The power of the allure...

from a lifestyle of having no women in my life other than my mother to having all these women around me and experiencing many things for the first time.

Women Power...

• One can really never compare or know something until one experiences a related circumstance.

• One should only talk about thrills and first-hand knowledge when you have felt it or touched it.

You are probably wondering where I am going with this conversation.

When it comes to personal relationships or the gender conversations one should speak from experience or some knowledge about the topic. For me, growing up in an all-male environment, l never appreciated the power of women and how they use it knowing that they have this inherent ability to use their allure or power.

I never really understood this phenomenon until l started dating and l must admit l was a rooky at the dating game and never realized at the time the power women had on men. As a worked my way through the game of dating it was not always a good experience, but overall l got through it. My first real brush with female allure and its hidden power is when l got married and subsequently had four children, of which three of them were women. And so, l went

Thus, my opening paragraph about experiences once I invested in this change of lifestyle provided experience of the power that women had over men. They had me hook line and sinker and l never realized until years later that women had such an impact on men. All wonderful experiences once l realized the impact that they truly had on my life and those around me. As the women in my life grew into positions of power, l realized they had this inherent power which was underutilized. The old stereotype of keeping women subservient is still a challenge in many circles, from sport to business and many other fields. Positions of power and gender are very intertwined. Power differences frequently underline what appear to be gender differences in knowledge, behavior, attitude as society is currently configured, power and gender are never independent. As, such gender relates to power in the different ways power is acquired, used, and manifested. Many people believe that men are interested in power and getting power while women are not. Others hold that men and women differ in the ways that they establish, maintain and express power.

Traditional roles for men and women in most cultures have relegated women to working in the home primarily. This traditional role of fostering and nurturing others ensued from various sources, but the results are a decrease in the value of work done by women and a decreased ability to work outside the home. Other traditional views of women relegate them to certain occupations. The view of women as caretakers of the family extends beyond the familiar unit to others. Traditional stereotypes of women make them out to be much more emotional and irrational than men, thus, less suited for many important jobs.

For many years and in most regions of the globe, politics had not allowed women to play a significant role in government. Even in the early 1900s, politics were viewed almost exclusively as the domain of men. However, women’s movements and culture-changing events gradually increased women’s rights and roles in politics. It is very crucial to have more women run for all positions and not to be intimidated because we need women and their positions to be heard and through government and implementation of new legislations. Women were deprived of exercising political power in every country until granted the right to vote. After earning the right to vote, it often took decades for women to turn out to the polls in numbers proportional to their male counterparts. Today, the women’s block of votes is very significant and growing stronger.

To this day, most top high-powered positions in businesses and companies are held by men and the power that is handed down through the centuries is still quite evident... but changing. Women in top positions have been known to bring broader perspectives and opinions, which result in more comprehensive outcomes. The achievements by women are a great form of encouragement and mentoring by young women and what they can accomplish.

The academia field as well has a male dominated presence especially in areas of technology and sciences, but the trends are changing and very encouraging for women. Taking note of last weeks cover story of MJ and her accomplishment of being appointed an associate dean at York University...is inspiring to say the least. While hiring women in academic fields has been on a slight rise, it is still male dominated but needs to change. Like most fields changing the attitudes and the stereotype is where we need to continue to make strides because it will come and in short order in my humble estimation.

Women have obviously come along way and the journey is still ongoing and needs to be shaken up at times, but the progress is moving in the right direction. Women in many cases, not all are very persuasive and when you combine that trait with their smarts and ability, the sky’s the limit. Women have been suppressed in the past and the secret society of the male culture is still alive but getting weaker as the years go on. In my opinion, most successful men have very strong female presence or influence on many of their moves and justifiably right.

Never underestimate the power of a women
