To create an 11x17 poster for 2nd Street Market in Dayton for their “Stock-Up Wednesday” event while focusing on properly setting up a file to be printed by an outside vendor.
Solution I decided on a simple and clean poster using fall colors and emphasizing one of the delicious items to be found at the event.

Designers of Herman Miller
| Typography II
Problem To design a visual proposal for a book about selected modernist designers.
Solution My design and concept stem from the idea of “relationships.� Designers such as Herman Miller and George Nelson put great emphasis on the way they worked with others, and I think it greatly led to their successes as designers. I propose a book that plays with the relationship between the two sides of each spread and uses the Centennial and Bell Gothic type families.
Practical Persuasive & Poetic
| Typography II
Problem To typographically design text from Einstein’s Dreams by Alan Lightman along with an additional text on three square panels. Each panel had to be designed as one of the following: practical, persuasive and poetic.
Solution I chose Dostoyevsky’s Demons to compare to Einstein’s Dreams because both include the ideas of time and creation. I used Helvetica Neue and Garamond 3.

Life Essentials

Problem To satisfy the need of our client, Life Essentials in Dayton, for a new brochure. This client was in the process of rebranding, and we were provided with the new logo, colors, copy and photography.
Solution Going along with the material I was given, I chose to design a traditional three panel brochure with easy to read type and hierarchy.
Pattern Book

Problem To build a book of patterns inspired by the first letter of our name and a nature influenced motif.
Solution These patterns were created using Adobe Illustrator, then compiled into an accordion book made in InDesign. My nature motif is inspired by a strawberry cut in half.
Garamond Book

Problem To design, print and assemble a book about and using our assigned type family.
Solution Using Garamond 3 and Gill Sans, I designed an easy to read and follow book, which uses the letterforms to compliment what is said in the text. I used my (at the time) newly learned typography skills to explore the forms of the Garamond letters and use them as the imagery for this book.
Geometry Design
| Form & Concept
Problem To construct a book inspired by the paper joints that we first created.
Solution After creating and photographing our paper joints, we digitally illustrated patterns in Adobe Illustrator to replicate the paper joints. Using my photographs and illustrations, I was inspired to use the color red for my design, along with the repetition of squares and rectangles.

Alice in Wonderland
| Alternative Photography
Problem To use the cyanotype and/or vandyke photography process in an experimental way. Solution Inspired by another collage project I had previously completed, I decided to use the cyanotype process with old photographs I had taken of my sister. I collaged the photos, along with various symbolic images, digitally and then printed the final images with the cyanotype process on tea-stained paper.
Darkroom Prints

Problem To select ten final photographs to sum up our semester of various darkroom photography assignments.
Solution These are two photographs from my final Foundation Photography project. I found that throughout the semester I really focused on the way that light and lines photograph. So, I chose to use these ideas to create my final collection.
White Lace
| Digital Photography
Problem I took this photograph during my summer abroad in Italy. I did not want all of my pictures from the trip to look like tourist shots.
Solution This was the window in the bathroom of my apartment. I was drawn to the beauty of the lace curtains and the way the light came through.
