House in Kapuskasing
HOUSE IN KAPUSKASING
Located in Kapuskasing, Ontario, the house was designed around a few big sustainable moves: geothermal, the addition of a wind farm on the site, solar orientation for passive heating and cooling and the use of local materials. It contributes to greening the local grid, as well as operates from green on-site power generation. The building envelope is air tight and super insulated. The insulation we chose to use is Enviro Foam Spray Insulation, which has an R-Value of 7, it is made out of soya, a rapidly renewable resource. All windows would either be triple paned, low e-coated, argon filled glass, or our louvre system. The louvre system is comprised of two double paned windows separated by a 10 cm air space, which is filled with wood louvers that can be manually operated by a crank from the inside of the house; the system is sealed. Produced in collaboration with Claire Kurtin.

PORTLANDS AQUARIUM
Portlands Aquarium is a jellyfish zoo in Toronto, ON. Taking up a strip of an old ship dock, it turns the abandoned area into a wetland growing algae for the jellies with a walking path to the destination. Inside the building, the four massive tanks form passageways of the exhibition. Walkways, ramps and stairs wind up and down the masses of water and jellyfish, creating a sensation of being swarmed by the creatures.

The Centipede
Perspective from school courtyard
Plan
THE CENTIPEDE This project was produced in collaboration with Claire Kurtin as an entry to the SSEF “Curvature“ competition. The Centipede spans from the existing School of Architecture in Cambridge across the Grand River towards a proposed new studio space. A pedestrian crossing from the courtyard of the school to the additional space would be built for student convenience. The bridge would create a link between the existing school and the new space, providing a physical and social for the close-knit community. The centipede is made of 64 steel wide flange members rotating both in plan and section on a central axis through which a path travels. The members rise on the outside of the curve and fall on the inside, creating an experience of torque and spatial distortion.

Rooftop House
The house, which sits on top of the School of Architecture in Cambridge, is made out of prefabricated materials and can be assembled in 30 days. It employs a low-tech water collection and heating system which informs the shape of the ceiling inside.

THE MONSTER PROJECT The Moster Project was completed as part of my art school curriculum. It usually deals with gore and horror subjects, however, I decided to take an opportunity to explore a subject of fragility, powerlessness and monstrous acts. Ink on paper 36” x 24”
