DECATUR’S UNIVERSITY
Our University is big on personality. The same goes for our city. Millikin is located in Decatur, Ill., with a population of approximately 70,000 residents. Our students don’t just live in Decatur; they get involved. Whether MU students work as interns at one of two area hospitals, attend a MillikinDecatur Symphony Orchestra concert or shop downtown, they embrace and engage the local communities.
TOP AREA EMPLOYERS » Archer Daniels Midland Co. » Decatur Memorial Hospital » Decatur Public Schools » Caterpillar Inc. » HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital » Tate & Lyle » Ameren Illinois » Mueller Co.
Downtown Decatur recently underwent a $14 million public development improvement to bring a new look, feel and energy to the city’s central business district. The downtown area includes many locally owned restaurants, specialty shops, art galleries and entertainment opportunities that Millikin students visit regularly.
Many area companies, organizations and nonprofits open their doors for MU students to engage in Performance Learning through internships.
Lake Decatur remains a popular destination for many in the community. With a 22-mile scenic lake frontage, its water recreation activities include swimming, water skiing/jet-skiing, paddleboarding and, of course, fishing. Decatur also has two award-winning golf courses, including Red Tail Run, a signature course designed by legendary PGA Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd.

Where Are We?
We're close in proximity to three of the largest job markets in the U.S. — Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis — and home to both Fortune 100 and small businesses alike.
Did You Know? Decatur was the original home of the Chicago Bears, from 1919 to 1920. The football team was then known as the Decatur Staleys and played at Staley Field, both named after the local food products manufacturer. Millikin’s President’s home was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s assistants Hermann V. von Holst and Marion Mahony.
