Designed for grades 3 through 8, the acclaimed Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Youth Series uses orchestral masterworks to inspire students, promote active listening, and encourage critical thinking. Concerts align with state and national standards for music education, as well as connect to multiple subjects and disciplines. Make the most of your Youth Series field trip day. To celebrate, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra performs pieces of the composer’s greatest hits. You will recognize Beethoven’s triumphant Eroica, the peaceful Pastoral, the incredible Symphony No. 9, the unforgettable (dum-dum-dum-DUM) Symphony No. 5, and more. In an extra birthday surprise, you may even spot the legendary Beethoven on stage. *MAM tours not available January 29.

Link Up pairs orchestras across the country with students in grades 3-5 at schools in their local communities to explore orchestral repertoire through a year-long hands-on music curriculum.

Cabaniss “Ode to Joy” Traditional “Simple Gifts” Copland “I Bought Me a Cat” Tom Cabaniss “To Make Words Sing” Papoulis “Oye” The Milwaukee Symphony partners with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute to bring the Link Up program to our community. Melody is a universal element of music. Composers and musicians create melodies, which can be sung or played on instruments. Through the Link Up repertoire, students explore the ways composers and musicians use melodies to “sing” in this culminating concert with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. This concert will feature the 2019 Audrey G. Baird Stars of Tomorrow Competition Winner. *MAM tours not available for Link Up.

Mozart) Toy Symphony Grieg Holberg Suite, first movement Prokofiev Peter and the Wolf The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra welcomes back Really Inventive Stuff, vaudevilleinspired storytellers for orchestras — this imaginative group uses comedy, props and interaction to refresh beloved musical classics and enchant audiences of all ages. In Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, the composer uses an adventure of a young boy, a cat, a duck, a wolf and more to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra. This fun program begins with the quirky Toy Symphony, which includes noisemakers, kazoos and other toy instruments as part of the orchestra.

Docents In conjunction with Forte, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Volunteer League, the MSO offers free docent visits leading up to the Youth and Music for Me! concerts. Our docents are passionate about the orchestra, and trained by the area’s finest music educators. Docents arrange a time to visit your school, bringing fun activities and lessons corresponding to the performance. For more information, email edu@mso.org.
Teen Concerts The Teen Choral Partners Concert will take a one year hiatus for the 2019.20 season. We look forward to its return in 2020.21 in our beautiful new hall with our new Music Director Ken-David Masur conducting! ACE Program The nationally acclaimed ACE (Arts in Community Education) Program is entering its 30th season of enhancing students’ education through the integration of music and art into the regular school curriculum. Our ACE partner schools receive multiple in-school visits from Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra musicians and other professional artists from Milwaukee and beyond. Also part of the ACE program are special MSO concerts, PD sessions and arts integration resources — for little more than the cost of most field trips. Educational materials
Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Teacher Resource Guides provide background information about the music and composers, and lesson plans in a full-color, digital format. Lesson plans support Common Core and Wisconsin State Standards in music, English language arts, and other subject areas. Access to the Naxos Digital Library will be provided for each concert. A $3 processing fee will be charged to help cover the cost of materials.
