Performing, Visual, and Communicative Arts The fine arts program is designed to contribute to the development of students’ God-given personalities and talents by increasing their appreciation for and knowledge of human creativity.
ART Students completing the fine arts program with an emphasis in art acquire a strong foundation in visual art skills, insights, and overall aesthetic awareness.
MUSIC Music at Milligan is designed to help students acquire skills in various aspects of music. The curriculum is taught from an artistic standpoint that prepares students for several music-related careers.
PHOTOGRAPHY The photography emphasis is designed to help students acquire skills in various aspects of photography. The curriculum is taught from an artistic standpoint that gives students the creativity and experience necessary for a rewarding future in photography.
THEATRE Milligan’s theatre program stresses a basic understanding and appreciation for all facets of theatre work. Milligan’s theatre program has earned regional and national acclaim, not to mention lots of applause, laughter, and occasionally a heartfelt tear or two.
Campus Ministry SPIRITUAL FORMATION PROGRAM All full-time students are asked to participate in Spiritual Formation Programing (SFP) that helps nurture the Christian spirit, character, and worldview.
SERVICE The Christian faith is truly about serving others, and Milligan encourages students to put their faith in action by participating in mission and service projects in our own backyard and around the world.
SMALL GROUPS Students are encouraged to participate in various kinds of small groups, including Bible studies, accountability partners, prayer groups, men’s/women’s studies, couples groups, discipleship groups, as well as small groups offered by local churches.
Milligan offers a vital and challenging spiritual life program where you will be strengthened and encouraged to live a vibrant Christian life. As a student, you can broaden your faith through weekly chapels, convocations, and vesper services. And you’ll have plenty of opportunities to participate in or lead worship services, prayer groups, and Bible studies.
VESPERS Sunday evenings at 9 p.m. are set aside for Vespers under the direction of the Campus Ministry Team. This is an informal time for worship in which all students are invited to participate. The program is varied, incorporating singing, sharing, speaking, and special programs of fellowship.

Photography Minor Show February 12-20 Art Gallery in Derthick The photography show includes work by Shanna Myers, Amanda Morgan, and Shauna Zeigler. Show opening from 2-4 p.m. on February 12.
Little Women, the musical February 18-20, 7:30 p.m. Gregory Center February 21, 2:30 p.m. Gregory Center The critically acclaimed musical, Little Women, based upon the novel by Louisa May Alcott, will be presented in the McGlothlin-Street Theater as a joint production with the Milligan College music and theatre departments. The playwright, Allan Knee, with lyrics and music by Mindi Dickstein and Jason Howland, richly enhances this ever-popular classic story of Jo March and her three sisters during the American Civil War. Jo’s ambition to become a famous writer is severely complicated by the 19th century expectations for women as she battles personal tragedies and prejudice.

The Milligan College music faculty will present a collaborative recital featuring a wide-range of chamber ensembles and repertoire including John Williams’ “Air and Simple Gifts” for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano that was performed at the 2009 presidential inauguration. Also featured will be works for organ, voice, violin, and much more.

Storyteller Rebecca Alexander March 2, 7:30 p.m. Gregory Center The Milligan Arts Council is pleased to welcome back to campus acclaimed storyteller Rebecca Alexander. The evening will consist of a mixture of heart-warming and humorous stories that will leave the audience smiling.
The Milligan College Women’s Chorale, under the direction of Anne B. Elliott, will present its second annual spring concert in Seeger Chapel’s Walker Auditorium. The Women’s Chorale was founded in 2007 and has performed concerts in local venues as well as out of state. Showcasing the beautiful musical sound of female voices, the program will feature a variety of selections in sacred, contemporary Christian, jazz, and Broadway music.

February 28 - March 6 Art Gallery in Derthick
of the gods is not always kind. On their wedding day, the lord of the Underworld takes her away. For Eurydice, however, Hades is not such a bad place because she finds her father there and then has to choose between staying with him or following Orpheus (who has been given one chance to reclaim her) back to the world of the living. This wonderful new telling of the classic tale is given a bright and 21st century twist by the brilliant new American playwright, Sarah Ruhl.
Milligan College Orchestra Concert April 15, 7:30 p.m. Seeger Memorial Chapel The Milligan College Orchestra, directed by Dr. Kellie Brown, will conclude its season with a spring concert featuring works by Handel, Grieg, and Mozart. Milligan College Jazz Ensemble Concert April 26, 7:30 p.m. Seeger Memorial Chapel The Milligan College Jazz Ensemble will celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month by presenting a spring concert in Seeger Chapel. In addition to a variety of jazz ensemble numbers, the concert will feature guest artist Todd Wright on alto saxophone. Wright is the director of jazz studies at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.

A renowned expert on the Middle East and Islam, Dr. Graham Leonard has taught, lectured, and trained people throughout the United States and the Middle East. A Milligan student during the time the college was completely given over to the military for the Navy V-12 program (1943-1945), Leonard returns to campus to share his international insights and wisdom.
Dan Smith February 16 & 18, 11 a.m. Seeger Memorial Chapel Experience the teachings of Jesus in a new way, through the stories, folktales, and humor of Dan Smith. Smith is a storyteller, preacher, comedy writer and the lead minister of Momentum Christian Church, in Garfield Heights, Ohio. He recently completed a master of arts in storytelling at East Tennessee State University.
One Act Plays and Film Festival
Freddie Traum
April 27-29, 6 p.m. Gregory Center
Hear the story of a Holocaust survivor who was torn from his family, yet never forgot his father’s lessons of maintaining a positive outlook to overcome life’s hardships. Freddie Traum was born into a traditional Jewish family in Vienna, Austria. His life changed forever in March of 1938 when Germany annexed Austria, and he and his sister were sent on the kindertransports to England. His journey eventually brought him to the United States, where he now shares his story of hope.
Two one act plays will be presented each evening. These productions are all directed by students. Admission is free and open to the public.
Milligan College Jazz Combos Concert April 24, 8 p.m. McMahan Student Center - SUB 7 Two Milligan College jazz combos will play arrangements that emphasize improvisation and small group performance. Selections will include a variety of styles from swing to rock.

Tim Elmore encourages student leaders to follow God’s call and refine their purpose through interactive exercises, discussion, and a look at how they can cast a vision and become better leaders. He is the founder and president of Growing Leaders Inc., a non-profit organization created to develop emerging leaders. He has also written 21 books, including the best-selling “Habitudes: Images that Form Leadership Habits and Attitudes.”
Webb Lecture Series, with Dr. Robert Wetzel March 16 & 18, 11 a.m. Seeger Memorial Chapel Dr. Robert Wetzel, retired president of Emmanuel School of Religion, is the keynote speaker for the 2010 Henry and Emerald Webb Lecture Series. Wetzel has a long record of distinguished service in Christian higher education, including his service at Milligan College from 1961 to 1980.
Leaders in Christian Service April 6, 11 a.m. Seeger Memorial Chapel The college annually recognizes local leaders who demonstrate servant leadership in their careers and community.
