Affordable, educational, and engaging musical experiences for young people.
MSO CONCERTS FOR SCHOOLS are on
weekdays for grades K–12, featuring great works of the vast symphonic repertoire performed by the professional musicians of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Concert narration, preparation materials, and classroom visits by Forte Volunteer League docents give students the knowledge needed to grasp the music in greater depth. By understanding works in context, students develop a lifelong desire to hear orchestral music and a personal connection to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

YOUTH SERIES
A special program that is “ just right” for the MSO’s youngest listeners. Designed for students in grades K4–second grade, these concerts introduce them to the symphony orchestra and the expressive capabilities of music.
Designed for grades 3–8, the acclaimed MSO Youth Series uses orchestral masterworks to inspire students, promote active listening, and encourage critical thinking. These concerts align with state and national standards for music education, as well as connect to multiple subjects and disciplines.
LINK UP The Milwaukee Symphony partners with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute to bring the Link Up program to our community. Link Up pairs orchestras across the country with students in grades 3–5 at schools in their local communities to explore orchestra repertoire through a year-long hands-on music curriculum. Students sing, play recorder or violin, compose, and perform in a culminating concert.

TEEN CONCERT This concert is specifically curated for middle and high school audiences and features the Teen Choral Partners, select high school choirs from around the state of Wisconsin, who perform a choral masterwork with the Milwaukee Symphony. Each student receives his or her own Teen Guide created for this concert.

Specifically designed for children ages 3–10 and their families, Milwaukee Symphony weekend afternoon FAMILY CONCERTS are engaging performances selected to delight the senses and trigger the imagination. Attendees also have access to preconcert activities. Before each concert, curious concertgoers visit the instrument petting zoo, meet special guests, compose their own music, learn to conduct an orchestra, and make crafts with amazing community partners.

Arts in Community Education (ACE)
For nearly 30 years, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s ARTS IN COMMUNITY EDUCATION (ACE) program has
been an educational partnership with the goal of advancing a child’s overall learning and development through daily integration of the arts throughout the school curriculum. ACE’s goals are achieved through a comprehensive series of culturally diverse, cross-curricular arts experiences for students, teachers and families, beginning in kindergarten and moving through each grade level. Although ACE is rooted in music, it supports and provides access to all of the fine arts through universal concepts.
Every child is a masterpiece.

THE ACE PROGRAM IS GUIDED BY THE FOLLOWING EDUCATIONAL AND ARTISTIC AIMS: • To facilitate and enhance ownership of learning through independent and collaborative activity • To develop critical thinking skills through framing problems, investigating and proposing solutions, and evaluating and refining those solutions • To develop awareness and respect of multiple ways of knowing and understanding the world through auditory, visual, verbal and kinesthetic means • To encourage lifelong learning by facilitating schools in being a model community of lifelong learners • To nurture sensitivity to art and beauty by encouraging aesthetic and artistic qualities

“Through participation in the ACE program, we have been able to see our students grow as individuals and creative thinkers. It seems to us our students have become more independent in planning and performing creative projects, and we have the ACE program to thank for that.” –Heather Cheslock, Music teacher, Woodside School AC E

Annually, high school choirs from all over Wisconsin are selected to participate in the MSO’s TEEN CHORAL PARTNERS program, in which they sing a major choral masterwork with the orchestra for an educational concert. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity helps choral students grow as musicians and is often their first introduction to the Orchestra.

The AUDREY G. BAIRD STARS OF TOMORROW
auditions and concert has been identifying and encouraging young musicians from the state of Wisconsin for half a century. Each year, three students are selected to receive scholarships and perform as soloists with the orchestra through a rigorous audition process. Additionally, over thirty finalists and honorable mentions are invited to perform a major orchestral masterwork side-by-side with musicians of the Orchestra, furthering their musical training as well.

MSO to Go
The Milwaukee Symphony takes music to places in the
community where most people might not get to hear a live orchestra. Giving several full-orchestra performances each season in nursing homes, community centers, hospitals and more, the MSO brings the joy of music to those who are unable to hear the Orchestra in the Marcus Center.

Lullaby Project
Some of the earliest sounds from our childhood stay with
us and have a profound impact on the rest of our lives. Through the LULLABY PROJECT, created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, pregnant women and new mothers are invited to create and record personal lullabies for their babies with the help of professional musicians. Creating, singing and sharing lullabies promotes maternal health, child development, and parent-child attachment. Through music, everyone invited into the lullaby community has an opportunity to look at themselves, their babies, and the world around them from a different perspective.
