A note from the creator... I was blessed in my original collaborators on the film. Their vision and friendship was what made it possible for us to find enough truth to reach our lovely audience. I thank them all—for their commitment, their kindness and their talent. To my beloved Emile Ardolino, who I dare to hope is smiling on us, to David Chapman whose brilliance as a designer let us turn a low-budget movie into a world of radiance and glamour, and to my dear friend, Kenny Ortega. Kenny’s contribution went far beyond his electric and dynamic choreography. It was and is his spirit, his joy and passion for movement and the pursuit of joy—for dance as the defining point of happiness—that we have kept in our hearts and our spirits on our journey to the stage. Thank you, my beloved Kenny, thank you all. —Eleanor Bergstein MUSIC CREDITS BESAME MUCHO (Velasquez/Skylar). © Peer International Corp. A Spring of Performances, Shows and Culture in SLC

Utah Arts Festival

By Nick Como, Downtown Alliance Downtown Salt Lake’s shiny new gem of a theater, the Eccles Theater is the newest addition to a city ripe with cultural opportunities. It’s the largest such venue in the city, holding 2500 patrons. And if you love your experience at tonight’s Dirty Dancing performance, you will likely enjoy catching a show at one of several other venues downtown. Utah Arts Festival Happening this weekend! Hopefully you have included the Utah Arts Festival in your theater evening, but if not, the festival runs from Thursday June 22 - Sunday June 25 at Library Square (400 S and 200 E). Spread over two blocks, featuring venues presenting all major forms of artistic expression and culture with dynamic opportunities for shared experiences and hands-on participation in the arts. The Festival truly has something for everyone.

Now in its 41st year, the Festival features 160+ visual artists and 100+ performing arts groups. It’s a creative challenge to decide what to see and do across six performing stages of top world, national and local musicians and performers, plus program slates in literary arts, visual arts, kids activities, dance performances, musical commissions, street theater, art & technology, urban arts, film and culinary arts. You will want to visit more than once to see and do it all! Headliners this year include Shooter Jennings, Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra, featuring vocalist Andrea Miller and trumpeter Chuck Findley, RJD2 and Fruition.

Capitol Theatre

Piano Foundation, Plan-B Theatre Company, SB Dance, Repertory Dance Theatre, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company and Pygmalion Theater Company. At the Rose you can catch experimental, avantgarde dance, as well as modern or contemporary dance performances, plus socially conscious theater with a local point of view, internationally acclaimed pianists as well as performances that share the human experience through the eyes of women. Each night is something new and exciting, with a plethora of yearround performances. Most of the artists and performance groups have decade-long traditions in Utah, but the smaller (by comparison to Eccles Theater) spaces lend a more intimate feeling to their shows; especially in the black box theatre where the line between audience and production is nearly invisible. Any fan of art and culture owes himself at least one, or a dozen, visits to the Rose. Capitol Theatre The Capitol Theatre has been the focal point for touring Broadway shows and artistic performances in Utah since opening in 1913. Though Broadway shows have moved around

the corner to the Eccles, a recent remodel and joint space with the neighboring Jessie Eccles Quinney Ballet Centre ensure Utahns will be treated to outstanding shows at the Capitol for decades to come. Abravanel Hall Abravanel Hall is celebrated for its top-notch acoustics, as well as a Salt Lake architectural icon, most notably its grand four-story lobby with expansive views of the city. Abravanel is home to the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera, who are celebrating their 75th anniversary. The orchestra’s 85 full-time professional musicians perform over 175 concerts each season: one of the most ambitious schedules in the country.
