Fokker Dr.I When the Dr.I “Dreidecker’s” first entered service, they were thought to be unsuited for combat until pilots like Werner Voss showed their potential. Voss shot down ten enemy aircraft in six days of aerial combat and ultimately gained 48 victories. This plane is the first Dr.I reconstruction acquired by the museum. It is painted to represent the plane flown by Leutnant Voss, whose final heroic dogfight ended his life at the age of nineteen. The lifespan of pilots in the Great War was often measured in weeks.
