[BIBLE] Why Milligan?
Study of the Bible has been foundational to Milligan since its inception. Milligan’s liberal arts education builds on this foundation, providing a broad-based preparation for ministry of all kinds. Ministers must know the scriptures and how to interpet them, but they must also understand the world and the people to whom they are called to minister. To achieve this ambitious aim, Milligan offers a rigorous Bible curriculum taught by a distinguished faculty. Students also benefit greatly from expert teachers all across the college, including those in psychology, education, sociology, history, and music.
Bible Curriculum The core of the major consists of courses in Bible, church history, and ministry. Students then build upon that core with their specific ministry track

(children’s, pastoral, youth, etc.). A sampling of the extensive courses in the Bible area can be found on the Milligan website.
Internships Serious study of scripture should always be connected with service or ministry, and so each track in our Bible major is focused toward teaching, ministering, or serving others in some way. Students are required to complete a ministry internship and many have part-time ministries at local churches.
Semester in Ministry One exciting internship opportunity is the innovative Semester in Ministry program with Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Maryland, where students gain hands-on experience in supervised ministry and spiritual formation, as well as take academic courses for credit. More information can be found at www.milligan.edu/semesterinministry.
Worship Leadership This major prepares students to participate on the ministry staff of a local church and lead Christian people in worship that is scripturally sound and musically and artistically competent.
Faculty Milligan has 11 Bible and ministry professors. They hold Ph.D.’s from Duke, Emory, Indiana University, Notre Dame, and the University of Denver, and M.Div.’s or M.A.’s from Abilene Christian University, Emmanuel School of Religion, and the University of Chicago. They are recognized and published scholars and all have years of ministerial experience in a variety of areas. Most importantly, they are excellent teachers and caring mentors.
Successful Graduates Our alumni are serving around the world as ministerial leaders in congregations of all sizes, missions organizations, and various educational and non-profit organizations. Many have also pursued graduate studies and report back that they were better prepared than most of their peers.
