Christian Formation includes journeying together through faith and doubt, engaging in scripture, sharing our stories, and exploring what it means to follow Christ in a world that needs the good news of God’s love.

Tuesdays, October 10, November 14, December 12 10 am in the cathedral library or 5 pm on Zoom Matthew’s gospel lays out Jesus’ genealogy, and among the many men listed are five women –some of them rather unlikely ancestors in his royal lineage. Join Canon Katie in an exploration of the foremothers of Jesus: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. All who identify as women are welcome.

Bishop Jake Owensby writes, “To exist is to be held, to be tenderly nurtured and sustained, by God’s own love. Death cannot sever a connection like that, and neither can suffering or sorrow.” In this forum, Bishop Jake will invite conversation into how we can live wholeheartedly with grief and suffering, knowing that our relationship with the risen Christ offers hope, solace, and the knowledge that love continues, even in loss.

The Catechumenate is a community of learning, conversation, and fellowship in a gathering as old as Christianity itself. It is the journey to baptism, confirmation, reception into the Episcopal Church, or the reaffirmation of baptismal vows. Additional classes will be offered in the spring. Our relationship with the Risen Christ can be the navigational and animating principle that shapes our life, forms our identity, and guides us in times of ease and times of challenge. Join Bishop Jake Owensby, author of A Resurrection Shaped Life, to explore these three questions: How does the Resurrection give us a sense of identity? How does the Resurrection give us a sense of purpose? How does the Resurrection help us navigate life’s complexities?

Our new SAGES groups are intended to give us space to explore our spiritual journeys in our daily lives. We can offer one another profound support as we engage with spiritual practices, see our faith in action, and strive to be true to our faith in everyday situations. We will offer a few groups this fall: SAGES for Women, SAGES for Men, SAGES for the Beloved LGBTQI+ group, and SAGES for the 20s & 30s group.

Beginning this fall, groups will read Looking for God in the Messy Places by Bishop Jake Owensby as a catalyst for conversation. It is not necessary to read at the same pace, or even read at all; the book is a helpful tool in opening dialogue.
