All of the SEAL classrooms feature similar techniques jointly developed by teachers. This includes "collaborative conversation" between pairs of students to develop oral skills, charts labeled with words to build vocabulary and frequent writing assignments. Extending the learning into the summer, the district offered a 10-day SEAL Summer Bridge Program at three schools which enabled students to get a jump start on the school year, providing exceptional learning opportunities for kindergarten through 3rd grade students. sations as teachers engage the students to talk about what they are learning, ask questions, and predict and wonder about their world. MVSD’s SEAL teachers use
rich, expressive language to create an environment where academic vocabulary comes to life. The class-

Anime Expo 2015 and Comic Con 2015
by Devette Johnson and Glen Maldonado Los Angeles/ San Diego
Wow, what a whirlwind for the past two weeks here at Mid Valley News and Mid Valley Radio. We had the privilege of attending the 2015 Anime Expo in Los Angeles and Comic Con in San Diego. Our adventure began with the 2015 Anime Expo. During our visit we were able to attend a few panels, view some amazing cosplay costumes and ate some great food at the large assortment of food trucks located in a parking lot across from the convention center. If you were able to attend the event you know what we are talking about; but if you weren’t we are going to do our best to describe our journey and share our experience with you. So hold on here we go. YouTube bloggers are popular and we ran into a couple from Buzz Feed before our day began Friday,
July 10. Our next stop was the Anime Music Competition; it’s a compilation of music dubbed with some of the popular anime. The selection of music ranged from techno, electronic, alt. rock and classical. Here are few artists featured (reference source sound hound). Some of the anime featured in the compilation are: “Full Aleck Me,” Yu yu Hakrio,” “Knight if Sinorina.” In the Drama and theatrical category was “Mento” dub, “Friends” dub, “English Rain” to the movie of the “Little Prince Returns.” "Hurricane" 39 sec to Mars, "Future Diary" anime," The New World," "The Wind Rises," "Echo," Jason Walker;" Anime : " Your Lie Out," “Kingdom Heart” compilation, music "Der Weirwolf Teil," "My Neighbor Figaro," “My Neighbor Senki;” Music: “Immor-

Summer Fun Family Summer Fun: Lake Tahoe by Jo Anne Disney Lake Tahoe
If you are looking for a place to relax and become one with nature, Lake Tahoe is the place to visit. This was the perfect way to start my summer vacation, leaving the traffic and stress behind. The breathtaking scenery and the fresh air filled with the scent of pine trees making it seem almost unreal.
duce a body of water the Evil Spirit would have to circumvent. But during the chase the whole branch was dropped in fright, creating Lake Tahoe.” I had the chance to drive around the entire lake, which is a total of 72 miles of the most spectacular sites you can imagine. This time of year kayaks, and
how the snowfall was last year. Everyone said it was minimal compared to other years. It seems the drought has affected everyone. But on the top of some peaks, I could still see a little snow. Lake Tahoe has something for the entire family. So if you are looking for some outdoor adventure or maybe some casino fun
boats as well as swimmers and windsurfers can be seen on the lake. The water is pristine and appears to have 3 different colors from aqua to blue gray and then a deep blue. The water in Lake Tahoe is said to be”97 percent pure, nearly the same as distilled water.” I asked local residents

Webb'S Rules LIVING LONGER by Eugene R. Webb
I finally realize why we're living longer; It certainly isn't because we're stronger. I think most of the doctors are the good guys; With the new research they are proven to be wise. The one thing we don't do is sit around and shrug; Most of us are too busy keeping track of our drugs.

I'm always surprised at what one little pill can do; I also know that they have been able to kill you. If we're really anxious to stay happy and survive; Doctors, and taking the medicine will keep us alive. I do know that happier is what I could possibly be; If my blood pressure would stop playing tricks on me. My wonderful wife and I want to make it quite clear; With God's love, the good doctors gave us more years. ‘Time Jockey’ Scorecard
Temple City USD Named Among the Best School Districts
by Joe Castillo
Thumbs …. History was made last month in the City of San Gabriel. After years of neglect, Las Tunas Boulevard was repaved from San Gabriel Boulevard east to the Temple City boundary. In addition to the new street repairs and paving, new landscaping and sidewalk improvements were included in the infrastructure upgrades. It has been too many years to count since the last repaving improvement on Las Tunas, which was consistent with the entire city as a whole. But with a beefier city budget aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure, more improvements are definitely in line to be scheduled over the next few years. I’ll give it a thumbs up on the repaving, landscaping and infrastructure improvements. If you’ve been along the Valley Boulevard corridor in San Gabriel, you’ll notice two new large lots which are getting ready for new building construction. The lot at the old Norm’s site at the corner of Valley and Del Mar, will be home to the new Hyatt Place. The lot at the old Jeff’s Sporting Goods and the Realtors Hall will be the new home of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Both hotels will have a large number of rooms bringing in new tourists who seek the many shopping opportunities centered along Valley Boulevard. Additional revenues will be brought into the city, but more traffic will congest Valley and the adjacent neighborhoods. The change from a small, quaint community to a more modern transient city, will forever change the face of the city. Thumbs down on a city plan focused on new business growth and away from community enhancement. The San Gabriel Trench grade lowering project is progressing along, perhaps slightly behind schedule. The project completion date of late 2016 is still very possible but much work still needs to be done. This month Del Mar and Ramona Avenues are closed with Mission, San Gabriel Boulevard and Walnut Grove remaining open. But traffic along the north-south streets continues to back up especially when the trains are running causing more frustrations for commuters. I know that someday this project will be com-
pleted, though I think it’ll be more like 2018; but for today you have to wonder what benefits this project will eventually bring to the city. It just seems like our city leaders are trying to correct a wrong which occurred nearly 40 years ago when the city council voted against lowering the tracks after Alhambra agreed to lower the tracks through their city. In my book, two wrongs don’t make a right and another thumbs down goes to the City of San Gabriel for increased traffic, heightened frustrations and a lot of head scratching….. Rainfall Final….. The official rain season came to good ending on June 30th. With a summer cloud cover and light sprinkles, the 2014-2015 rain season ended with 8.52 inches of rain in the Los Angeles area. The amount is the 4th consecutive year of subaverage rainfall amounts but you really have to look at the bright side. The 8.52 inches represents an increase of 2.44 inches or 40.13% over the 2013-2014 season. But the downside is that we were still 6.41 inches or 42.93% behind the average rainfall amount for the area. But I tend to look at the bright side and with June ending with possibilities of some measureable rainfall, let’s continue to keep our fingers crossed for continuing increases in rainfall amounts. If we continue on the same trend, we’ll have nearly 12 inches of rain this year, which will make all of our gardens and plants very happy …..

and their selection of music and the anime. If you are a true fan of anime this would be an event to see. Anime Expo is expanding every year and this year it reached more attendees then ever with over 90 thousand people; that is an increase of 12% from last year. With over 300 exhibitors there were tons of booths to visit and things to do. Hulu, Warner Brothers, Crunchyroll, Sony, Aniplex, FUNimation and many more were present at the exhibit floor. Anime Expo had a great selection of artists showing off their art work. They had rows and rows in artist alley and each person had a unique look of their art. Artist alley is where individuals get recognized for their skill in their art work and for the effort they have put in their work. It’s a chance for them to make a few dollars and to maybe get a job from some industry person attending. One interesting thing too was that FUNimation, a big anime company, allowed 2015 Anime Expo artists to allow usage of their characters distrusted by FUNimation. Artists were allowed to show their versions of what they think their favorite characters can look like through different artists. Anime Expo also hosted plenty of food trucks around the outside the convention
center and in the adjacent parking lot across from the expo and featured food from all over the world, but mostly Japan. The last couple of years we have been able to visit a local food truck from the SGV by the name of “Rolling Burger Barn.” My favorite was the Grilled Cheese truck. Overall, Anime Expo was a great event and I was able to see even Dragon Ball Z release new movie. Comic-Con is a lot bigger (It’s like Grand Father of all Anime Expos) then Anime Expo is back and it's crazy as always. Wednesday like last year is preview night which means only a limited amount of people were allowed to enter and given a chance to buy some ComicCon exclusive items. When I entered it seemed like it was a regular day; it was full and there were a lot of people. People were running to Hasbro, Mattel and many more booths for exclusives like the new Star Wars movie storm trooper action figure. Another hot ticket item was Mattel’s Storm Trooper Hot wheels, and Funko’s Star Wars Vinyl Pop Figures. Although Comic Con was only open Wednesday for 3 hours, it was an intense 3 hours. Thursday was a different story; it was not just busy inside but outside as well. Lines for Hall H
and for entering Comic Con first were around the convention center. People who didn’t succeed in getting their exclusively were trying today. Hall H Thursday went to “The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2.” Friday was a little different; Walking Dead and Game of Thrones dominated television but the true winner for Hall H was the Star Wars Panel. The cast new and old appeared for the panel but we did not receive a new trailer, but what we did get a comic con reel and a bit of insight from the characters from the actors. Saturday was the biggest day yet and it started with Warner Brothers showing us a new trailer for Batman V Superman, followed by a Suicide Squad appearance and trailer. That panel is probably the biggest event held at Comic Con. This was the beginning of our coverage for Comic Con 2015. There’s more to come next week. So stay tuned to hear about the Stan Lee, Dr. Who, some of the exhibits in the exhibit hall and more. Check out our photos posted on our website and our social media. We hope you enjoyed the ride. We are happy to share with you our experience at Anime Expo 2015 and Comic Con 2015. We hope to bring you more next year.
Anime Expo Interview with Kyle Herbert by Lucia Flores Los Angeles
As part of various activities on Day 0 leading up to Anime Expo (a convention held on July 4th weekend that celebrates Japanese animation and pop culture), Mid Valley Radio had the privilege of interviewing renowned voice actor Kyle Hebert. Mr. Hebert has voiced many characters throughout his career; several of his performances include the Narrator and Gohan on Dragonball Z, Ryu (Streetfighter) in Wreck-It Ralph, and an upcoming role as Capone in One Piece. Below are excerpts of the conversation with Mr. Hebert: Mid Valley Radio: You are very well-known in the voice acting industry, and you mentioned DragonBall Z. You’ve had so many roles in many great anime series…and I just read on your website that you will be playing Capone on One Piece. Kyle Hebert: Yes, Joel McDonald the director said, “If you are coming into town I’ve got a perfect character for you.” This is one of those things since I live in

LA and I commute back and forth from Dallas for work with Funimation from time to time, or for conventions or just to visit my folks… I’ve been so many pirates through the years on One Piece, and then Capone came along. MVR: For that character, specifically Capone, how do
you prepare for a role like that? Do you watch movies, mobster films? KH: It’s an interesting thing with anime because in voice acting in general there is no prep, there is no rehearsal, and the research is optional…I might know what series I am working on but once I’m in there, they
tell me what’s going on right before I record…Anyone in any sort of acting field, if they have taken acting classes, improve training, it’s just part of the job to think on your feet and be able to just craft something together really fast with very little or no information. Sometimes the director will
say, “I want you to voice this guy,” and they freeze-frame the image, “What do you got for me?” To see the full interview with Kyle Hebert, please visit the link at: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=jB9fyzOlxZ8 .

Galaxy Rally Takes Down Club America by Tim Peterson Carson
Serena Williams wins her 21st Grand Slam event at Wimbledon on Saturday. It’s amazing how long she has played at such a top level. I never thought anyone would last as long as Martina Navratilova did, but Williams is truly fantastic. She is also more interesting to watch, by far, than any of her male counterparts. If John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors could somehow be reissued then there could be some debate. However, for now in this time when I think of tennis I think of Serena Williams. Still there is something about tennis (which I used to watch on a regular basis) that is missing. Back in the day, I would stay up late and get up early to watch the Australian and French Opens. Liked it so much that I even considered giving my dog the name; Roland Garros. Maybe it’s the absence long rallies, maybe it’s too much of a power game, or maybe it’s because I got too old and busted to play it. I’m thinking I might have to give tennis a second look. ***The ESPY’s is tonight and I’m still having a hard time understanding the courage aspect of Bruce Jenner in drag receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. What courage is there in doing something that is not only widely accepted but enthusiastically supported? Courage is Lauren Hill, the late basketball player who passed away in April from brain cancer at the age of 19. Her desire was to play and raise money for cancer research. Hill stayed in uniform as long as she could and raised $1.5-million to help with research. ESPN has ignored her story completely. As the father of three girls I find ESPN, the ESPY’s, and the entire media insulting, disgusting, and sexist, in giving a courage award to a man in a dress. I’ve been done with ESPN for a long time and this is just another reason why.
***Happy Birthday To; 7/16: Former Temple City National President Mike Reed turns young. 7/20: El Monte alum and acappella choir member Carson Powers turns 59. 7/20: Arcadia alum/ Los Angeles Rams kicker Mike Lansford turns 57. 7/20: Legendary Arroyo quarterback Steven Rivera turns 21. 7/20: Mountain View Head Football Coach Victor Ambruso turns 36. 7/21: Longtime Rosemead Rebel coach & football fan Paul Barraza turns 59.
Alan Gordon’s goal in the 79th minute proved to be the game winner as the Galaxy rallied to beat Club America 2-1 Saturday night in the first match of the International Champions Cup before 27, 924 at StubHub Center. Gordon’s header that found the back of the net came off of a perfectly placed pass by Raul Mendiola in the front of the net. Gordon and Mendiola both entered the game in the second half as Coach Bruce Arena made wholesale changes at halftime. “It was a really good effort. I thought our whole group played well tonight,” Arena said. “I thought it took us about 15 or 20 minutes to get into the game but it was a really good first half.”

On an unseasonably cool Saturday afternoon, 24 teams took part in the “SGV Shootout” hosted by Arroyo. Buena Park won the tournament by beating
Crescenta Valley in the finals. CV beat Maranatha in the semis, Buena Park knocked off Arcadia to punch tickets to the finals.

The Buena Park victory is notable since so many of its coaches come from local schools. Head Coach Anthony White is a Rosemead alum. Offensive Co-
ordinator Jude Oliva went to San Gabriel. Assistant Coach Matt Lopez went to Temple City and fellow assistant Erick Elias hails from Arcadia.

The Peterson Principle By Tim Peterson
Okay, what’s going on at Arcadia? This isn’t your father’s Apaches. I saw them Saturday at the SGV Shootout at Arroyo and I didn’t recognize them. I had heard there had been some off season changes on Duarte Road but this wasn’t a change- it was an overhaul. I thought I was watching Long Beach Poly for a minute. There were athletes everywhere I looked. At receiver, running back, corner, safety, linebacker...everywhere on the field, there were big strong, quick athletes. The Apaches have struggled the last few years but this looks like a different team. “The program is moving in a different direction,” one local coach said. You think? It sure looks that way. It looked that way on the field as well as the Apaches advanced all the way to the semi-finals before losing to Buena Park. Look out for the Apaches in the Pacific. Don’t jump them over Crescenta Valley yet though. The Falcons, coming off of a Southeast Division title, made it to the Finals where they fell to Buena Park. Yeah, Buena Park won the whole thing. Who else? I’m sure the Coyotes managed to tick off a few more people in the process. Speaking of Long Beach Poly, Monrovia got a transfer in from LBP that looks legit. The Wildcats and Asaph Zamora didn’t look bad at the shootout but did manage to lose to Rosemead in four overtimes in the morning. The loss not only messed up Monrovia’s run to the championship game but also the time schedule. Montebello receiver Sergio Cortez made the catch of the day hauling in a onehanded touchdown grab Odell Beckham Jr. style from Ryan Rivera. Okay maybe Odell Beckham Jr. is an exaggeration, but it was the catch of the day. No, I didn’t get a picture. El Monte quarterback Edward Dominguez, fresh off of an offer from Dixie State, looked solid for the Lions. El Monte, with all of the distractions going on in the off season, has missed a lot of practice time but it didn’t seem to affect them or Dominguez on Saturday. Offensively, they were sharp. Running back Roy Brarajas was making plays all day long. Plus we really like the Lions new gear. I know you’ve heard this before, as recently as last summer, but Keppel didn’t look too bad. No I won’t predict a playoff spot or even an Almont League victory at this point. Last year I did and we
all know how that turned out. But I will say that the Aztecs are moving in the right direction. They are trying. This is the third passing tournament I’ve seen them at this year. No, I didn’t see Marcos Lopez Saturday. Heard plenty of rumors – some may be true and some not. Won’t say who gave me this but it was from a local coach. “You heard it here first. Kurt Scoby is going back to APU. Mark my words.” So if it doesn’t happen, hey, I didn’t say it. If it does you read it here first.

David Thach, Senior Director of International Software Development and Special Operations for Sony Worldwide Studios America, delivered the keynote address at the ceremony. Thach shared his career’s journey, revealing his triumphs and set-backs in life. He used the poem, “The Road not Taken” by Robert Frost as a focus of his speech and how it related in his life and his journey. Thach oversees some of the company’s largest and most profitable franchises, such as Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone, and Bloodborne. He also oversees the
and awards. David earned his Bachelor’s Degree from UCLA in Music. He is clearly a man who can wear many hats – one of which is a Red Hat Certified Engineer. Following the keynote speaker, were addresses by President, Dr. William Kakish and Provost Dr. Jon Persavich. Following Administrative speeches were student addresses by: Shawn Olandesca Flores, speaking on behalf of Business Programs; Laura Angulo, speaking on behalf of the Technology Programs; Betty Gallaher speaking on behalf of the Media Arts & Design, emphasis in Graphic Design and Andrew Thompson, representing the Media Arts & Design Program, emphasis in Game Arts & Design. Laura Angulo, is an unbelievable young lady that worked three jobs while attending school. Being in the Information Technology industry, she is one of very few women and has learned to soar in her field of study. Angulo’s goal is to become a Chief Information Officer. She spoke about the impact women have made on the world we live in today and how we have the ability to become successful based on our merits and not judged based on gender. Laura currently is employed with Wilcon, the premier West Coast provider of best-inclass fiber optic and data center infrastructure solutions helping to enable the digital future. “Today we gather as an eclectic bunch. Some, like myself, are the nerds that will troubleshoot and fix. Some are the artists that will envision, creating marketing collateral that will attract consumers. Others are the speculators that will reason, helping to keep this world functioning” said Angulo Shawn Olandesca Flores, was most notably known on
campus a student worker for the Student Services Department on campus. Flores shared his journey and transformation from closed minded new student to a graduate that welcomed all into his life. Flores opened us into his family, talking about the important role they played in him finishing his degree and his promise to his 96 year old grandmother who recently passed to complete school, support himself first before starting a family. “In the words of one of my favorite hip hop artists, Ab-Soul, “We’ll rise, change lives, break ties from the everyday lies, it’s not time until it’s our time,” and this is our time, because the best is yet to come.” said Flores. Lastly, Betty Gallaher, stood before her peers, delivering a speech that brought many to tears. She shared a glimpse of her life with all that attended, expressing the many obstacles she overcame: being the first in her family to graduate high school and now the first to graduate college. Leaving her life in West Virginia, to break the cycle and continue on with her dreams. She is a complete inspiration that anything is possible and that the box of crayons her parents bought her was worth it.
She is currently working for BC Design Haus, a strategic design & branding firm that specializes in meaningful brand and design solutions for start-ups and global companies. During her time at Mt. Sierra she won the Academic Excellence Scholarship and was on the Dean’s list for several terms. Betty will always be known as a great tutor for Adobe software. “Thank you to the Professors at Mt Sierra for always pushing not only me, but all of us to our limits and seeing what we couldn’t always see in ourselves.” said Gallaher. As eyes were dried, and friends and family applauded the heart-touching speech, the moment all anticipated finally arrived. Provost Jon Persavich, Ph.D. conferred the degrees, and Associate Dean of Academics, Tim Botengan read the names of the students aloud as they walked across the stage in their moment of glory. Graduates turned their tassels from right to left, symbolically officiating themselves as graduates of Mt Sierra College. Graduates exited the sanctuary in pride, as family, friends and all that attended cheered for the former students, whom are about to embark in a new beginning.

For the third straight year, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School students participated in a unique event, a polymath decathlon, spearheaded by AP English and film teacher Tim Marklevitz. "In high school, my friends and I competed in a series of good natured competitions in a variety of academic and athletic events," said Marklevitz. "When I joined the Cantwell staff, I approached then principal David Chambers with the idea of something similar for our students." The contest applauds students that excel in both
academics and athletics by pitting them against each other in a friendly, fun and fast-paced series of challenges to determine who is the fastest, the strongest and the smartest. Student selection is based on grade point average ranking and athletic involvement," said Marklevitz. "I offer invitations to the first eight senior student athletes on the list, and give them about three months to prepare for the event." This year, Marklevitz added a tug-o-war tournament and a math event, which "definitely increased the overall difficulty of both
the mental and physical challenges." "The Quiz Bowl is a fun and energetic event testing the students' knowledge of geography, world history, science, literature, current events and US government," said Marklevitz. "The car push is also a favorite because not only is it unique, the students have a crowd cheering them on." "At first I wasn't sure about this, but now that things are underway, it's fun," said one student. "I especially liked the shot put." "For me, I think the memory game was the toughest, along with the mile run,"

By the end of the day, the students were completely drained," said Marklevitz. "It took three years, but I believe I've found the perfect ten events that make this event what it is." Coming in first overall in the men's division was senior Rafael Munoz and, for a second year in a row, senior Sabrina Gomez took first overall in the women's division. rooms are vibrant and enriching with student-produced work adorning the walls. During the summer program, students had fun developing their skills while they studied thematic units focusing on insects in kindergarten, the ocean in 1st grade, the environment in 2nd grade and fossils in 3rd grade. Recognizing that strong partnerships between parents and teachers enhances the development of language, literacy and academic success, a special Gallery Walk was held at the conclusion of the program where parents and family members visited the classrooms to see first-hand what the students learned during the 10 days. Family members enjoyed exploring the classrooms and participating in a few activities with their child. “Learning about fossils from the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic periods was a lot of fun,” said Ivy, a proud paleontologist sharing her
expertise during the Gallery Walk in the 3rd grade classroom. “We got to do a lot of fun activities like digging in sand to find fossils, and excavating chocolate chips from a chocolate chip cookie.” In the 1st grade classrooms students were studying marine life and engaged in collaborative conversations about krill, octopus, rainbow fish, crabs, the ocean animals’ food chain and much more. “There are so many animals and plants in the ocean,” said 1st grader, Moises. “It was fun learning about them and what they eat. The environment was the focus in the 2nd grade classrooms as students learned about the Earth’s natural resources and the importance of preserving the Earth through reducing, reusing and recycling. They learned about the effects of air pollution, water pollution, global warming and deforestation. “We really have to do our part to recycle and protect our planet,” said 2nd grader Juan. “We made a lot of neat things out of recyclable items like a piggy bank out of a plastic water bottle.” Kindergartners were buggy about insects as they studied honey bees, dragon flies and lady bugs. “Honey bees have transparent wings and compound eyes,” shared a kindergartner at Cogswell School. “They make a buzzing sound and live in a hive,” she added. Although only 10-days, the SEAL Summer Bridge Program provided a tremendous amount of instruction.“The Summer Bridge Program was wonderful,” said Maria McCullough, Teacher on Special Assignment. “The teachers and students worked very hard and we even put on two workshops for our parents at all three schools. So much was accomplished over the course of the 10 day program and the students greatly enhanced their language development.” NOTICE OF FICTITIOUS BUSINESS NAME STATEMENT File No. 2015148406. The minions are back and this time they have their own film. The best thing you liked about “Despicable Me” is finally here, and specifically three minions Stuart, Kevin, Bob. Peierre Coffin returns to co-direct
locals as the Starlight Bowl. Built in 1950, it seats almost 5000 guests on both bench style seating and a lawn picnic area at the top of the hill. This wonderful facility hosts a fantastic summer concert series programmed to please
the most discerning of musical tastes. From mainline acts, to classic pop & rock to the most successful of tribute band acts that tour the country and the world. Having said that, it may surprise most that not many
Minions and he brings Kyle Balda to help him. Brian Lynch first time in the franchise wrote the film his previous work is “Hop” and “Puss in Boots.” Sandra Bullock voices Scarlett Overkill an evil villain who is hell bent on getting the queens crown jewels. Other voice actors
in the film are Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney and Steve Coogan. The film is about minions and how they have existed since the creation of earth and how they walked out of the ocean to help history’s biggest villains. The minions helped the T. Rex, Caveman, Egyptian Pharaoh, Dracula, and Napoleon but failed there masters accidently killed them. Because of their failures the minions decide to isolate themselves in Antarctica. Three minions are selected to find the minions a new master, Kevin, Bob, and Stuart. They leave Antarctica and begin their journey. The film is memorable and is very entertaining, if everything you like about Despicable Me was just the minions this is definitely your movie. The minions don’t speak English so this film had a difficult task of entertaining you without spoken words. But films like “Wall-E” is a good example that does not require talking. The story struggles to really make sense and it is difficult to follow but this is a kids film and that usually doesn’t matter. “Despicable Me” is still the more preferred of the film and Minions is just doesn’t live up to the hype without Guru and the lovable girls. Even though it doesn’t please me it is a kid’s movie and it will entrain them. Grade C award Level Critic’s Choice.
outside of Burbank are aware of the Starlight. This little secret may be a good thing if you are local to the city but if you are an outsider, this inside information is something you need to put on your calendar. This past weekend the incredible Beatles tribute band, The Fab Four made their annual summer stop at the Starlight and performed to a sold out crowd in what could only be described as a rockin Beatles concert. The band was energetic, loud, note-for-note perfect and the audience danced their hearts out. Selected bands still to come in the Starlight’s summer concert series for 2015 are “Flock of Seagulls,” “Led Zepagain & Heart Attack,” & “Smash Mouth.”
The Starlight also is host to a great deal of civic functions, high school graduations, and private bookings. For more information on the Starlight and directions to the theater visit www. starlightbowl.com. To keep up with the tour schedule of The Fab Four, visit their website at: thefabfour.com.
