WELCOME FROM THE MIFO BOARD OF DIRECTORS Dear Film Family, Welcome to our 7th Annual MiFo LGBT Film Festival, Fort Lauderdale. Our new name, MiFo LGBT Film Festivals, represents both Miami AND Fort Lauderdale, bringing everything together under one unifying name for the first time in our 17-year history. Broward is home to an amazingly vibrant LGBT community, and our goal has always been to host a world-class Film Festival worthy of such a fabulous community. Our growth has matured from a one-weekend event to a Festival that now spans ten days, covering two full weekends, and we are very proud to have expanded our Board to 18 members, with the majority from Broward. We know that the only way for MiFo Fort Lauderdale to continue its incredible growth is to have the LGBT community expand its participation, and that is clearly what is underway. We urge you to JOIN and to get involved in our quest to make Fort Lauderdale a significant part of the LGBT worldwide Film Festival community! I want to thank our wonderful Board of Directors, all of the committee people that work all year to make the two festivals happen, our incredible staff headed by our new Executive Director, Victor Gimenez, our extremely supportive Sponsors, and all of you for attending and helping to spread the word. Please share our emails, “like us” on Facebook and share our posts with your friends, as our greatest path to success is through each and every one of you. Thanks and enjoy the Festival.

WELCOME Dear Film Family,

Welcome to the 2015 MiFo LGBT Film Festival 7th Annual Fort Lauderdale Edition. As you may have heard, we have combined the names of the Miami and Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festivals into MiFo LGBT Film Festival, with a Fort Lauderdale Edition in October and a Miami Edition in April. MiFo is a special organization. An organization where we bring together the best in LGBT films of the year to foster a sense of community. Where we come together to laugh, cry, learn, and be engaged with stories that we care about and stories we identify with. MiFo is where we come together with old friends and meet new ones. One of the great little pleasures in life is being at the cinema and the entire audience gasps together, laughs-out-loud together, or is entirely engaged in what is on the screen. It is a communal experience unique to film. And what better way to follow-up that experience than to immediately talk about it with your friends and fellow audience members. The MiFo LGBT Film Festival is that experience. This year’s theme is UNITED WE FILM - united in our love of film, united in our community, and united in the stories we want to watch, learn, and feel. We are also UNITED as a Festival Family: Members, Audience, Filmmakers, Community Partners, Volunteers, Board, Staff, and Sponsors. I’m Victor Gimenez, the new Executive Director of the Festival. And I’m looking forward to spending time with and meeting each of you during the festival. Whether you have been a part of the family for a while or you are a new member attending your first festival, welcome to the reunion that is the MiFo LGBT Film Festival. All The Best, Victor M. Gimenez | Executive Director On behalf of the Board, Staff and Volunteers 8  |  www.mifofilm.com

LGBT home movies dating back to the 1930s creates a visual history of the LGBT community . As these films are found, happy full lives that existed behind closed doors are seen for the first time . Couples whose love spanned many decades are documented in films of vacations, dinner parties, and intimate moments . Along with these personal moments, footage of political and social movements also highlights the importance of the conservation of this material and the struggle to save it before they are lost forever .

Maurice, an attractive 18-year-old French boy with a murky past, arrives in New York with no place to stay . Kim and Betty, who run the hip underground club Bizarre, give him a job along with room and board . The Bizarre becomes Maurice’s new family, and he adapts to its eccentric world of outcasts as he begins a disturbing relationship with the bartender, Luka, who also has a mysterious background . But the world of the Bizarre is an ephemeral refuge, and it isn’t long before Maurice’s past catches up with him .

With two beautiful, young daughters and a house in the suburbs, married couple Trish and Deb Murdoch have built what should be a perfect life together . But their relationship is threatened when Trish’s ongoing grief over the death of her father coincides with Deb’s attraction to Jamie, the mother of their daughter’s classmate . Anchored by strong performances from its three leads, it’s a touching study of one couple’s struggle to navigate the trials that life throws .
