal City High School in Illinois and is the son of Wayne and Lisa Arndt of Coal City, Illinois, and the brother of Nick and Kristen. Nathan has been active in the automotive industry since he was 16 years old and plans to continue his passion. At Northwood he is involved in American Marketing Association serving as vice president of professional development and leading projects. He is also the vice president of The Automotive Group. Nathan is involved in many activities on campus including Northwood University Computerized Automotive Retail Simulation and traveling abroad to Wolfsburg, Germany, as well as volunteering in many community events. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, boating, fishing, golfing, playing cards, and the automotive industry in general. Upon graduation, Nathan plans on beginning a career working for an auto manufacturer or a dealer group.

Joshua Struck, Speciality & Heavy Truck Chair n Joshua is currently a junior at Northwood

University pursuing a triple major in Finance, Economics, and Management with a minor in Accounting. He is the son of Charles and Dawn Struck and resides in Oakley, Michigan. Joshua is a graduate of Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw where he was involved in several sports and other extracurricular activities including a member of the Brady Community 4-H Club. At Northwood he is involved in the Finance Association, History Club, and intramural sports. Joshua’s previous Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Pontiac in 2008 and Co-Captain of Team Powersports in 2009 (which won the Best in Show award). Currently he is working at the Saginaw Conservation District Office and during school breaks he works at Michigan State University in maintenance. Upon graduation, he plans on pursuing a career in finance or management.

Lindsay Seigel, Aftermarket Chair n Lindsay Seigel is currently a senior pursuing a dual major in

Aftermarket Management and Management with a minor in Accounting. She is the daughter of Chris and Shelley Seigel of Yale, Michigan, and a graduate of Yale High School. Lindsay was very active with her high school’s cross country team and with Business Professionals of America (BPA). She is currently involved with several campus activities including being the president of BPA and a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. Lindsay has been very involved with the Auto Show including being a member of Team Chevrolet in 2007, winning Best Domestic, member of Team Motorsports in 2008, and Captain of Team Classic Car in 2009, which won Outstanding Performance. Upon graduation from Northwood in 2011, she plans on working in the aftermarket business. PAGE 13

Peter Hardy, Asian Chair n Peter Hardy is a senior majoring in Advertising, Marketing, and Manage-

ment and is the son of Herbert and Kerry Hardy of Midland, Michigan. Before transferring to Northwood he attended Case Western Reserve University for two years. Presently Peter is involved in the American Advertising Federation, Northwood University Economic Association, Students for History, and serves as a tutor at the Timberwolf Learning Resource Center. His past Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Hyundai in 2008 and Captain of Team Hyundai in 2009. After graduation, Peter plans on pursuing a career in media buying.

Shannon Corby, Domestic Chair & Fundraising Co-Chair n Shannon Corby is a junior majoring

in Automotive Marketing & Management and is the daughter of Dan and Patty Corby of Plymouth, Michigan. She graduated from Ladywood High School where she participated in many school activities. Shannon was the president of the Sign Language Club, a member of the Environmental Club, and captain of the varsity ski team. While studying at Northwood, she is the president of the ski club, an active member of The Automotive Group, and volunteers with many on-campus activities including recently starting up the Northwood University Sustainability Club. Shannonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s previous Auto Show experience includes being a member of Team Ford in 2008 and Captain of Team Ford in 2009.
