By sea | Haslar Marina is located in Gosport on the left hand side of Portsmouth Harbour as you enter. All boats under 20m should enter Portsmouth Harbour via the Small Boat Channel (mandatory). Turn to port to exit the channel as the green Lightship comes into view. Visitors’ berths are located on the linear pontoons L and M, just inside of the Lightship. Please contact the marina office on VHF Ch. 80 or 023 9260 1201 when you are ten minutes from the marina to receive a berth allocation. The detailed plan on page 83 of the yearbook will assist you in locating the correct channel for your allocated berth. Boats over 20m should contact the Queen’s Harbour Master (QHM) on VHF Ch. 11 before entering. QHM will authorise and co-ordinate entry to the harbour. All boats over 48m or with 12 paying passengers will require a pilot for entry and departure. These vessels should contact Portsmouth Harbour Commercial Port on 023 9285 5900.

Laundry | There are two laundry facilities available; one in the bow of The Lightship and one in the washroom building at ‘A’ pontoon. The cost is £1.50 per wash or dry cycle in denominations of £1 and £0.50 coins. Washing powder is available from the marina reception. Keys | Berth holders and visitors who are leaving vessels at Haslar are required to leave a set of keys with the marina office. This means that staff can access the boat in the unlikely event of any problems – and if you forget your keys, you don’t have to go all the way home again! Keys will only be released to the named owner or pre-arranged friends or contractors. Telephones | In cases of emergency, the office telephone 023 9260 1201 can be used to leave messages.

Haslar Marina information | continued Internet access | A PC with free internet is available for use in the marina reception area during normal office hours. Free Wireless Broadband is also available. It is a basic service designed for the download of emails and viewing of websites. This service is subject to a ‘fair use policy’. Waste and recycling | Recycling bins are located at the marina’s waste collection points on ‘A’ and ‘G’ pontoons and in the visitors’ area to the stern of the Lightship (see map). All of the following types of waste can be recycled. General waste is incinerated and used to power up to 30,000 homes, meaning nothing is sent to landfill. • Cardboard • Paper (including newspapers & magazines) • Cans – all types • Glass – recovered from general waste stream • Plastic bottles • Fruit juice and milk cartons • Telephone directories There is also an area set aside for the recycling of waste engine oil, oil filters and batteries. Please ask at the marina reception for details.

84

Trolleys | Trolleys are available from the car park and ‘G’ pontoon on the marina. A £1 coin is required to release the trolley, which will be returned when the trolley is refastened at one of the designated areas. If you have a heavy or awkward load, please ask a member of staff to help you. Should a trolley accidentally fall into the water, we will be only too happy to recover it and refund your £1! Please help your fellow marina users and promptly return your trolley after use. Trolleys must be used responsibly, no person is permitted to be carried in the trolley. The company accepts no liability for any loss, injury or damage arising from its use. Toilets and showers | Haslar Marina is renowned for the excellent quality of its washroom facilities. The washrooms are laid out in private cubicles, each with its own shower, WC, washbasin and hairdryer. They are situated across the marina at ‘A’ and ‘G’ pontoons and onboard the Lightship. An accessible/family washroom, complete with a baby changing unit is located at ‘A’ pontoon. Please do not use your boat’s sea toilet in the marina.

The marina office accepts incoming faxes (for a small donation to the RNLI box). The fax number is 023 9260 2201. Should you wish to send a fax, please ask at the marina office for charges. Trailers may be stored at the top of the slipway for a maximum of 48 hours. Sealift2 Dry Dock | Located on the hammerhead of ‘F’ pontoon there is a revolutionary eco-friendly floating dry dock. For more details go to www.sealift2.com or contact their office on 023 9258 0870.

Warps and Fenders | Please ensure that your vessel is properly secured with adequate lines and fenders. Please also ensure that all halyards are held away from the mast. We recommend that headsails be removed during the winter period. Contractors | We have an open policy towards contractors working on boats in the marina This allows any contractor to work on your boat, providing they have adequate third party insurance cover and do not cause a nuisance to other berth holders. Please let the office know in advance should you wish your boat keys to be released to a third party. All contractors should sign in and out of the Contractors Book in the marina office. Hot work requires a permit from the marina reception. Health & Safety and Weather Information Please see pages 124 - 125.

Haslar Yacht Club

• FOR QUALITY ASSURED VOLVO PENTA ENGINEERING SERVICES

Your local, friendly and all-inclusive sailing and motor boat club.

All too often we race down to the boat focussing on setting off at the earliest opportunity and having duly arrived at our chosen spot, we relax and quite happily chat away to our neighbours on the boat next door, whom we may have never met before; indeed countless lasting friendships have been made that way.

Bembridge or as far afield as Weymouth, France and the Channel Islands. Shore based events include dinners, trips to places of maritime interest and the odd tour around our local brewery! We meet regularly at Hardy’s restaurant on the second Friday of every month, and these club nights may incorporate a quiz, guest speaker or just a good old social chat.

But, how well do you know the other boat owners at your marina? Do you enjoy the social side of boating - both activities ashore and boating in company to other destinations?

Our members have wide ranging levels of experience, from Yachtmaster Ocean to those who have just started boating and are looking for a helping hand to improve their confidence levels. If you would like to undertake your first Channel Crossing in company then where better to start than with fellow members of HYC. The Club is developing links to meet members’ requirements for training – particularly First Aid, radar and VHF courses - and through Haslar Marina’s training affiliation with the RYA has organised experience sessions with RYA instructors based on individual needs.

Haslar Yacht Club was formed four years ago by a group of like-minded people who wanted to share the pleasure of their hobby; promote the fun side of boating; meet new people and not to pay a fortune in club membership fees. The HYC now has one hundred active members consisting of sailors, motor-boaters and non-boat owners, all with the common interest of boating. Most are berth holders at Haslar Marina but the Club also welcomes members who berth their boats elsewhere. Membership costs just £30 per person per year and there is a £10 joining fee. If you do not own or have access to a boat but are looking to crew, or if you have a boat and are seeking crew then why not try the e crew 4 u forum on the HYC web site. Haslar Yacht Club runs a range of regular events including joint rallies for yachts and motor boats alike, sailing in company to places as close as
