1945 GOODYEAR FG-1D CORSAIR The Corsair is easily identified by its distinctive gull-shapped wing design. This 1945 FG-1D Corsair was originally built by Goodyear under license from the Chance-Vought Aircraft Company. It served as a Naval reserve aircraft on the west coast until the late 1940’s. In 1968 it flew in the opening ceremonies of the Reno Air Races in Nevada. The museum purchased this Corsair in 1999 from a private owner in Oklahoma. It has the paint scheme of Ray Beacham, known as the “Kittyhawk Kid”. A local of nearby Kittyhawk, NC, Beachcam was the first member of the Jolly Roger Squadron to shoot down a Japanese aircraft.
