FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
World Championship Blacksmiths return in 2011
MADISON, WI, November 3, 2010 This old saying is very true, and illustrates the importance that the blacksmith plays in the world of horses. The age-old art of the blacksmith will be a featured event at the 2011 Midwest Horse Fair速. On April 15-17, blacksmiths from all over the country will gather at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis., for the Midwest Horse Fair速 and the chance to compete in a regional competition of the 2011 season for the World Championship Blacksmiths. The blacksmith competition, presented by Structures Unlimited, LLC, has been invited back to the Midwest Horse Fair速 for a third year. The 2010 competition consisted of 35 blacksmiths, who traveled from all over the country to exhibit their talents in this demanding trade, and compete in several different categories throughout the weekend. The overall winner was Travis Koons of Romoland, California. World Championship Blacksmiths has produced the first ever series of qualifying horseshoeing competitions that lead up to a National Championship. Mercury Match Play is a fun competition both for the competitors and spectators. Truly meant to warm up the competitors, it pits one competitor against another in double elimination, preparing them for the official rounds of the competition.
Competitors will make horseshoes from a stock piece of steel to the judge’s specification. These are all timed events and each round of competition will feature 10 competitors, so there will be blacksmithing a minimum of four hours each day. Visitors to the Midwest Horse Fair® will find all the fun and competition under the big yellow and white striped tent. It is fun to watch, educational for both the competitors and spectators. World Championship Blacksmiths provides the 10 stations, complete with equipment. This allows flexibility and convenience for horseshoers to travel to any of the competitions. In addition to the World Championship Blacksmith competition presented by Structures Unlimited, LLC, the Midwest Horse Fair® offers a full weekend of events for both the professional and new horse owners, as well as those who just love horses, families and individuals. There are demonstrations, speakers, shopping opportunities, and plenty of entertainment. For more information on the Midwest Horse Fair® visit www.midwesthorsefair.com. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Trick horse to perform at Midwest Horse Fair ® When he was 16 years old, Derrick Dupler wanted a horse more than a car. His dadgave the OK, and ever since, Dupler has been in love with the idea of his dream horse. That dream came true in the form of Rhia, a Morgan mare. Dupler and Rhia will both make a return appearance at the April 15-17, 2011 Midwest Horse Fair® held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. With the 2011 theme of “StarGrazing,” the Midwest Horse Fair® will be another opportunity to let the stars of the horse industry shine. While Dupler waited over 20 years, his dream finally came true. Rhia is big, black, bold, beautiful and over the past eight years, she has taken Dupler places he never even imagined they could go. The kids call this mare, “Princess Rhia.” The adults use words like “the amazing trick horse.” Watching this pair perform is more than the high-energy excitement, the honest respect, or the great big fun factor; it is the inspiration of seeing the deep trust bond between a man and his awesome horse that makes these shows worth seeing again and again. “Rhia and I have been entertaining audiences of all ages with our demonstration of equine excellence for over six years,” said Dupler. “We have been featured in newspapers, magazines, and television all over the country with our humorous and artistic painting horse shows. It has been our honor to raise funds for many charities and to perform for so many different events.”
Dupler added they are further blessed to help others train their own horses to be better mannered, drive carriages and learn some fun tricks. Throw in a nice carriage and sleigh collection for hire with Rhia always pulling more than her own weight, and Dupler said he has a dream job… a dream life … and a young boy’s dream come true. Dupler invites everyone to the Midwest Horse Fair® to “come see the horse, hear the story, and enjoy the show.” The Midwest Horse Fair® is owned by the Wisconsin State Horse Council, Inc. All proceeds from the Fair are returned to the WSHC and are used to represent and foster a unified equine industry in Wisconsin, promote the equine through leadership, education, service and communication, and to take a proactive role in the future growth and development of the equine industry.
