Rich timberlands attracted early settlers to the community of Covert.

Soon they built mills, producing millions of feet of lumber a year. A horse railroad was built to carry lumber from the mills to Lake Michigan to be shipped to Midwestern cities including Milwaukee, Chicago and Racine. Substantial piers were built on the lakeshore to reinforce the railroad.

Today the lake also provides an abundance of outdoor recreation for residents and visitors including camping, paddle boarding and kayaking.

There are 62 campground sites across 50 acres in the community. Campers who seek the comforts of home will find campgrounds with water and electricity; others will find some peacefully primitive sites.

The unincorporated community is located just 10 minutes from South Haven and within easy driving distance of St. Joseph, Saugatuck and Holland.

Students in the township attend Covert Public Schools.
