MILWAUKEE INSTITUTE
OF ART & DESIGN, JULY 14-25, JULY 14-AUG. 1
For the burgeoning young creative, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design’s Summer Pre-College Program offers high schoolers an opportunity to immerse themselves in a college-level curriculum, build their portfolio and explore visual mediums.
Students can enroll in two core curriculum classes, including options in figure drawing, illustration, graphic design, painting, comics, photography and others. For more advanced students, classes like animation, sculpture, fashion design and graphic design will create a focused body of work that lays the foundation for a personal portfolio. The summer program concludes with an exhibition at a MIAD gallery.
“I’ve learned about new things to put in a portfolio instead of just some sort of normal, average thing,” says Raina, who took the Advanced Storytelling the Truth course last summer. “Things that can make my portfolio stand out that some people probably wouldn’t think about.”
Last summer, MIAD had record-breaking enrollment, with over 250 students enrolling from across the country. This year’s registration is open until May 1; scholarships are available. bit.ly/miadsum ◆
