Mike Chen I believe that good design is “good design” when it can fit effortlessly into our life. It is a response to real human behaviors. Design is beautiful when it is simple, yet meaningful. Less is more.

Trapeze
2012 Product Design Organizing Hook System
I wanted to create a simple but useful design in the everyday living environment. Young, urban apartment dwellers usually throw away a lot of furniture and possessions every time they move. The main reason for that is the size of the object is not worth to move around and with city life, free space is definitely valued. So I want to design organizing system that is simple, space-efficient and useful: a hook system that can replace a closet full of coat hangers. My goal was to create a design that considers its users.

Demonstration Video ........................ This is a simple clean organizing hook system to have in the environment. It is design with the ideal of easy and useful for people to have in their living space. A organizing system that doesn’t take space and easily to attache or remove on the wall surface.

t.v 茖 2011 (new american design) t.v 茖 The idea behind this design is to revive the television's place in a room as a piece of furniture instead of an appliance. Instead we buy furniture to put the TV on, instead of seeing it as standing alone as a piece. I wanted to give the television character, and looked at a lot of television sets from the 1950's. I based my idea on that aesthetic, but used a modern and minimalistic approach. The remote control is a simple dial. There is one big button for the power, and the dial turns left or right for adjust the channel or volume. This is to support the minimalistic approach of "less is more". When not in use, the remote fits into the space on the top right of the TV. tv = furniture = clean modern

The remote control fits into a slot on the television when it is not being used, imitating the dial on vintage 50’s television sets. The design emphasizes simplicity, with only one big button that you can turn to adjust volume and to switch between channels.
Speakers on the front and back of the television are indicated by the holes on the surface.
The television’s legs bring back the idea that it is a piece of furniture, instead of just being an electronic addition to the room.
The two antenna on the top are actually switches that you can push left and right to change different input modes.

flow. P It is a basic flower shape with clean over all structure. It is a lighting design project based on the natural, organic shape of the flower. The center contains LED lights, which illuminate the flower and defines the edges, giving a peaceful and serene feeling.
In this busy and stressful time, with people always rushing about the city, of course many forget to observe and appreciate the beauty around them. It makes people careless and apathetic towards many things, big and small. Once people get home, however, they will slowly feel more at ease, because home is the safest place. It is only now when people will notice the things around them, such as the smell, or the taste. fLoW.P is meant to be displayed in the home, its design is to bring back the outside natural beauty into the home, and give people a relaxed feeling, bring them back down from the stress out outside.

Plastic materials creates an interesting relation with the LED light. The edge of the plastic light up . It shows the overall form’s outline by the edge of the light. Lace cover with metal wire sheet. The texture of the materials has an interesting negative space with the light.
Polystyrene. The light can not go through the object cause of the material. However, the negative space of the object could develops more. Non-Slip Mat with plastic bags inside. The overall texture gives an really interesting feeling in a vision way.

GoGo Project

G.G cake 果
( branding/packaging design)
Specializing in traditional Taiwanese pineapple cakes, Go Go Cake is an online dessert/food products gift shop. (ilovegogocake.com) “Go Go” (果菓) is a verbal play on the characters for “fruit” in Chinese, and the logo is similarly inspired. The overall feel of the brand is to be bright and fresh, bringing something new to the existing traditional market for pineapple cakes.
. Pineapple cake packaging . . The target audience is mostly females (age of 25+) . . Wih traditional Asian culture but in modern way . . The (golden) pattern of the cover was inspired from the surface of pineapple . . The graphic of the bags are Chinese characters of pineapple cake . . Has right sense of quality as a gift .
