A B O U T T H E M I LW A U K E E S Y M P H O N Y O R C H E S T R A The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Ken-David Masur, is among the finest orchestras in the nation. Since its inception in 1959, the MSO has found innovative ways to give music a home in the region, develop music appreciation and talent among area youth, and raise the national reputation of Milwaukee. The MSO’s full-time professional musicians perform more than 135 classics, pops, family, education, and community concerts each season in venues throughout the state. This season, the MSO celebrated the grand opening of the Bradley Symphony Center and Allen-Bradley Hall. This historic building, which was restored and renovated into a state-of-the-art concert venue, is the permanent home of the MSO. A pioneer among American orchestras, the MSO has performed world and American premieres of works by John Adams, Roberto Sierra, Phillip Glass, Geoffrey Gordon, Marc Neikrug, and Matthias Pintscher. Beginning in 1971, the orchestra’s nationally syndicated radio broadcast series, the longest consecutive-running series of any U.S. orchestra, is heard annually by more than two million listeners on 147 subscriber stations in 38 of the top 100 markets. The MSO reaches more than 40,000 children and their families through its Arts in Community Education (ACE) program, Youth and Teen concerts, Family Series, and Meet the Music pre-concert talks. Celebrating its 32nd year, the nationally-recognized ACE program integrates arts education across all subjects and disciplines, providing opportunities for students when budget cuts may eliminate arts programming. This season, more than 5,800 students and 500 teachers and faculty participated in ACE both in person and in a virtual format. .

ABOUT THE LULL ABY PROJEC T The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra is pleased to be one of over 30 organizations across the country and the world to be a Lullaby Project partner, a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. Pregnant women, parents, and grandparents work with professional teaching artists to write personal lullabies for their children, supporting parental health, aiding child development, and strengthening the bond between parent and child. The lullabies are then professionally arranged, recorded, and finally shared in a public performance featuring professional musicians and the parents themselves. The MSO is delighted to partner with Sojourner Family Peace Center to bring this program to Milwaukee.

A Lullaby for Legend

By Canyra with Meaghan Heinrich It was a short time, but we had a close bond My pride, my joy, my sunshine You’re the one I’d do everything for Legend, I miss you My playful, cheerful, happy boy You would move to let me know you were there Great-Grandma hand-picked you, She’s taking care of you now Legend, I miss you “Legend, I’m in a dark place.” “I’m here, don’t let him break you.” “Legend, I’m in a dark place.” “I’m here, don’t let him break you.” You’re the one who made me stand up You’re the one who finally made me strong I’ve been struggling with this for a long time I never wanted to do such a thing I’ll always be your Mom, will you forgive me still? Legend, I miss you

House on the Moon

By Rich with John Tanner Maybe you think that a kid just has fun. Well, that isn’t so and I know ‘cause I’m one. There’s lessons, and school, and housework to be done. Like that’s not enough? There’s other stuff. So I said to my dad: There are times when I feel bad. All alone, or scared, or sad. I wish I knew what I should do. Or, somewhere I could think things through. Dad reached out and took my hand, Smiled and said, “I understand. Everybody needs a place, that’s true. I’ve made one for you.” CHORUS

I’ve got a house on the moon, my dad built for me. Guess how much fun you can have When you bounce around with hardly any gravity! And all the stars in the sky shine both night and day. I’m not kiddin’ it’s where we’re livin’. My fav’rite place to stay. You can kick a ball all the way to a star. You can drive around in a big moon car. But, you’ll be happy that you came When you play our favorite game. We hide a penny in every other crater. And we tell our friends, “Hey guys we’ll see you later.” When they find the penny we jump up and say, “Today’s your lucky day!”

CHORUS

Maybe you’re thinkin’, “Hey this can’t be true. A house on the moon? No, that never would do! A house can’t be built of just moon rocks and dust.” And you’re right. ‘Cause my Dad taught me you also need An open heart and all your trust. CHORUS

I’ve got a house on the moon, my dad built for me. Guess how much fun you can have When you bounce around with hardly any gravity! So I’m inviting you all please come visit soon. Say the word and as soon as I’ve heard, We’ll build you a room!

Mi debilidad y fuerza (My strength and weakness)

Translation God gave me the biggest gift I never could imagine. I wish you would have come sooner. I never thought I would experience all this love. My strength and weakness. My beautiful and kind angel. I hope as the years pass our bond stays the same, And we don’t become estranged. My heart would not take it, no. That’s a wound that would never heal. And that’s why I entrust you and ask you for love. I hope that, as the years go by, You always measure every step you take, And remember I’ll always guide you, But do not forget He who watches and cares for you above. And when I see you practicing, Everything I’ve taught you, Your sense of right principles and noble heart amazes me. If I had the chance to choose, I would choose you all over again. I already gave you my life, never leave here. My strength and weakness. My beautiful and kind angel. I hope as the years pass our bond stays the same, And we don’t become estranged. My heart would not take it, no. That’s a wound that would never heal. And that’s why I entrust you and ask you for love. I hope as the years pass our bond stays the same, And we don’t become estranged. My heart would not take it, no. That’s a wound that would never heal. And that’s why I entrust you and ask you for love. I understand that angels are borrowed, But my hands will always guide you, I will be here for you unconditionally for eternity.

Trophy in the Attic

By Julie with Eric Segnitz A famous Irish dancer, she once told me a tale About a land where all your dreams come true and mysteries unveil So if you two can stay awake, and believe in magic things Faith can take the first step, and see what nighttime brings Where Chet, he jumps the hedges and Laura Ingalls rules Monkey-Monk and Pinky, they sing all the way to school Josie rides a skateboard and Rosie’s on patrol Stephie plays air clarinet, and Nick’s two-armed hugs do enfold Somewhere in your heart of hearts, golden wigs and trophies glow Somewhere in your memories, rivers flow with cookie dough The clouds arrive, the land grows dark, the mysteries won’t reveal But then I hear an Irish tune, could it all be real? At midnight comes the magic hour There’s music in the air Could it be Azagaba? Will Mashka still be there? Searching for the trophy You climb the attic stair Welcome to the land of love You will find me there You’re searching for the trophy You climb the attic stair Welcome to the land of love You will find me there And you will find me there

Quiet Space and Time

By Tracy with Beth Giacobassi CHORUS

Quiet space and time Is what we need to heal. Mend our hearts, Restore our souls, Renew our hope for peace. One day all seemed normal, The next day it was gone. It’s time to break the cycle, Together we’ll be strong.

CHORUS

I’m lost and overwhelmed, Confused but caring too. These lows in life can test us, Then recognize the good. I hope I’ll find my purpose, Improve relationships. Maybe go to college, Find hope and happiness. CHORUS

It’s hard to see the future With so much daily stress, My friends and fam’ly support me, My Mimi is the best. I hope to be a tradesman, Go on adventures too, Become more independent, With mom we’ll see this through.

I know that in the future, We will all feel strong. I hope you know inside you, You’ve done nothing wrong. I know you’ll find your way To a life of love and grace. Reaching out to others Who’ve shared this same dark place.

CHORUS CHORUS

I am a good person Smart and musical. Becoming independent, Learn to trust myself. I try to do the right thing, Stay calm and centered too. Show my true self to others, It’s really hard to do.

Quiet space and time, Together we belong.
