A CHRISTMAS STORY is set in the 1940s, and is based on a novel from 1971, that was made into a film in 1983, a play in 2000, and a musical that premiered on Broadway in 2012 . If nothing else, it speaks to the longevity of a good story with a happy ending . In this case, I think it also speaks to the comfort of seeing a familiar story that depicts a family maybe not too different from our own, in instantly recognizable circumstances .

As we rush through the holiday season, as kids make their holiday wishlists, and as parents try their very best to make the holidays special, it might just bring a smile to your lips to see another family from a time-gone-by going through the same stresses . At the end of the day, this nostalgic story of a family that listens and cares for one another (just a little better than they appear to) is the best gift I can share with you .

As always, thank you for supporting live theatre . Thank you for making PTC part of your family’s holiday season . Let us all have a happy and healthy New Year .

Play

Five people straddling two countries and several cultures choose between breaking the law and saving themselves, while trying desperately to understand one another.

A World Premiere in Association with TheatreWorks Silicon Valley. A sleepy library that strategically straddles the U.S. and Canadian borders becomes an unlikely crucible for five people from around the world when families separated by the “Muslim ban” begin using the library as an unlikely meeting place. A finalist for the 2020 National Showcase of New Plays and the winner of the Next Act! New Play Summit, Fahmy’s likeable characters make thoughtful choices that are best for their specific situations but which in turn cause turmoil and challenges for each other. Alliances are built and broken, borders are straddled, but love and human connection prevail. Contains strong language.
