Focke-Wulf 190 A8 “Blue Four” Designed by Kurt Tank and first flown in 1939, the “Butcher Bird” became operational with the German Luftwaffe in 1941. A powerful and robust fighter, the Fw-190 quickly joined the Bf-109 to become the primary German fighters of WWII.
The museum’s A8 was built in late 1944 as part of a production run at AGO Flugeugwerke. A total of over 6,655 A8 models were produced between March 1944 to May 1945, making it the most numerous variant of the Fw-190. “Blue Four”, serial number 732183, was flown by Leutnant Rudolf “Rudi” Linz during Black Friday as part of 12/JG 5. This particular plane was recovered from a Norwegian fresh water fjord and will eventually be restored to a flying condition.
