COMPETITOR HEAD TO HEAD Roger Bisby pits the M18CPD-402C Fuel™ combi drill against the competition on a number of run time tests

INTRODUCTION Roger takes the leading brands of 18 volt Li-Ion cordless combi drills and puts them through identical tasks to determine not only which drill is the best all rounder but which drill is best at specific jobs. It is intended to give professional tradesmen/women a guide to which drill is most suitable for their type of work.

“ Milwaukee® was the outright winner proving it to be the best all rounder.”

We selected jobs that are typically carried out by jobbing builders, plumbers and electricians. Our test figures clearly show that the older style external brushed motors perform less well than the new brushless motors which have a greater output from the same voltage. As expected the lower amp hour batteries have shorter run times which inevitably means they need more charges and therefore have a shorter life. Once a pattern began to emerge we were able to eliminate the lower performers from the later tests.

TEST CONTINUED The Milwaukee® drill was the winner when drilling a 25mm flat bit through worktop. The fact that the flat bit took some punishment in the laminate meant that it struggled through the later holes due to the extremely blunt bit so the last holes in the test have a much greater value than the first holes. This drill was the only one to complete the drilling of the 25mm auger bit through 150mm of softwood. Every other drill stalled on this test. We liked the way the side handle clamped to the metal gear box to avoid any twist in the body.

& REMINISCES ON ITS FIRST YEAR SUCCESS AS BEING THE MAIN TEAM SPONSOR October 20th capped the end to a fantastic first year for Milwaukee® sponsoring the Milwaukee® Yamaha Superbike team. April saw the bike season commence with Milwaukee® embarking on a journey that contained plenty more highs than lows throughout. With a sport that reaches 14 million terrestrial and satellite viewers annually and has over 50,000 spectators at each event the brand exposure that has been generated for Milwaukee® has been exceptional. It’s one thing sponsoring a bike team that competes in the British Superbike championship and international road series, but to be a sponsor of a successful team that won races

The sponsorship ultimately has opened lots of doors and has allowed Milwaukee® to invite many of its customers and suppliers to the race events who each sampled the fantastic atmosphere and had an experience to remember. With Milwaukee® being the main team sponsor we have had the benefit of having access to Milwaukee® Yamaha’s very impressive state of the art VIP hospitality area all year. Milwaukee® customers could therefore sit in comfort, be wined and dined and meet the riders and the team in between races. As well as the UK Milwaukee® team benefiting greatly by the sponsorship this year one of the BSB rounds took place at the Assen Circuit in the Netherlands in September.

and had plenty of podiums in both codes has exceeded all expectations for Milwaukee® this year. The BSB season consists of 12 separate race rounds and Milwaukee® Yamaha celebrated 12 podiums with three of these race wins. Milwaukee® Yamaha added to this BSB glory with another four podiums in the three road races it took part in with a first place at the Ulster Grandprix in August. Milwaukee® Yamaha may have not won the BSB Championship this year but to have a rider finish in the top four overall is a fantastic achievement. With having one of the fastest bikes in the paddock and a very strong rider line up for 2014 we are confident of even more success for next year.

The Milwaukee® Benelux team presented at the Assen event the Milwaukee® Spiderdome to showcase our products to nearly 100,000 spectators over the course of the weekend. Although a UK bike championship it has been great that our European neighbours have been able to use the sponsorship to good effect.

Regions like France and Italy are now leveraging the sponsorship in their countries by using replica race bikes as competitions for end users or ordering team clothing to giveaway as part of promotions. The race bikes have also been great to use at exhibitions and the French team showcased the bikes at the very well-known Batimat exhibition in Paris in November. The ultimate aim of Milwaukee® undergoing the sponsorship of the bike team has been to raise brand awareness outside our traditional trade channels where we are not so well known yet. Over the course of the season we have found that more and more of the “general public” now know who Milwaukee® are.

The bike sponsorship has certainly helped to put us in the public eye and the social media following we are now seeing as a result is allowing Milwaukee® to spread the net further and further afar. This trend is only going to continue and the successful marriage between Milwaukee® Yamaha and Milwaukee® will bear even more fruits in 2014 that’s for sure. Let’s hope to see more of you at the 2014 events cheering Milwaukee® Yamaha on! Page 22
