A Top Field for Proven Growth The computer information systems (CIS) major, a requirement for many information systems (IS) positions, is designed to prepare students for a wide variety of careers, such as programmers, network managers, management information systems directors, and systems project leaders for applications in business, industry, and government. Even in a difficult economy, careers in IS are ranked among the top fields for expected growth by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Online Program The CIS-Mobile program is for non-traditional students or working professionals interested in expanding their skill set. Degree or certificate options are available. Students can complete the 39 credit hour CIS major in the comfort of their own home or office. Courses are not cohortbased, allowing students to take just one class or complete the major requirements in as few as five semesters or at their own pace. No previous college experience is required to begin the CISmajor.
CIS-M courses, which follow the ACM Curricular Model, mirror those available to traditional, on-site students at Milligan. The major encompasses all aspects of the CIS discipline, from programming to networking to systems analysis and software development. The program uses MP3s, podcasting, and simulations for fundamental, hands-on labs. On-site and online CIS courses are taught simultaneously within each 15-week semester. Courses are delivered to the student via Milligan’s Internet course management system and the technology development lab, using a server dedicated to facilitate student access to software supplied by Milligan’s Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Alliance to enrolled students.
