In Tennessee’s fair eastern mountains

Founded in the aftermath of

the Civil War, Milligan College began in a simple building on the banks of Buffalo Creek. From this humble beginning was born a college whose bold vision has given direction and purpose to young people for nearly a century and a half. Milligan survived the World Wars, when dozens of its students and faculty were recruited out of their classrooms to fight in Europe and the Pacific. It also survived the Depression and lean financial years when faculty could not count on salaries and buildings fell into disrepair. Despite facing these challenges, the college has never wavered from its mission to honor God by educating men and women to be servant leaders who positively impact the world for Christ. Thousands have studied at Milligan since those first days, and our cause remains as true and as important today as it was then.

As the years go by...

Proudly stands our alma mater Milligan College has made great strides toward excellence over the past decades. These advances, founded in our mission and fueled by the passion and commitment of thousands, have brought the college to a time of unparalleled opportunity. Now the college stands stronger than ever, motivated by a clear sense of purpose and a driving urgency. Over the past ten years, Milligan has grown by every measure, completing an historic capital campaign, expanding and enhancing the main academic area of campus, adding new programs that advance the college’s mission, and growing the enrollment to new heights.

Today, our mission remains vital and the world is calling out for Milligan to have an even greater impact. In order to meet this great need, it is imperative that we continue to grow. We believe that growth requires high-quality academic programs and faculty; attractive, modern, functional facilities; and dynamic, engaging campus life. As the college’s first steps towards its 150th anniversary in 2016, we are launching a new, comprehensive campaign to meet these needs. DON JEANES (’68), PRESIDENT

Our mission is about preparing the next generation of servant-leaders, and this campaign is about finding ways to better fulfill that mission, so we are asking for the active involvement of students. Students will serve alongside trustees, administrators and alumni on the various committees that will guide and direct our endeavors throughout this campaign. Their insight will be invaluable as we strive to enrich the student experience.

The Student Experience Milligan is preparing me to be a servant-leader by teaching me the importance of integrating my faith into everything I do, in all of my interactions with people. Being in nursing gives me a unique opportunity to serve others in a time of deep need; it is an amazing way for me to be the tangible hands of Jesus to them. The best thing about being a part of the Milligan community is knowing that I am walking alongside people who share my love for the Lord and my yearning to glorify Him in all areas of my life. We learn, talk, play, laugh, weep, love, and share life differently because of our common passion for Him. LESLIE BLOWERS Elizabethton, TN Major: Nursing

The Campaign for Milligan College excites me because it will help Milligan continue to grow and therefore influence more students who will in turn influence the world! It’s also exciting that they’re making changes to further encourage fellowship among students.

Through the Student Government Association I have been shown numerous times that the most effective leader is one who will lead not only by example, but from the trenches. From late night Taco Bell runs to a group of friends that gather once a week for the sole purpose of praying, this community is amazing and will, if you allow it, enable you to grow into a strong relationship with God. National Campaign Chairs It is most gratifying to look upon Milligan and see that the college has continued to grow, improve, and reach new levels. The significant accomplishments of the past several years have emboldened the college to become an even greater influence upon the world. Milligan provides an excellent education, nurtures a sense of Christian community, and challenges students to deepen their faith as they respond to God’s call for their lives. The consistent, generous support of alumni and friends has made it possible for Milligan to fulfill its mission to a greater degree than ever before. With your help, Milligan can build upon its rich heritage while looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. I hope you will join with me in making Milligan an even better, more powerful influence upon the world for Christ.

Marshall Leggett Aledo, Texas. Chancellor, 13th President of Milligan College, Class of 1951

I have often said that one’s college years are critical times when faith needs to be built up, not torn down. That’s what Milligan College did for me and what Milligan has done for thousands of students since I was a student. Christian Education is the hope of the world--we must preserve this ideal by supporting Christian education at all levels . I am proud of my alma mater and of the success Milligan has enjoyed over the years. I am also proud to see that Milligan continues to pursue excellence by constantly looking forward. That’s why I’m so eager to help Milligan succeed in its efforts to continue to grow and to serve. In virtually every field, whether it is business, healthcare, education, sports, or even the ministry, there continues to be a tremendous need for leaders who are rooted in Christian principles and who possess a strong sense of character and integrity. Meeting this need is what Milligan does best. Please join me in helping Milligan continue to move forward by supporting this campaign. Join me in providing the means for Milligan to serve future generations of students by perpetuating Milligan’s long history of high quality Christian education.
