Capodanno Guild - Cause Update May 2018

May 2018 Friends: As we approach Memorial Day, we remember all who have given their lives in service of this great country. We thank God for the many sacrifices made and remember that Father Capodanno requested to join the Navy to serve with our Marines in Vietnam, where he gave his life while providing comfort to the wounded and dying. Last year at this time supporters of the Guild numbered approximately 1400. Since the 50th Anniversary of Father Capodanno’s death and the viewing of the new documentary, Called and Chosen, that number has increased to over 2300, with nearly 70 being overseas. The Guild continues to gain more supporters as we take every opportunity to share his story. We now have a dedicated group of volunteers who are sharing Father Vincent's story across the nation and in Canada. These volunteers have delivered his story to almost 1800 people including: Marine recruits, grade school and high school students, Knights of Columbus Councils and Catholic Parish Groups. Currently, 14 more presentations are tentatively scheduled for the remainder of 2018. The new documentary on Father Capodanno's life has been a valuable instrument that continues to increase awareness of this truly holy man. EWTN is finalizing plans to air the documentary again on Veteran’s Day. The Guild is currently gifting the DVD for donations of $20, or more, see the information below: Called and Chosen, the Life of Father Vincent R. Capodanno http://capodannoguild.org

To date the Guild has gifted almost 1500 copies of the DVD to further the story of the heroic virtue of Father Capodanno and support the current review by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints of the "Acta,"(The documents submitted to Rome in May) which documents Father Capodanno's life and dedication to God. The support of the Cause has been generous; however, we are now entering a more expensive phases of the process, and further support will be needed to keep the Cause moving forward. We estimate that 2018 cost will be approximately $40,000 and although the Guild has already paid a portion, we need your strong financial support even more than in the past. Additional means of outreach by Guild members continues. In February, the Guild was represented at the Mid-Atlantic Congress sponsored by the Archdioceses of Baltimore, Arlington, and the Military Archdiocese of the Military Services. Guild members provided information about the Cause, recruited new supporters of the Guild, and collected donations. Another recent development is the donation the Guild received for the commissioning of a portrait of Father Capodanno by artist, Father Peter Gray, S.S. The final product will be ready within months and will initially be displayed at the Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese for the Military Services. 2018 has started out at a fast pace, and we will make sure to keep you informed of events as they occur. Father Capodanno's Cause for Sainthood cannot continue to move forward without your generous support. May God Bless you and your family in the months to come. We hope to see you all at the annual Mass of Remembrance in September. Enjoy your summer. The Father Vincent Capodanno Guild Board
