Sopwith Camel Maneuverability was the hallmark of Sopwith planes, and the more powerful and heavily armed “Camel” was one of the best fighting planes of the Great War. As a successor to the popular “Pup”, the Camel was the first British plane to carry twin guns in front of the pilot. No aircraft of WWI shot down more enemy planes than the Camel. A combat involving a Camel brought down Baron Manfred von Richthofen, but to this day no one is positive if the Camel or ground fire was responsible for the death of the famous “Red Baron”.
