Olympic Coach and Author Jane Savoie Joins Presenters for Chicagoland Equestrian Lifestyle Expo November 20-21

Jane Savoie (Wellington, FL) will join equine industry leaders in presenting programs at Horsemen’s Council of Illinois’ Chicagoland Equestrian Lifestyle Expo & Holiday Market. “As an Olympic coach, international competitor, author of five books, and sought-after speaker, Jane will motivate, inspire and educate you,” says Joy A. Meierhans, Expo manager. Sponsored by Purina Mills, Expo will be November 20-21 indoors at the new Expo Center at Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake (Chicago), IL. The Expo Center can accommodate booths and seminar areas but cannot accommodate horses, hence Expo’s strong focus on education and “All Things Equestrian” shopping. Savoie was the 2004 and 1996 dressage coach for the Canadian 3-Day Event Team in Atlanta and Athens. She also coached several top dressage and 3-Day Event riders for the 2000 Olympics, and while in Sydney she helped U.S. rider Susan Blinks win Bronze for the U.S. team. A member of the U.S. Equestrian Team since 1991, Savoie has represented the United States in competition in Germany, Holland, France, Belgium and Canada. She was the reserve rider for the bronze medal-winning Olympic dressage team in Barcelona in 1992. Savoie has written five books and collaborated in eight additional titles. Her books have been translated into French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Polish. In addition to giving attendees the opportunity to learn from experts (the 2009 Expo included 50 presentations), the expo will present “all things equestrian,” for current horse owners and the one in three households wanting to own or ride a horse in the future, according to Horse Industry Alliance research. Steve Kenyon, communications specialist for the University of Wisconsin’s College of

Agricultural and Life Sciences, called last year’s Expo “the best equestrian education opportunity,” he’d ever se en. Kenyon and his wife participated in a hands-on session learning about leg wraps, “Different wraps for different reasons.” Program details for all topics, presenters and times will be available at the Expo website www.HorsemensCouncil.org. “Whether you’re looking for feed, tack, togs, a barn to house them – or just a good time learning more about horses and every aspect of the equestrian lifestyle – you’ll find it at Equestrian Lifestyle Expo,” Meierhans said. “Last y ear’s expo included more than 100 different vendors, some with what looked like everything from their brick and mortar locations,” she said. “The shopping is set up across the 65,000-square-foot Expo Center floor, with learning opportunities and fun activities in dedicated seminar and game areas,” Meierhans said. “This is ‘not your father’s ’ horse fair; we’re including programming you just won’t find elsewhere,” she said. Vendors will offer English and Western tack, clothing for all breeds and disciplines; feed, supplements, health care products; facilities, equipment and stable supplies (barns, stalls, fencing, waterers), trailers and vehicles. Holiday gift items will include jewelry, paintings, prints, sculpture, books, videos, stationery, home/barn/lounge accessories – even chocolates in the shape of horse heads. Part of Expo’s programming format will be roundtables – literally – where attendees can spend 15 minutes at a table with an expert before moving on to the next table, topic and expert. Think of it as speed dating with the pros. The Lake County Fairgrounds Expo Center is north of Chicago in Grayslake, IL – west of I-94 and south of Gurnee Mills and Six Flags Great America. It is at the intersection of Peterson and Midlothian Roads, located ½ mile west of US 45 and ½ mile east of IL 83. One-day tickets are $8; two-day $14. They may be purchased on the web site with a credit card or at the door (cash only). For information on Expo visit www.HorsemensCouncil.org or call toll free 1-866-3849161. For information on exhibiting, contact Joy Meierhans at (630) 557-2575 or . JM@TheMeierhans.com For attendees who wish to extend their weekend, Chicagoland has lots to see and do. Expo also has arranged excellent rates at host hotels in the area. Horsemen’s Council of Illinois, voice of the horse industry in Illinois, is affiliated with the American Horse Council and is the statewide association of equine organizations and individuals working to provide centralized leadership for Illinois’ horses and horse owners, and its multi-billion-dollar industry.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Gaited horse expert “stars” at the Midwest Horse Fair® Since 1980, Larry Whitesell has been known as a renowned gaited horseman, with success in the show ring -- winning regional, national and grand national championships. In 2002 he was trainer of the year. He has held judges cards in several gaited breeds. This celebrity in the gaited horse world will be one of the “stars” to attend the Midwest Horse Fair® on April 15-17, 2011. With a theme of “StarGrazing,” the 2011 Midwest ® Horse Fair will be rolling out the red carpet for many of the top names in the horse industry. This annual equine expo is one of the nation’s top equestrian events and will be held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. Initially, Whitesell trained using the traditional gaited horse methods, thinking these were the only way to yield gait. As his training progressed, he wanted to train gaited horses to a higher level so they would gait for any level rider and the riders could count on them to be safe and dependable. In his quest to learn correctness and lightness, Whitesell began studying classical dressage in the early 1990s from contemporary masters who had studied under Nuno Olivera and at classical schools in Europe. He continues his education each year from classical dressage instructors in both training and riding. Whitesell travels the U.S. and Canada doing clinics and equine expositions. His goals are to help people understand what makes gaited horses gait so they can spare the horses from some of the training myths attached to the gaited world that are not in the best interest of the horse.

This trainer teaches riders how to help their horse to relax so they can teach a correct response to subtle cues. His clinics are a shot in the arm for any riding program, providing very intense instruction to all levels of riders that instills an eagerness they will carry with them to help further a riders relationship with their horse at home. Started in 1979, the Midwest Horse Fair速 has been continuously growing, with a strong focus on education and high-quality entertainment for individual horse owners, families, and those who just love horses. Over 500 exhibitors offer unique shopping and educational opportunities. Demonstrations and ongoing entertainment, along with hundreds of clinics, seminars, and events throughout the weekend offers something for everyone. The Midwest Horse Fair速 is owned by the Wisconsin State Horse Council, Inc. All proceeds from the Fair are returned to the WSHC and are used to represent and foster a unified equine industry in Wisconsin, promote the equine through leadership, education, service and communication, and to take a proactive role in the future growth and development of the equine industry.
