I can remember when ALM started. I think there were eight or ten of us. Now, more than 350 donors have partnered with ALM to establish an endowment, provide scholarship funds for six young women to help them attend Milligan, and run the day-to-day operations of the Taylor/ Phillips House.
ALM scholarship endowment Milligan College is committed to preparing new generations of Christian women for roles of leadership and service in the church and in society. The ALM Scholarship Endowment is an important way for those who share this vision to join with the college to change lives and shape culture. It is our vision to build an endowment of at least $100,000. The income from this endowment will provide four scholarships annually to young women with leadership potential and financial need. developed wonderful friendships. Several people have asked if I plan to retire from ALM. The answer is no, because I am dedicated to raising monies so other young people can enjoy the Milligan experience. Plus, I would miss working with all of you! Lysa’s personal adventure of following God captured national media attention when she and her husband adopted two teenage boys from a war-torn orphanage in Liberia, Africa. They never imagined their decision would start a chain reaction within their community, which inspired other families to adopt over 45 children from the same orphanage! Lysa’s amazing story led to appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, The 700 Club, USA Today newspaper, Woman’s Day magazine, and Focus on the Family radio. Joining the effort “When Milligan launched its Christian executive MBA program in 2004, I knew it was a perfect program for me,” said Huffman.
Milligan alumna and adjunct professor, Patricia Huffman, is a new ALM member.
She graduated from Milligan with her MBA in 2005 and was asked to teach at the college upon graduation. Patricia is currently an adjunct professor of accounting and corporate finance. She also works full time for Media General as the regional controller for publishings in Southwest Virginia and Tennessee.
Patricia, who was recognized by Milligan as a Leader in Christian Service in 2008, decided to join ALM because of her passion for Milligan and its purpose to educate Christian servant leaders.
Patricia’s involvement with Milligan and ALM extends beyond the classroom. She has participated in the ALM-sponsored Homecoming 5k Run/2.5k Walk and has future plans to help with the event. She also plans to assist with the Ladies Conference on February 19.
“I had been reading about ALM and seeing all the wonderful things they were doing around campus,” said Huffman. “I just wanted to be a part and contribute to the organization.” Patricia, who is originally from the foothills of North Carolina, knew about Milligan many years before enrolling at the college. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), she was searching for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and decided that Milligan would be a good fit.

egg yolks heavy whipping cream vanilla extract
1/2 c. sugar Raspberries Fresh mint
Separate egg whites and put yolks into bowl. Add sugar to yolks. Whisk egg mixture until it becomes creamy. In saucepan, bring cream and vanilla to a boil. Pour cream while boiling over yolk mixture while mixing. Bring mixture back to stove and cook until thick. Make sure mixture does not boil. Pour into dishes. Finish for 10 minutes in oven at 300 degrees. Sprinkle sugar on top and brown under broiler. Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream, raspberries, and fresh mint.
