Arrange to observe a language arts lesson taught in an elementary school classroom. Watch for how the teacher organizes for instruction. Identify which of the theories described in Chapter One the teacher’s methods best reflect. Also look for examples of effective teaching practices. Notice the nature of the
print environment; would you consider it print-rich? Do the students appear to be “active” learners? If possible, also interview the teacher to determine what has influenced him/her in deciding how to organize for literacy instruction. Write a 700-1050-word reflection paper summarizing your observations, and insights. Describe which practices were exemplary and why.

How the teacher organizes for instruction. What teaching method theory is being used, as described in Chapter 1 of the text. Examples of effective teaching practices.
