ANTHONY G. COLLINS • PRESIDENT

urrently serving as Clarkson's 16th president, Anthony Collins is a regional and national advocate for higher education - industrial partnerships that couple research discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise

for commercialization and economic development with a focus on advancing sustainable energy solutions and environmental technology innovation. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo appointed Dr. Collins in July 2011 to serve as co-chair for the North Country Regional Economic Development Council. Dr. Collins also serves on the Moreland Commission, established by Governor Cuomo in November 2012 to investigate and study utility companies’ storm preparation and management; and to recommend reforms to overhaul regulation of the entire system to better deal with emergencies. He is the also the president of the Seaway Private Equity Corporation that invests in new technology companies based in St. Lawrence County, New York, and serves on the board for (TSEC) The Solar Energy Consortium, which mobilizes related resources in New York State; and is a member of NYSERDA’s Technology & Market Development Advisory Committee which provides technical and policy guidance to NYSERDA on energy and environmental research and market development initiatives. In service to the higher education sector, President Collins is the chair of the National Association of Independent Technological Universities and a chair emeritus of New York’s Commission of Independent Colleges and Universities. In addition, he serves on the boards of the CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity, the NYS Business Council, and on the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environment and Energy Systems. Dr. Collins was among the primary architects of the Vision of a Clarkson Education that has guided evolution of the curriculum since 1995. As president, he now leads Clarkson’s Evolution to Excellence, a comprehensive strategic plan elevating the University’s academic reputation, strengthening its financial resources, and increasing the lifetime engagement of alumni and greater Clarkson community. Growing up outside Melbourne, Australia, Dr. Collins earned an undergraduate civil engineering degree from Monash University, and then master’s and doctoral degrees from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked for both Australian Consolidated Industries and Utah Development Company. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1982, Dr. Collins launched his career at Clarkson, in Potsdam, N.Y., as an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering. Subsequently rising to the rank of professor, he also assumed increasing levels of administrative responsibility, including department chair, dean, vice president for academic affairs, and provost. He was elected the 16th president of Clarkson University in 2003. He has received awards for outstanding teaching, research and advising, lectured globally and is the author of more than 90 professional publications. In addition to connecting with Clarkson alumni across the globe, Dr. Collins; his wife, Karen; are active in the Potsdam community and have provided volunteer service to numerous organizations and youth programs.

STEVE YIANOUKOS • DIRECTOR INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS

t e v e Yi a n o u k o s w a s n a m e d Clarkson University’s Director off Athletics in August 2005. The Potsdam,, NY native, who became the University’ss eighth athletic director, has been actively y involved with Clarkson’s Department off Physical Education, Intercollegiate Athlet-ics and Recreation since his undergraduatee days at the University in the early 1970s. “Steve has played a key role in thee Department of Athletics’ many successfull initiatives and I am confident that underr Steve’s leadership the department will continue to progress,” stated Clark-son President Tony Collins upon announcing Yianoukos’ appointment. He had been the Associate Director of Athletics since 1997 and beforee that was the executive officer of Physical Education/Recreation from m 1984 to 1997. Yianoukos has overseen Clarkson’s Division III athleticss programs, managed all home Division III athletic contests, monitored d NCAA/Liberty League institutional policies and sports guidelines, and d led fund-raising initiatives for the department, including the Green and d Gold Club, Athletic Annual Fund, Athletic Hall of Fame and the Athleticc Alumni Council. Yianoukos graduated from Clarkson in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in n industrial management. He served as the facility manger for the Town off Potsdam’s Pine Street Arena from 1972-1977 and was named the town’ss recreation director/facility manager in 1977. Yianoukos also worked ass a Zamboni driver in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. He wass inducted into the Potsdam High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. He is involved in numerous local professional and civic organizations.. Yianoukos and his wife Joyce, are long time residents in the Potsdam m community, they have two grown children, Fia and John, and severall grandchildren.

SCOTT SMALLING • ASSOCIATE AD/DIRECTOR of A CHEEL CAMPUS CENTER/ CHEEL ARENA

long time director of Clarkson's hockey facilities, Scott Smalling was named an assistant athletic director in January 2006. Smalling has served as the Director of the Cheel Campus Center since October of 2002. He previously held the position of Arena Director at both Walker Arena and Cheel Arena from 1987-1996. In his duties as Associate athletic director, Smalling oversees the operations of the men's and women's hockey programs, fundraising and promotions for the Clarkson Athletic Department along with supervising the Sports Information Office. He also continues as the Director of the Cheel Campus Center, which includes overseeing the overall operation of the 4,000 capacity w Cheel Arena. Before coming to Clarkson, Smalling worked for the village and town of Potsdam, serving as the Director of Potsdam Recreation. He also acted as the Director of the 5,000-seat Pinebridge Coliseum in Spruce Pine, NC, where he handled the public relations and scheduling for the Pinebridge w Bucks Atlantic Coast Hockey League team in 1983. Smalling has also B served as an assistant coach and head coach for Clarkson’s baseball team, and was the head coach for the Potsdam Central School’s Varsity baseball team from 1985-87. t From January 1996 until October of 2002, Smalling was employed by A. A Cappione, Inc. where he was responsible for all aspects of promotion, public relations, sales and merchandising in retail industry. Smalling, who p makes his home in Hannawa Falls with his wife Mary Jane. They have three m grown sons, Steven, Patrick and Scotty. Smalling is a 1980 graduate of Brockport State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management B

THE UNIVERSITY

larkson University was founded in 1896 as a memorial to Thomas S. Clarkson, successful entrepreneur and Northern New York businessman who was also distinguished by a deep and abiding concern for humanity. When Thomas Clarkson died as a result of an accident in his sandstone quarry, his sisters, Elizabeth, Frederica, and Lavinia established a memorial to his name by building and endowing an institution that would embody his philosophy. Clarkson's original motto, “A Workman That Needeth Not to be Ashamed,” is taken from Thomas S. Clarkson's favorite biblical verse. Clarkson's colors, green and gold, were selected because the goldenrod was Thomas S. Clarkson's favorite flower. The first classes at the Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial School of Technology were held on September 2, 1896, for 17 young men and women. In 1913, the charter was amended, and the name was changed to the Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial College of Technology. Steady growth and development resulted in the New York State Board of Regents designating Clarkson a University on February 24, 1984.

POTSDAM Known as the “cultural and educational center of St. Lawrence County,” Potsdam is a warm and neighborly community, rich in heritage and tradition while involved in exploration of cutting-edge technology. Several of the town’s earliest homes and public buildings were constructed of Potsdam sandstone, which was so abundant at the time the town was first explored for permanent settlement. CHEEL CAMPUS CENTER

egarded by many as among the finest college hockey facilities in the country, Cheel Arena has proved to be an ideal venue in which to watch some of the best men's and women’s hockey that the NCAA has to offer. “Cheel Arena is one of the showcase hockey arenas in the nation, and a great tribute to all the players, coaches and staff at Clarkson University and the ECAC,” stated former ECAC Commissioner Clayton Chapman. The Campus Center provides the University with a 110,000-square-foot student center and multipurpose arena. A major gift commitment from Helen Snell Cheel resulted in the building being called the Cheel Campus Center. The arena features a regulation ice surface measuring 85' x 200' and approximately 3,000 individual backed seats, reached from sloping aisles. Every seat offers unobstructed sight lines to the ice surface. The arena will accommodate an additional 400-900 spectators in the standingroom areas along its perimeter. Five spacious carpeted dressing rooms for Clarkson's women's and men's teams, and visiting teams, plus a complete training room, a fully equipped weight room, players lounge, and coaches’ office, as well as storage and skate-sharpening areas, are included in the lower level of the complex. The upper level features a hospitality suite that overlooks the arena surface from center-ice. Highlighting the arena high above center-ice is a Fairplay board 14’by 13’-- 48” by 60 “ full color for animations, pictures, and message center. In addition to hosting some of the finest hockey in the Northeast, the multipurpose arena also serves the entire Clarkson community, which can congregate in one place for convocations, commencement, concerts, and other events.. This facility is located on the hill campus, adjacent to the CAMP Building, Snell Field and the indoor Recreation Center. Final design of the Campus Center was conducted by Daniel F. Tully Associates Inc. of Boston. Construction began June 15, 1990, and was completed in late August 1991.

In their first 10 seasons as an NCAA Division I program, the Clarkson women have posted 118 wins on their home ice. “They did everything right—the whole thing,” exclaimed Len Ceglarski, former Clarkson and Boston College head coach, at Cheel’s opening. “They really needed a student union and a new rink, and this is going to be a great tool for them. iring the first husband-and-wife coaching tandem in college hockey has certainly proven to be the right move by Clarkson University. On April 8, 2008, Clarkson University Women's Hockey ushered in a new era with the appointment of Matt and Shannon Desrosiers as the new co-head coaches of the Golden Knights Women’s Hockey team. The first five seasons for the co-head coaches has been a resounding success. The Desrosiers have guided the Green and Gold to a 103-63-22 record, including a 67-30-13 mark in ECAC Hockey play, five consecutive appearances in the league playoffs, including three home-ice berths, two conference tournament championship showings and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. Last season, Clarkson enjoyed its best season ever in the 10-year history of the program. The Green and Gold skated to a school-record 28-10 overall mark and tied for second in the ECAC Hockey standings with an 18-4 league record, their most wins ever in conference play. Ranked among the top teams in the country throughout the season, the Knights advanced to the ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament and made their second appearance ever in NCAA postseason play. The Desrosiers, along with assistant coach Matt Kelly, have brought to Clarkson some of the finest student-athletes in the country. Numerous Golden Knights have earned all-star recognition along with excelling in the classroom and playing a prominent role in community service. Matt Desrosiers was an assistant coach for the Knights two seasons (2006-08), while Shannon Desrosiers has been with Clarkson's Division I program since its first season in 2003-04, serving as an assistant coach for the first five years. No stranger to ECAC Hockey or the North Country having played at St. Lawrence, Matt Desrosiers joined the college coaching ranks after playing professional hockey for several years. He has an exceptional hockey background, both in college and professionally, and is very familiar with ECAC Hockey. Matt Desrosiers focuses on on-ice systems and also is strongly involved with recruiting. A four-year standout on defense at St. Lawrence University from 1997-2001, Matt Desrosiers helped the Saints reach the Frozen Four as a junior and gained ECAC and All-America honors as a senior. The Fort Erie, Ontario native was also named an ECAC Robbins Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2001. Matt Desrosiers played five years of professional hockey after graduating from St. Lawrence in 2001. He played in two East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) All-Star games (2002, 2003) representing the Dayton Bombers and the South Carolina Stingrays. He played two seasons in the Central Hockey League (CHL) and helped lead the Colorado Eagles to the 2005 President’s Cup Championship. A top forward for St. Lawrence from 1999-2003, Shannon Desrosiers has been a significant factor in the Knights emergence as one of the top teams in ECAC Hockey and a respected program in the NCAA. Shannon has been very instrumental in bringing to the University some of the top recruits in the country. Shannon handles the majority of the off-ice aspects such as recruiting and public relations. Shannon Desrosiers finished her collegiate career as the Saints’ fourth all-time leading scorer, amassing 123 points on 44 goals and 79 assists through 138 games. Serving as a captain in her senior campaign, the Fernie, British Columbia native tied for the team lead in points and assists, recording 38 points on 13 goals and 25 assists through 35 games. She was named St. Lawrence’s Best Defensive Player her senior season. Shannon is an avid runner who has placed among elite runners in several marathons, including the Boston Marathon. She has also taken up the sport of triathlon and competed in several Ironman races. She was the top amateur female competitor and ninth female overall to finish the 2010 Ironman Canada. Shannon participated in the 2010 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Matt and Shannon make their home in the Potsdam area with their young daughter, Brynlee Matison Desrosiers.

eginning his sixth year as an assistant coach with the Golden Knights, Matt Kelly has played a prominent role in helping establish the women’s hockey program at Clarkson has one of the best in the country. Through his first five years with the Golden Knights, Kelly has been very instrumental in the success of Clarkson's Women's Hockey. Since the 2008-09 campaign the Green and Gold have skated to a 10363-22 record, including a 6730-13 mark in ECAC Hockey play, five consecutive appearances in the league playoffs, including three home-ice berths, two conference tournament championship showings and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2010, 2013). Kelly has also helped to bring to Clarkson some of the finest student-athletes in the country. Numerous Golden Knights have earned all-star recognition along with excelling in the classroom and playing a prominent role in community service. His responsibilities included designing and implementing a comprehensive goaltending practice as well as providing one-on-one goalie specific training. He is also responsible for all aspects of video breakdown and analysis as well as maintaining academic support for the team. He joined the Clarkson staff after spending the 2007-08 campaign on the women’s hockey coaching staff at Quinnipiac University. Prior to that, he started his coaching career at Wayne State University in Detroit where he was the volunteer assistant coach during the 2006-2007 season. Kelly was a four-year member of the Wayne State men's hockey team as a goaltender, serving as a captain during his senior campaign in 2005-06, and earning team MVP and CHA All-Star honors. He played three years of Junior A hockey in the United States Hockey League prior to his collegiate career, splitting time between the Cedar Rapids Roughriders (1999-00 and 2000-01) and the Topeka Scarecrows (2001-02). A native of Hull, Massachusetts, Kelly graduated from Wayne State in 2007 with a BS in media arts and studies. Kelly and his wife, Brooke, make their home in the Potsdam area with their young son, Colton, and baby daughter, Makenzie.

We are looking forward to Tad working with our student-athletes. I am sure he will do an outstanding job." Johnson comes to Clarkson from the University of Minnesota where he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach since January 2012. While with the Gophers he worked with numerous athletic teams, including men's and women's hockey, implementing strength and conditioning programs along with performing and managing all athlete testing and tracking "We are very excited to have someone with Tad's credentials and experience working with the hockey programs at Clarkson," said Shannon Desrosiers. "He comes from a very successful program at the University of Minnesota and knows what it takes to win at this level. His knowledge and passion for strength and conditioning as well as nutrition will surely be a great asset to our student-athletes." In 2012-13 Johnson played a key role in helping the University of Minnesota's Women's Hockey team build the endurance and strength to complete a 41-0 season with the 2013 national championship. Johnson has also worked with former Gopher professional athletes in hockey, swimming and basketball. "Joining the Clarkson Hockey programs is a very exciting opportunity for me", stated Johnson. "It is an exciting time to be a Golden Knight. The passion of the University and the town for Golden Knight hockey is outstanding. Coaches and administrators dedicated to helping the athletes reach their individual and team goals is what every strength coach is looking for, and I have found that at Clarkson." Johnson holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Performance and Fitness from Northern State University (August 2010) and a Master's of Education degree in Applied Kinesiology (May, 2012) from the University of Minnesota. Johnson and his wife, Alycia, make their home in Potsdam with their young son, Jacory.

ig things are expected by the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team this winter. With talent, experience and depth at every position the Golden Knights, under sixth-year co-head coaches Matt and Shannon Desrosiers and assistant Matt Kelly, have high hopes of challenging for ECAC Hockey and NCAA supremacy in 2013-14. All but two veterans return from last season’s team, which posted a school-record 28-10 overall record that culminated in the Knights’ second NCAA playoff appearance in the past four years. Clarkson finished in a tie for second in the ECAC Hockey standings with an 18-4 league mark, just one point shy of the top spot. The Knights will strive to lift their play to a higher level this winter and have a solid nucleus of 16 veterans, including seven standouts who participated in Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp this past August, to lead the way. A promising group of four freshmen along with a talented redshirt sophomore will add to Clarkson’s lofty potential. The Knights will face a challenging schedule in 2013-14, including eight games against teams that skated in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. In its 11th season of NCAA Division I hockey, Clarkson opens the

34-game slate facing off against College Hockey America’s (CHA) Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Saturday, September 28 for the first of 20 regular-season games at Cheel Arena. Clarkson then faces archrival St. Lawrence University in back-to-back non-conference games. The Knights battle the Saints in Potsdam on October 4 for the first of four meetings against their North Country neighbor, followed by a game in Canton on October 5. Clarkson, which has qualified for ECAC Hockey postseason play in each of its first nine years in the highly competitive conference, opens the 22-game league campaign at defending conference champion, Cornell on October 25.

Along with battling the Big Red twice, the Knights will also play two games each against 2013 NCAA Tournament participants Harvard, Mercyhurst and North Dakota. Another highlight on the Green and Gold’s schedule this winter is a mid-December outdoor game against RIT at Frontier Field in Rochester. GOAL: Two-time ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) is back for one more season in the Clarkson crease and should be one of the best netminders in the country during her senior campaign. defensive effort in 2012-13 playing the second most minutes in the country (2217:21). She played more minutes than any other ECAC goaltender (1315:38) and posted the most wins in the conference (18). Howe ranked among the best netminders in Division I with a .931 save percentage and a 1.73 goals against average. Clarkson’s all-time winningest goaltender with 59 career victories, she posted the second most wins in Division I last winter with a 27-10 overall record, including six shutouts. Junior Jenna Boss (Little Canada, MN) and freshman McKenzie Johnson (Eden Prairie, MN), will also push for playing time. Johnson was a standout at Eden Prairie High School where she served as captain last year. Junior Emily Horn (Hamilton, ONT) will redshirt this year.

DEFENSE: With five skilled veterans and a promising freshman patrolling the blueline, Clarkson has the potential to boast one of the top defenses in the country. The lone senior on the back end, Vanessa Plante (Riviere-du-Loup, QUE), along with juniors Jennifer Shields (Ingersoll, ONT) and Daniella Matteucci (Fruitvale, BC) give Clarkson three knowledgeable defensive-defensemen. Three of the more imposing players on the Knights’ roster, Plante, Shields and Matteucci provide an intimidating presence in front of the net. One of Clarkson’s top shutdown defensemen, Plante plays a physical style, but can also provide some offense. She scored three goals last winter and posted a +10 plus/minus rating. Shields, Clarkson’s rookie of the year in 2011-12, has steadily gained experience and

will be called upon to play a prominent role this season. She skated in all 38 games last year, posting a +14 plus/minus and four assists. Matteucci is a versatile skater who can play a role up front and on defense. She dressed for all 38 games last year, recording two goals and two assists. She will be counted upon to log plenty of minutes this winter. One of the preeminent all-around defensemen in the country, sophomore Erin Ambrose (Keswick, ONT) is coming off an exceptional rookie campaign and promises to be even better in 2013-14. Classmate Renata Fast (Burlington, ONT) played a lot of big minutes in her freshman campaign and steadily emerged as one of the Knights’ most reliable blueliners. Ambrose enjoyed the best season ever for a Clarkson freshman last year. She was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year and a second-team league all-star. Ambrose, who has extensive experience with Canada’s National program, was the leading rookie scorer from the blueline nationally with 36 points, including a school-record 30 assists, through 34 games. She was one of only three defensemen overall in the country who averaged over a point per game (1.06). Strong at both ends of the ice, Fast tallied 10 points, including eight assists, and a +7 plus/minus rating playing in all 38 games.

Freshman Corie Jacobson (Warren, ONT) will push the veterans for a regular role on the back end and help make up for the graduation loss of Hailey Wood. Jacobson served as an assistant captain with the Northbay Ice Boltz last season. She also helped Team Canada win the Gold Medal at last season's U18 World Championship. FORWARDS: The Knights will boast plenty of firepower up front with nine top scorers, including five established seniors providing the leadership. Clarkson’s top scorers, seniors Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) and Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) have proven to be two of the best forwards in the Green and Gold’s history, amassing 115 (48-67) and 105 (39-66) points, respectively, through their first three seasons. Rattray, who has seen plenty of action with Canada’s National program, was the Knights’ leading offensive force last season, averaging 1.44 points per game on 22 goals and 30 assists through 36 contests. A Second-Team ECAC Hockey All-Star, she is a clutch goal scorer who tied for the nation’s lead in game-winning goals with nine. Rattray set the Clarkson record for points in a season overall with 52. She shares the

program record for most assists in a season with 30 along with Ambrose. A third-team conference all-star in 2012-13, Carly Mercer posted 41 points on 17 goals and 24 assists. She connected for six game-winning tallies and six power-play markers and recorded a +14 plus/ minus rating. Classmates Britney Styner (Calgary, ALB), Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) and Shelby Nisbet (Wiseton, SASK) are solid two-way, senior players who come to play a full 60 minutes every game. Styner was among the team leaders in plus/minus last season with a +18 while tallying nine goals and 19 assists as Clarkson’s fifth-leading scorer with 28 points in 37 games. She tallied two game-winners, a pair of power-play markers and one shorthanded goal. Selected as the Knights' Unsung Hero Award Winner last season, Gagnon will look to continue the pace she set down the stretch last year when she was one of the Knights’ most productive forwards, scoring a goal in four of the last five games. She recorded 21 points overall on 10 goals and 11 assists through 38 games, and netted three game-winning goals and two power-play tallies. One of the Golden Knights’ hardest workers, Nisbet played through numerous injuries during the season to skate in all 38 games recording 16 points (511). Recipient of Clarkson's Coaches Award, she is a tenacious forward and strong penalty-killer. Junior Christine Lambert (Thetford Mines, QUE) and sophomores Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, PEI) and Olivia Howe (Moose Jaw, SASK) saw significant time last year and should enjoy

MacAulay was Clarkson’s leading freshman forward with 16 points on nine goals and seven assists playing in all 38 games. She also scored in the NCAA Tournament. Olivia Howe enjoyed a solid rookie campaign with eight points and six goals in 36 games. Sophomore Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) and freshmen Genevieve Bannon (Candiac, QUE) and Jessica Gillham (Uxbridge, ONT) will add to the depth up front and help replace the loss to graduation of Danielle Skirrow. Cayley Mercer, the younger sister of Carly, missed all of last season recovering from an injury, but looks to be in top form for the 2013-14 campaign. She was team captain for the Bluewater Jr. Hawks in 2011-12 and helped to lead her team to the PWHL championship. Mercer, along with MacAulay and Ambrose, won a Gold Medal with Team Canada at the 2012 U18 World Championship Bannon played last season for Ontario Hockey Academy where she was the team captain. Gillham skated for the Aurora Panthers in 2012-13. Both Bannon and Gillham participated in Canada’s Women’s U18 National Team Selection Camp. Bannon joined Jacobson in winning aGold Medal with team Canada at last season's U18 World Championship.

CLARKSON WOMEN'S HOCKEY HISTORY

eginning its 11th year as a Division I program, Clarkson University Women’s Hockey has enjoyed tremendous growth from its first season and is now regarded as one of the top teams in the NCAA. After a 20-year absence, the University made a full commitment to women’s hockey as the sport was reestablished on campus with the announcement that Clarkson would compete at the Division I level starting with the 2003-04 campaign. Clarkson’s original women’s hockey team, formed by Ron Frazer '45, played from 1974-1984 compiling a 77-72-3 record through 10 seasons. "Frazer’s Blazers" featured numerous talented players, including Pam Morin ‘76, a leading force for women’s hockey at Clarkson, Kelly Priestley ‘81, an inaugural Clarkson Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, and Cathy Champion-Demers ‘84, a top scorer for the Knights. Frazer was chosen for induction into Clarkson’s 2004 HOF while Champion-Demers was a part of the 2007 HOF class. As a Division I program, the Green and Gold have amassed a 196-130-40 overall record for a winning percentage of .590 through the first 10 seasons. Clarkson has skated to eight winning campaigns and has qualified for the ECAC Hockey playoffs in each of its first nine seasons in the competitive conference. The Knights, under head coach Rick Seeley, who would

guide the program in its first five years, held their own in that initial season and posted a 16-12-3 overall record against a mixed schedule of Division I foes and elite squads from Division III. Laying the foundation for a promising future, Clarkson skated a very young lineup featuring 220 freshmen. Clarkson’s initial NCAA victory was a 2-1 triumph at Niagara o on October 18, 2003. The Knights’ first official win at Cheel A Arena was a 1-0 shutout of Vermont on October 26 of that o opening campaign. Clarkson has enjoyed great success at its 33,000-seat home, posting a 118-46-22 record (.694) in Potsdam tthrough its first 10 seasons. By qualifying for the 2004-05 ECACHL playoffs in its first year aas a member of the 11-team league, Clarkson proved to be a pprogram on the rise in the NCAA Division I ranks. The Golden K Knights, who swept Union College 2-1 and 4-0 on October 1617 at Cheel in its inaugural league games, posted a respectable 13 w wins in its second year as a varsity program. The Green and Gold, who lost seven one-goal games during tthe year, earned the final league postseason berth with a solid rrun down the stretch where they won four of their last seven lleague games. Clarkson clinched its first ever postseason appearaance when it knocked off Brown University 3-2 in Potsdam on FFebruary 19, 2005. The Knights ended the year with a loss at pperennial NCAA powerhouse Harvard in the playoffs. The lone senior on the Clarkson roster, Kristi Shaw '05, a transfer from UNH, completed her two-year career for the G Green and Gold and became the Knights' first alumna. With two years of experience under its belt Clarkson came iinto its own during the 2005-06 campaign and was ranked among tthe Top 10 teams in the country throughout the majority of tthe season. The Knights skated to 22 wins and tied for third in tthe conference. Highlighting the regular season was a weekend ssweep at league powers Harvard (4-3) and Dartmouth (1-0), and a 2-0 shutout over its archrival, number-one ranked St. Lawrence bbefore a record crowd of 1,946 at Cheel Arena on December 2. The Knights had to travel to Cambridge, MA once again for

Golden Knights the ECAC playoffs, and although the Green and Gold eventually lost to Harvard in the first round they were able to force the series to three games by earning their first ever playoff win with a 2-1 overtime triumph over the Crimson on March 4, 2006. Harvard was able to advance to the championship tournament after edging Clarkson 2-1 in double overtime the next night. Junior captain Lindsay Williams ‘07 and assistant captains Christine Bailkowski ‘07, Emma Madigan ’07 and Ashley Shaidle ’07 led a young Clarkson squad, without any seniors

on the roster. The Knights gained the respect from every team they faced for their disciplined, hard-working style of play. The first ever all-star for Clarkson, Kira Hurley ’07 backboned the Knights in goal during their breakout season and earned numerous accolades in the process, including second-team All-America and the ECACHL Goaltender of the Year. Williams was honored for her contributions to the community and was named a finalist for the prestigious Hockey Humanitarian Award. Hurley anchored one of the stingiest defenses in the country and posted an NCAA-high 10 shutouts. She boasted a .937 save percentage and a 1.29 goals against average. Twelve seniors who formed the cornerstone of the program since its inception closed out their collegiate careers in 2006-07 with an impressive resume and the knowledge in knowing that they established a solid foundation for an emerging program in the NCAA. The Golden Knights’ Class of 2007 skated to three winning campaigns in four seasons and helped the Green and Gold compile 69 total victories, a notable achievement for a neophyte program just getting off the ground. With the seniors providing the leadership, a talented trio of

ffreshmen sparking the offense, and d a veteran t ttandem d bbackstopkt pping the Knights’ stingy defensive effort, Clarkson proved once aagain that it was one of the most competitive teams in Division I in 2006-07. Led by Williams, a three-year captain, and assistant ccaptains Shaidle and Lauren Lubrano ‘07, Clarkson was ranked a among the top teams in the nation during a school-record eightg game winning streak in the middle of the season and finished w an 18-15-3 overall record, including 11 wins at Cheel Arena. with W Williams went on to be named a finalist once again for Hockey H Humanitarian Award and was the recipient of the coveted Sara D Devins Award. The Knights tied for sixth in the ECACHL, regarded as the t toughest league in women’s hockey with a 10-10-2 conference m mark. Clarkson’s season came to a close in late February when t Knights pushed fifth-ranked St. Lawrence to the limit in the the q quarterfi nal round of the league’s playoffs in Canton, NY before f falling 3-2 and 3-1 in the series. Rookies Genevieve Lavoie ‘10, Britney Selina ‘10 and C Carlee Eusepi ‘10 led the Knights’ offense. Lavoie, who scored a team-high 23 goals and 36 points, and Eusepi, who tallied 21 p points from the blueline, were both named to the ECACHL A All-Rookie team. Hurley and Stephanie Hansen ‘07 shared t duties in goals, with both posting three shutouts apiece, and the h helped the Knights rank among the top defensive squads in the c country, allowing only 2.06 goals per game. Along with Williams, Bailkowski, Hansen, Hurley, Lubrano, Mad digan, Shaidle, Jessica Finley, Andrea Maluta, Melissa Marshall, C Christina Valesente and Carolyn Zidek all closed out their c collegiate careers as part of Clarkson’s first senior class. With a school-record for wins, a Top-10 ranking in the nat tional polls, it’s first ever playoff series victory and its inaugural t to the ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, Clarkson trip e enjoyed great success in the 2007-08 campaign. Seeley and ass sistant coaches Shannon and Matt Desrosiers established the five-year-old Golden Knight program as one of the best in the ccountry with a young team that relied upon hard work, discipplined play, a stingy defensive effort, and opportunistic scoring. Led by their four seniors, captain Katie Morrison ‘08 and asssistants Brooke Beazer ‘08, Jessica Cloutier ‘08 and Amand da Dittmer ‘08, the Knights skated to a 24-9-5 overall record, aand finished fourth in ECAC Hockey with a 13-6-3 league mark. T The Green and Gold rallied to defeat Princeton in the league’s ppostseason quarterfinal round, earning their first victories ever o over the Tigers, by winning the best-of-three series 2-1 at Cheel A Arena. The finest season in Clarkson’s brief history came to a cclose in the conference semifinal round as the Knights fell to the ttop team in the country, Harvard, as the Crimson pulled away for

a hard fought win on their home ice at the Bright Hockey Center. Featuring one of the stingiest defenses in the country, Clarkson was ranked fourth in the nation allowing only 1.42 goals per games. The Knights finished second in ECAC Hockey action in scoring defense (1.59). Backboning Clarkson’s strong defensive play was a pair of talented freshman goaltenders, including Lauren Dahm ‘11, who boasted some of the best numbers in the country. Offensively, Clarkson displayed a balanced attack and averaged close to three goals per game. Eleven players scored in double figures, including four with over 30 points, and several forwards established new school records. As a sophomore, Selina set a new standard for points in a season with 44, including a record 26 assists. Clarkson was the least penalized team in college hockey, averaging just 7.2 minutes per game. Although Clarkson came up just short in its bid for a second consecutive appearance in the ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, the Golden Knights still enjoyed a successful season, recording numerous team and individual highlights. Guided by first-year co-head coaches Shannon, who was with the program at its inception, and Matt Desrosiers, a young Clarkson squad with just three seniors on the roster – captain Kimberly McKenney ‘09, Marie-Jo Gaudet ‘09 and Courtney O’Connor ‘09 - posted a 16-14-6 overall record and placed seventh in ECAC Hockey with a 10-8-4 conference mark. The Green and Gold were edged out by St. Lawrence in the league’s quarterfinal series in Canton NY, closing out the most challenging schedule in the program’s six-year history with two close losses to the nationally-ranked Saints, falling 4-3 in overtime and 2-1. Highlighting the 2008-09 campaign for the Golden Knights was a two-game sweep at Cheel Arena over Mercyhurst (5-2, 4-2), eventual runners-up for the 2009 NCAA title, a three-point weekend in Potsdam against perennial national powers Harvard (2-0) and Dartmouth (2-2), and a 2-1 regular season triumph at

hhome over St. Lawrence. Gaudet headlined a respectable showing by Clarkson on the 22008-09 ECAC Hockey All-Star Team by earning first-team acccolades. Selina and Eusepi were named third-team all-stars, while ffreshman standout Juana Baribeau ‘12 was selected to ECAC H Hockey’s All-Rookie team. Gaudet and Selina became the charter m members of Clarkson Century Club by surpassing the 100-point ccareer mark during the season. After growing into a solid Division I program through its first ssix years in the NCAA, Clarkson joined the nation’s elite in 2009110 with its best season ever. Guided by the Desrosiers, Clarkson sskated to a 23-12-5 overall record and just missed out on claimiing the ECAC Hockey regular season title with a 14-5-3 league m mark. The Golden Knights, paced by Selina and Eusepi, were regardeed among the top teams in the country throughout the season, rranking as high as number two in the national polls, and made the pprogram’s first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, qualifyiing as an at-large selection in the prestigious eight-team tourney. The Green and Gold enjoyed a memorable postseason run, sstarting with its first ever playoff victories over archrival St. Lawrrence in the ECAC quarterfinal round. After dispatching the SSaints 2-1 (5-0, 1-2, 4-1) in the opening series at Cheel Arena, the K Knights took down perennial powerhouse Harvard with a 3-2 w win in the conference semifinals held in Potsdam. Clarkson came uup just short in its bid for the ECAC Tournament Championship, ffalling to Cornell 4-3 in overtime in Ithaca. The Knights made an impressive showing in their first NCAA T Tournament game, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime aagainst Minnesota as Baribeau scored the tying goal on a shot ffrom center ice with just 1:44 remaining in regulation. Golden Knights Clarkson fell in the extra session 3-2 on the Gophers’ home ice, the Knights left with their heads held high. Selina was named ECAC Hockey’s Best DefensiveForward, while Eusepi was honored at the conference’s Best Defensive-Defenseman. Dahm joined Selina and Eusepi as a second-team ECAC Hockey All-Star. The Knights’ leading scorer, Dominique Thibault ‘10 was named a third-team league allstar. Seniors Ashleigh Moorehead and Tegan Schroeder also played key roles in Clarkson’s most successful season. A young Clarkson squad overcame a slow start to the 2010-11 campaign, matured as the season progressed, and gained experience and confidence to emerge as a solid team in ECAC Hockey. The Golden Knights came within one goal of advancing to the their second consecutive appearance in the semifinal round of the conference’s postseason tournament. The Knights’ season came to an end with a 4-3 overtime loss at 9th-ranked Dartmouth in Game 3 of the league’s quarterfinal series. Clarkson, which went 8-5-3 in its final 16 games, posted a 1417-6 overall record and claimed sixth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 10-8-4 league mark. Dahm and forward Melissa Waldie ‘11 established themselves as two of the best to ever play for the Knights, setting new Clarkson records. Dahm posted a career mark for wins in goal with 49, while Waldie became the Knights’ all-time leading goal scorer with 67. Classmate Daris Tendler set the program’s record for most career games played at 150. Along with Caitlin Oleksa and Courtney Olson, the Class of 2011 compiled 77 wins over four years at Clarkson. The Knights freshmen developed into a standout class and boasted two of the team’s leading scorers in Jamie Lee Rattray and Carly Mercer with 25 and 24 points, respectively. Erica Howe emerged as Clarkson’s number one goaltender down the stretch and finished her rookie campaign with 10 wins. With its most victories ever in ECAC Hockey play and a 20-win mark through mid-February, Clarkson enjoyed one of its best regular seasons ever in the nine-year history of the program. Unfortunately the Golden Knights could not continue their momentum in postseason action and came up just sort in the opening round

o f of the conference pplayoffs to end the 22011-12 campaign w with a a 22-10-5 o overall record. Clarksson placed third in tthe league standiings with a 15-5-2 EECAC Hockey mark. T The well respected C Class of 2012 – C Captain Katelyn P Ptolemy, assistant ccaptain Danielle B Boudreau, Baribbeau, Kali Gillanders and Gabrielle Kosziwka – provided tthe leadership for the Green and Gold while a talented group o of underclassmen emerged as standout Division I players, giving C Clarkson a promising future. Howe was among the best in the country between the pipes aand was selected the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Y Year to highlight the Knights’ individual honors. Rattray, who aaveraged 1.15 points per game, was a nominee for the Patssy Kazmier Award as the top player in Women’s Division I H Hockey. In her second collegiate season, Mercer led the Green aand Gold in scoring with 40 points, including 26 assists. Danie elle Skirrow, who was among the national leaders in powerpplay goals with 10, and Hailey Wood, Clarkson’s leading scorer ffrom the blueline with 24 points, enjoyed solid junior campaigns. B Baribeau closed out her career as the Knights’ third all-time lleading scorer with 118 (62-56) career points. Celebrating its 10th season of Division I play, Clarkson enjjoyed its best season ever in 2012-13. The Golden Knights, with tthe Desrosiers in their fifth year at the helm, posted a schoolrrecord 28-10 overall record. Led by captain Carly Mercer and aassistant captain Hailey Wood, Clarkson skated to a secondpplace 18-4 ECAC Hockey mark, finishing just one point out of first. Ranked in the national polls throughout the season, the G Green and Gold advanced to the league playoffs semifinal round aand were one of the eight teams selected to play in the 2013 N NCAA Tournament. Erica Howe highlighted the Knights indivvidual honores when she was selected ECAC Hockey Goaltend der of the Year for the second consecutive season. Erin Amb brose was named the conference’s Rookie of the Year, and was a second-team ECAC All-Star along with Rattray. Carly Mercer w was a third-team league All-Star. Skirrow closed out her colleggiate career by skating in a school-record 151 games.

Ron Frazer '45

CLARKSON REMEMBERS RONALD FRAZER '45 "FATHER OF WOMEN'S HOCKEY"

ith women's sports emerging at the collegiate level in the mid-1970s, Ron Frazer started Clarkson's original intercollegiate women's hockey program with nothing but true "walk-ons." Frazer, the "Father" of Women's Hockey at Clarkson, along with his wife Doris, played a highly significant role in establishing the foundation for the Golden Knights' current Division I women's hockey team. Drawing from the 184 women undergraduates on campus, Frazer gathered 17 student-athletes for Clarkson's first women's team in the winter of 1974. The Knights won their first game with an impressive 7-0 victory over Potsdam with senior center Joan Carroll '75 scoring the first of her five goals just 22 seconds after the opening faceoff. Clarkson, which also posted wins over Colgate and Boston University during that inaugural season, finished with a 5-2 record in the 1974-75 campaign. During his nine-year tenure guiding "Frazer's Blazers" the Green and Gold compiled a 68-64-3 record, but more importantly provided Clarkson student-athletes with plenty of sportsmanship, camaraderie and lasting memories. The Knights' best season was in 1977-78 when the team finished with nine consecutive wins to post an 11-5 mark. Frazer was a 1945 Clarkson mechanical engineering graduate and went on to Iowa State for his PhD in industrial engineering and economics. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, he skated at forward on the Clarkson men's ice hockey teams during the 1942-43 and 1943-44 seasons under coach Jack Roos, recording 23 goals and 10 assists through 15 games. Before attending Clarkson he was a leading scorer for Nepean High School and the Ottawa Junior Senators. A 2004 Clarkson Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee and a Centennial Professor in the School of Business, Frazer passed away on September 6, 2011.

CLARKSON UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S HOCKEY THE FIRST 10 YEARS 1974-84 Clarkson’s original women’s hockey team, formed by Ron Frazer, played from 19741984 compiling a 77-72-3 record through 10 seasons. Frazer’s Blazers featured numerous talented players, including Pam Morin ‘76, a leading force for women’s hockey at Clarkson, Kelly Priestley ‘81, an inaugural Clarkson Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, and Cathy Champion-Demers ‘84, a top scorer for the Knights.

CLARKSON ATHLETIC HALL of FAME Three members of Clarkson’s original Women’s Hockey program, Kelly Priestley ’81, Cathy Champion-Demers ’84 and Ron Frazer '45 have been inducted into Clarkson’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Inaugural Class of 1992 Inductee, Priestley was a high-scoring forward from 1977-81. Champion-Demers, a standout in the early 1980s, amassing 165 points, was inducted in 2007.

CLARKSON WOMEN’S HOCKEY DIVISION I HISTORY • September 5, 2002 - Rick Seeley named as head coach • • September 5, 2003 - Golden Knights’ first practice • • October 10, 2003 - Clarkson plays Bluewater Junior Hawks in exhibition contest at Cheel Arena • • October 17, 2003 - Knights play at Niagara in first official NCAA game • • October 18, 2003 - Clarkson posts 2-1 win at Niagara for the program’s first Div. 1 victory • • October 25, 2003 - Knights rally for 1-1 tie against Vermont in official home opener at Cheel Arena • • October 26, 2003 - Clarkson shuts out the Catamounts, 1-0, for first home win • • October 16, 2004 - Clarkson defeats Union 2-1 at Cheel Arena for first ECACHL victory • • February 19, 2005 - With a 3-2 win over traditional league power Brown at Cheel Arena, Clarkson clinches a berth in the ECACHL postseason tournament • • March 4, 2005 - The Knights travel to Harvard for first ECACHL playoff game • • November 12-13, 2005 - Clarkson knocks off two Top-10 ranked teams on the road, winning at 5th-ranked Harvard (4-3) and at 8th-ranked Darmouth (1-0) • • December 2, 2005 - Clarkson shuts out #1-ranked St. Lawrence 2-0 at Cheel Arena • • March 4, 2006 - The Knights earn their first playoff victory with a 2-1 overtime win at Harvard • • March 24, 2006 - Goaltender Kira Hurley ‘07 named Clarkson’s first All-American • • March 1-2, 2008 - Clarkson gains its first ever playoff series victory with a sweep of Princeton (3-2ot, 2-1) in the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series at Cheel Arena • • March 8, 2009 - The Knights make their inaugral trip to the ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, falling to Havard 3-0 at Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, MA • • August 8, 2008 - Matt and Shannon Desrosiers name co-Head Coaches, the first husband-and-wife head coaching tandem in college hockey history • • November 29, 2008 - Clarkson defeates Vermont 4-2 at Cheel Arena to gain program’s 100th win • • March 7, 2010 - Clarkson makes its first showing in the ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship game, falling to top-seed Cornell 4-3 in overtime at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, NY • • March 13, 2010 - The Knights make their first NCAA playoff appearance with a 3-2 overtime loss to the University of Minnesota at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis • • March 1, 2012 - Erica Howe ‘14 named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year • • March 2, 2013 - Knights post school-record 28th win with 5-2 victory over Rensselaer in Game 2 of ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal Round series at Cheel Arnea • • March 8, 2013 - Erica Howe ‘14 named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year for second straight season • • March 8, 2013 - Erin Ambrose ‘16 named ECAC Rookie of the Year • • March 16, 2013 - Clarkson makes its second NCAA playoff appearance with a 5-3 loss to Boston University at Walter Brown Arena in Boston • • September 17, 2013 - Clarkson kson Pres Preseason esea ea aso s n #1 Pick in EC ECAC Hockey Coaches’ Poll •
