RIVERDANCE CAST & BAND THE RIVERDANCE IRISH DANCE TROUPE The Riverdance Irish Dance Troupe are world-class Irish dancers. They hail mostly from Ireland, but also from Britain, the United States, Canada and Australia. Between them the dancers can boast of hundreds of championships won in Ireland and abroad. Most started dancing at three or four years of age at local dance schools and progressed to world championship level before being chosen to perform in Riverdance. The dancers would have known and competed against each other at various competitions, including the World Championships. Riverdance has given them the opportunity to perform together for the first time in a non-competitive way. The grace and eloquence of their soft-shoe dance and the power and precision of their hardshoe routines clearly display the endless hours of practice and their dedication to the art of Irish Dance. his got us thinking how different downtown Salt Lake City was twenty years ago. And, just as strikingly, how different our city will be 20 years from now. There is much to be excited about, so we figured we would give you a “sneak peek” at some changes we hope to see over the next two decades in our city. Public Market If you’ve been to Seattle, even seen a movie, show or televised game set in Seattle, no doubt the Pike’s Place Public Market is an iconic image that makes its way into any program. While Salt Lake City’s version won’t feature salmon being tossed overhead, you should be able to find a mix of local products from vendors that make Salt Lake unique. Think of it as a year-round version of the Downtown

Farmers Market, with everything from fresh produce to baked goods, as well as prepared food. While this project is still about three years away, we expect it to be built on the west side, near the historic Rio Grande Depot. The Market will be a huge draw to that neighborhood for other businesses and additional housing. Exciting! Cultural Core Salt Lake City and Salt Lake Country have committed $500,000 a year for the next twenty years to create an art and culture district downtown. Think of a mix between New York’s Theater District, San Diego’s Gaslamp and San Antonio’s Riverwalk for what we hope to create here. Advertorial

The goal of SLC’s Cultural Core is to promote our existing performers, makers, creatives, as well as create new opportunities to experience art and culture across the city. Everything from street art to dance to community events and festivals will be included. Look for a major announcement this summer! Digital & Media Arts Center Twenty years ago the Salt Lake Public Library was housed in what is now The Leonardo. It took a community-wide investment to create the world-class current Library building, and surrounding Library Square, over the past two decades. Thinking forward, public and private leaders are aiming to build additional opportunities on the Library Square campus in the coming years. Working

with UMOCA, The Leonardo and Utah Film Center, a series of community and stakeholder meetings were held last year to identify priorities and for additional programming and activation of this block, as well as funding mechanisms. Housing For All One of the largest challenges our City is facing is housing. With population across the Wasatch Front expected to double over the next few decades, affordable housing, protections for individuals from eviction based on income level, as well as creating ways to promote affordable housing development without stifling market growth, are key initiatives of the Downtown Alliance.
